Wait till Portal 2 comes out; my theory is that it should pave the way for the whole Aperture Science Borealis thing in ep 3.
Since Portal 2 is set a hundred years into the future after EP3 ends, I bet that the events of Episode 3 will be referenced, even though we never played it, and never heard from again.

The biggest dick slam in Valve history since they let Gearbox lock up Adrien Shepard.
They actually said that Portal 2 takes place a hundred years in the future? That right there kinda spoils alot of possibilities they will take in Episode 3's plot structure.

Honestly, I think Valve has pretty much abandoned the Half Life series. Either that, or they're gonna deliberately ignore it until they've gone through all their franchises, which also includes delaying it as well.

I get pretty tired of the gaming community sticking up for Valve as well because of their delays. Yeah, they make good games and yeah, they are very loyal to their fanbase, but I have a feeling Valve doesn't just delay their games to make "improvements".

No, as much as I love Half-Life. I've learned not to wait for Episode 3. Portal 2's been delayed until next fall already, and there isn't a soul on earth who's breathed a word about Episode 3. It's been three long, sad years of pointless hats.
Is April now in the fall?
It is if you live in the southern hemisphere. Although we call it Autumn here.

OT: I have only just recently played HL2 and Ep1 and Ep2, so I haven't been waiting for it that long. But I really want this game to come along soon.

with everything the half-life series are doing to physics some time travel back and forth is not really that far off.

Dude, it's the VGAs. Valve isn't going to announce one of the most highly anticipated games of all time to a bunch of half-idiots and culture analysis studiers (one of those people in the last category being me).
But its somewhere where you can announce The Next Elder Scrolls Game which is Bigger than Half-Life I have to admit.
The highlighted part is the whole point. Elder Scrolls IS bigger than Half-Life in terms of mainstream popularity. Half-Life is more of a nerd-core series, while Elder Scrolls is more of a anyone-with-a-console-probably-has-it series.

Unless Chell somehow rips open the time stream by doing something with the portal gun that launches her into the Half-Life time zone just in time for Alyx and Gordon to find her. That's how Portal 2 should in, and if it does, I suppose it will make up for the delay. Honestly though, I don't expect to hear anything about Half-Life until Portal 2 is out, and we're seeing how long that's taking.

Don't you know why they're delaying it? Gabe Newell eats the angry comments of Half Life fans.

In all seriousness I'm sure they'll get around to it one of these days, when you think about it there are seven games tied to the half life series (yes, Decay counts), four of which were developed by Valve...maybe they just want to work a bit on their other awesome franchises. Then again I've honestly never much cared for the hype, the reason's a bit embarassing but...well, despite being a major Valve fan I have yet to beat Episode 2. Wait wait wait, before you scream noob this is on the xbox 360 and I've tried many times to beat it, I've even gone through various walkthroughs yet it's just too hard!

TOtally agree, and I didn't even play Ep. 1 or 2.

I, quite honestly, don't care if Half-Life Episode 3 is ever announced or released. It's been far too long, and I was never a huge Half-Life fan to begin with. Seriously though, it's been too long.
Tell that to Duke Nukem.

I have just given up. You should too. Its never coming. And if it does, well what a plesant surprise it would be. It's a better method than killing yourself waiting. (This is how I handling waiting for things to be shipped)

It'll be released when it's done. Man, what is it with gamers and this weird sense of entitlement they seem to have? You'd think they were Valve shareholders or something.

Very good, this to the extreme, I don't really get the complaints that 'it's been too long'. What, you assume that Valve works on your schedule? I've already posted on other Episode 3 threads about how gamers are a self-entitled lot, so I won't repost that here. So you have to wait...so what? It's not like this is major life-changing experience or anything. Games are a hobby, not a lifestyle, and if you can't be patient for things then you really don't deserve them.

Seriously people, a watched pot does not boil. I've been waiting for System Shock 3 for years, and I'll probably be waiting plenty more. And you know what? I'm good with that.

Yeah, but Episode 3 isn't really a new game. It was, afaik, a finale in the 3-part "episode" continuations for the same canon. So basically glorified DLC or expansion packs.

If you're not going to release a continuation to a story in a timely manner, then people will just stop caring.

It would be different if it was Half-Life 3 we're all waiting for, but it's not, it's Half-Life 2 "Episode 3", so it's a little silly, imo. I'm saying it's been too long for me to care about the same game, basically.

I don't really care about Half-life anymore. TF2 is still going strong, they should get really good with the FPS ropes by screwing around with that before they attempt anything else. Preferably, I'd like a new franchise. Everything has to die eventually.

They said that Half-life 3 was the 3 episodes all together.

Also anyone heard the "Valve Vs. Real Time" thing where Valve's estimate of time is largely unrelated to real time?

my dear boy...HL2 ep3 is but a myth; a myth designed by valve to keep their fans enthralled while they keep screwing around with zombie coop games.

if i were a duke nukem fan, episode 3 is my DNF; i long time ago i cared, but so much time has past that ive long since moved on. i recommend you just give up; there are plenty of other games out there, take your pick.

EDIT: for those interested, a breakdown of gabe newell's perception of time: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time

I have absolutely no idea what the Elder Scroll series is about or looks like. I've heard the name before, but I don't remember ever seen a screen or video. I'll go look it up.

Oh, so Oblivion is a part of it. I've heard and seen Oblivion before, but I've never played it. I guess I understand why I always think of Oblivion subconsciously when anyone says it. Not sure what you mean by nerd-core then. Considering Elder Scrolls is an RPG with elves and such, it seems to at least sound more nerdy (by nerd "definition" standards). Not that I'd be against playing it. I just don't think your term "nerd-core" is really relevant whatsoever. Probably meant to just offend.

Episode 2 was longer than most single player games (especially shooters) these days. I can see Episode 3 coming out after 4-5 years of development and being closer to Half-life 2 in length. Actually, it'll probably just be called Half-Life 3. People have been discussing if Portal 2 has anything to do with Episode 3 in terms of story or physics. Personally, I think Portal 2 is partially a test for updating the Source engine.

you thought valve would make the big reveal at the spike VGAs?

you know there would be some "leaked" information first then little hints here and there. THEN BOOM! out of no where we would be told its coming out in a month(but we all know what that means)
