Where do babies come from?

During my tour of duty as a substitute teacher, a 5th-grader asked "Can a girl and a girl have a baby?"

For the record, I thought about explaining the business with nucleus replacement and artificial insemination and all that, but decided that it probably wouldn't be understood and just said "No."

A few years before that, my freshman year of college, I randomly quoted that Family Guy bit "Our special report on the clitoris, nature's Rubik's Cube" and my resident adviser (a senior) looked at me funny and asked "What's a clitoris?"

Seks edyookaysun? UR DOIN IT RONG!

I don't want to be "that guy", but that wasn't a question.

It's supposed to be a stupid question

Also, it's technically true, in the same way I can't disprove the Flying Spaghetti Monster. (Look it up.)
aaah, that spaghetti monster pic made me laugh for a while :)

all hail the flying spaghetti monster!

What universe are you from? It sounds very different compared to the one im from where these two are the ones that revieve the MOST flak. Especially scientology, described by the times as being a power hungry greedy cult. Seriously where did you get these ideas from?! WHERE DO YOU LIVE?! Everyone always bashes these religions all the time. One of them isnt even a religion.

Cant we just mildly dislike every religion a little? Except buddism. No extremist buddists. Ever. NO buddest has ever tried to make anyone else a buddist by force or enforce his rules on other people. Yay for buddism.

I hate that one above all else.
Thats more of a good question than a stupid one. I've yet to here a good answer however.
It's stupid because I hear it constantly. It gets to the point where I just ignore it.
The answer is very personal to each person, and for me would take way too long to explain. The short version is a lot of things have happened in my life that I know God is there for me.
I don't care why you don't. Don't tell me. It's your opinion. And I'm seriously tired of hearing people say "LOL YOU'RE DUMB FOR BELIEVING IN GOD DERP"
I know that YOU may not say it, but that doesn't stop a lot of fucking people from saying it.

Stupid =/= repetitive, and neither does it vice versa. You already answered the question succinctly, as you said this:

The short version is a lot of things have happened in my life that I know God is there for me.

"Are those real glasses?"

I wonder, I mean they don't say 3D on the side like yours.

Makes me wonder if others just assume they're fake and I wear them everyday because I think I'm cool.

4. A foetus is not an independent life-form. It cannot survive without the mother, therefore it is dependent. The person it is dependent on should decide what to do with it.

I couldn't give a flying f%@* if I insult Christianity. What are they going to do? Murder is a sin, is it not?
A child is dependent on the mother. Does that mean we can kill babies?
I worded it slightly wrong. A born child is an independent form of life. It is not part of anything or anyone else. A foetus is, and the person it is dependent on should be given the choice about whether to keep it or not. It's all about personal freedoms, especially for victims of rape.
So no baby killing then? pity.

But anyway, rape aside, abortion seems a bit extreme. What about the babies life? What about his choice?
One could argue that as the foetus is not self-aware, it doesn't have the capacity to make choices. Also, it is the mother who must endure childbirth and then support the child, so it should fall to her.
So when does it become self aware? Does it suddenly just become self aware?
Nothing i can say about the childbirth but there is always adoption.
When a child develops the ability to make an informed decision.

Example: putting the square peg through the square hole because you know the two shapes are the same.
So i can kill people if they don't pass very simple tests. So for at least a few mouths after birth i can kill babies. If some one gets brain damage I can kill them. If someone is reaaalllly drunk or tired I can kill them.
Unfortunately, thats called murder. It's illegal.

If someone is drunk they are still self-aware. They simply have no control. Tired people are also still self-aware until they fall asleep and can make simple decisions, but need to spend longer doing so.
The moment you chose to have sex you consented to the possibility of conception, and therefore through your own action should be held accountable for the results. Claiming a human person is not a human person if they are not able to pass state defined tests is simply a ridiculous and ludicrous proposition that is still just as ridiculous as when Peter Singer proposed it. Well a person may not be morally responsible until they are fully aware, that does not make them any less of a person when they are not fully aware, a baby is a person, and it will develop into a fully self aware human-person, and by preventing that you are murdering that person. Because they will be a person they ARE a person, from the moment of conception and abortion is nothing but murder in any case except where the mother's life is in mortal danger from having this child.

regardless of its dependency the moment you put yourself in a position to become a parent you became responsible for the out come of that act.

a little bit of a more secular argument might be more persuasive i thought.

'If you hold a fish underwater, will it drown?'.

I was asked this a few days ago. At work. By a 22 year old.

Once I'd got over the intial 'whu....?' and managed to stop laughing, I ended up having to convince him (along with another co-worker) that fishes, oddly enough, quite like the whole 'underwater' thing.
Uhm...
If you hold a fish underwater, they do drown. They need to be moving to filter the oxygen out of the water. (Dependant on the fish - some can filter while still) It's not about the water, it's about the holding.
Pulling most fish backwards through water will drown it though.(Technically it's actually asphyxiation, but air acts as a fluid in some situations, so it still holds)

Well, when it's the same people, like the same person every week asking that, it sort of blurs the lines for me. But I get what you are saying.
The short version as well isn't enough for some people as well. They must know what happened, when either it's none of their business, or they just wouldn't care. I'm trying to say that the answer doesn't matter to them, the question "Why do you believe in God?" usually translates to, "You're a fucking idiot" and I'm getting tired of it.

"You're left-handed?"
"Is it hard to write left-handed?"
"Doesn't it hurt that you write left-handed?"
"Since you write left-handed, that means you're like, super creative right?"
"That's so gross! How do you write left-handed!"

"Are you half-black?"

People need to learn that you don't have to be black to have an afro. It's called poofy, curly hair. The sad thing is, I get asked this several times a week.
