Why does everyone seem to want ninjas and world wars 1 or 2? Those are absolutely terrible ideas that have been done to death.

I personally don't think a female ancestor would be a good idea either, disregarding the whole Lara Croft ripoff thing it would look a bit odd if they made her face look like Desmond's as they had done with Altair and Ezio.

I wouldn't call them terrible ideas. They are overdone though. Then again, if you're speaking strictly AC...then yes. Ninja's or WWI & II would be lame.

I can't see the near future setting being anywhere near as breathtaking.
On the contrary, if you think of what there could be in the future that would seem appealing, rather than only those appealing to you from the past, then you might be more interested in such a subject for AC3. Some examples can include huge futuristic laser-based weapons, mega-skyscrapers you can't see the ground from, and:

Yeah, but that's not really the appeal to me. I like the outdoors, old fashioned environments not so much the weaponry. If every building is a skyscraper, how can you quickly scramble up a building and escape? How can you jump off a roof and assasinate someone upon landing? I just don't like the idea of how a futuristic assasins creed would play, I very much like visiting historicially significant places and killing people.

SSSSPPPPAAACCCCCEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not really. Futuristic Orwellian totalitarian state, where the Templars have assumed control over mankind. This crazy place would be called Eden. The story of how Desmond failed would be told through flashbacks- OR -The game alternates between Desmond's search for the pieces of Eden and *insert awesome protagonist name*'s race against time to save the woorrrllldd!!!!!!!

The way I see it, Desmond's family has to keep gradually moving West. He does end up living in the US, so either it will not be in the Animus or it will be in Europe. I'm hoping that they wrap it up and leave it at that, without marketing off the rights and making a mockery of it. Then I can say that Assassin's Creed was the best franchise ever.

EDIT: And if they do go to Desmond's misadventures for ACIII, I really doubt that they'll be able to set it in a mega metropolis as we seem so sure they will. It really wouldn't work, they'd have to set it in a bunch of smaller, more suburban areas so that rooftops would work. In that place, it would be amazing.

I think its going to be in the present, with more of a focus on melee than guns. I reckon theyre going to do a silenced pistol hidden blade .

Large spoilers in this post :)

So basically I would like to see it set in another interesting part of history. Roman empire would be awesome, so would fuedal japan. Of course Screed 2 was supposed to be set in Revolutionary France...now thats an idea :)
I concur. Although it seems likely that the next game would be set in the present day/near future, it would be great if AC3 was set at another time in history, seeing that the settings are easily one of the main attractions to the AC games. I've being trying to work out when the Desmond sections of the game are actually set (seeing that we don't ever really see the outside world in those parts of the game). Going by The Truth puzzles and the video that subject 16 left behind:

It would likely have to be sometime after 2008. Given that in one of the truth sgements, we hear subject 16 questioning whether an event happened in 1908 or 2008 (or 1808?) it seems likely 2008 was roundabout the time he was held by Abstergo. The completed Truth video is a strange one though. The man and the woman in the video are referred to as Adam and Eve, but given the supermodern look of the building they scale, it seems unlikely for those events to have occured near the beginning of time. Though maybe it will fit in with the advanced pre-civilisation idea that is going around.

I wouldn't even know where to start guessing with regards to a setting for AC3, as I certainly never expected 15th/16th century Italy for AC2. If they did go for the present, it would be interesting to see how they could manage to transplant the free-running style aspects into a modern city setting. Here's also hoping the bleeding effect also stops Desmond from looking like an utter twat when he runs.

Victorian England, during the Napoleonic wars, or the present day. I might be able to see one in feudal Japan, but please please PLEASE not another WW2 game.

Wasn't it hinted at the end of AC2 that they would go to the future now? I still haven't played it yet, so I have yet to find out.

But as far as where it should go, well, I think either one of the Americas or Japan. All that seems left other than that is Africa and Australia, and those don't seem to fit in with the Assassin's Creed vibe, you know? (no offense to Australians or Africans)

The gang says at the end they'll set up shop in a cabin so I suppose Desmond will re-enter the Animus in some way. I don't see the new Monteriggioni-type property being a tiny shack in the middle of a forest, so this could mean Ubisoft will ditch the whole property game mechanic - which may be likely - or include it again in Assassin's Creed 3.

The developers also said that they didn't like the idea of WWII for the next instalment, but they are considering Desmond may have a female ancestor (for once). The modernisation of Desmond's genetic memories has a big problem, though - guns. God knows how they'll do the future without them in some form.

Hmmm...early 20th century'd be fun, especially around Ireland. Colonial America could be fun, depending on how they did it. World Wars...eh. Modern day...eh. On the upside, however, there are all kinds of other places they could set it as well. I'm sure they'll think of something and (hopefully, anyway) it'll be fun.

Especially if you're sent after prostitutes in London around 1888, near Whitechapel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there virtually no links to America either? beyond some assassinations having taken place as shown in the subject 16 videos.

I thought during the Spanish civil war wpuld be a good plan. You have the modern weapon malarky from WW2, with it as an on the side storyline, and the templars have so much oppertunity to do stuff. The first ever bombing raid was on a spanish town, it could be said the templars were testing summit. The war could be used to weaken spain, take it then take Europe. There are many chances.

Victorian England, definitely. The Wild West, WW1, or WW2 would be boring in my opinion. This was a time of war and fitting an Assassin story into it would feel redundant in a way... It shouldn't be set before Altair's story, because that's just like... going back on your self, it seems totally needless. While ancient China or Japan seem interesting, that's a totally absurd idea because Desmond obviously isn't of Asian descent, and playing as another character would just be like playing a totally different game with the same foumale, pointless in my opinion. Might as well play Prince of Persia or something. No, it should, and most likely will be set in Victorian England (post Assassins Creed Brotherhood), simp[y because it is so shockingly the obvious choice, the history, landscape and atmosphere are absolutely perfect and would easily fit into an Assassins Creed game. IN MY OPINION.
