Where should the next assassin's creed take place?

Tim Buckley of Ctrl+Alt+Del fame made a suggestion I found interesting. Colonial Boston starting just prior to the Boston Massacre and running through the American Revolution and the French and Indian War.

I would even say mix it up and have the Animus Gender Bend Desmond into a female ancestor.

So nobody else wants any more Altair? I'm disappointed.
I would. When I actually read some of the codec material and found out that several of Leonardo's "innovations" for Ezio were really Altair's doing, I had to laugh.

you did not even need to read the codex from that, the games dialogue makes it pretty clear that Leonardo created those upgrades from the codex's pages

Like OP, I was thinking 18th century London. I think it's good that they're characterizing Desmond more with the last couple of games, however I think a modern day Assassin's Creed would fail, since, well... Every enemy would have firearms in the modern day, and I don't think I'd like seeing the series take a turn towards straight-up shooting.

Less than a century apart? AC:B is 1500-1503 and French revolution is 1789! That's 289 years by my count...
My bad, sorry. For some reason my brain was saying 1699 - 1707, though I have no idea why (the game covers a little longer than what you've got, in both directions)

In which case, French Revolution would make sense, but still...the French? Do not want. It'd bring back awful memories of The Saboteur

Feudal Japan, please.

Lots of cool looking buildings to climb and we get to be a ninja.

Though my guess is it will probably be Paris or somewhere with lots of familiar landmarks.
I'd love that to hell, however I can see it coming out badly given their approach to assassins so far. If they were to do so they'd have to revamp it entirely to make it good. For example, if they dropped the hidden blades, added more sneaking around at night, had some type of visual detection (camo based sight) and everything else that makes a ninja a freaking ninja then woot. But again seeing how they didn't change much between the first two they'll probably stick with the same formula and we'll end up with a very sad ninja.

Was I the only one who hated the ending to brotherhood?
It basically amounts to "I stab you and fall down!" and it just seemed like a massive tease for the next game.
Yeah, it was meant to be. Like the bit over the end credits where
a couple of men's voices are heard urgently trying to get Desmond back into an Animus before he goes into shock. Are they Templars or the other Assassins? It certainly wasn't Shaun and Rebecca.
Maybe this is all Desmonds son in an animus, and he's reliving his dads memories, and its all just memories within memories within memories within memories - I'll stop now.

It should take place with Future Desmond and his little gang, because after the end of thanks to the framing device from the first one, we now know that everything that all the Assassin victories from the past are 100% meaningless due the the Templar currently having the location of every single piece of Eden on the planet.

It's like watching any sort of prequel, you don't care how well the heroes save the world, because you already know it's all going to blow up in their face a few years down the road.

THE FUTURE!!!

Every single game so far has just felt like a trailer to Desmond finally manning up and kicking ass, so why has it not happened yet???

Yeah, my brother tried that theory out on me, but I don't buy it. For one thing, why bother reliving Desmond's memories at all? Either he saves the world in 2012 or he doesn't, and won't end up having a child. Even if he did, why bother reliving his memories? It's not exactly ancient history.

I would love to see Desmond have an experience with one of his Templar ancestors - its been pretty well laid down that he's got some in there back from the mix with Altair and Maria... maybe that would shed some light on what this long rivalry is really all about, because it seems far too simple to consider the Templars and Assassins are two groups that want the same thing but go about it different ways... what's the rivalry spark point, where did it all begin? That would be a great reveal before putting Desmond out in the present to do what needs to be done as the only one holding all the facts in either camp. It might mean going much further back in time though, and I am not sure when or where that would put it. Maybe back to Those that Came Before even.

Maybe they are just that desperate for a plot twist?

I would love it to be in feudal Japan with the ninjas as the assassins, and the samurai as the templars... that would be epic.

However due to the hints dropped at the end of Brotherhood I think it will most likely be the French Revolution as well a lot more Desmond and co.

Russia, during the revolution. They referenced it a lot in AC2 with the Glyphs, and it would be about the Assassins stealing the staff from the Czar.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: French Revolution.

~ It's in the late 1700s, meaning that it's a leap forward in time from AC2, but also not terribly far away from the future.
~ It is a time period in which weapons such as swords and daggers weren't obsolete.
~ It's a time of extreme chaos, extreme political unrest, danger and suspicion, meaning plenty of gameplay opportunities and a suitable setting for a game featuring assassins.
~ There would be HUNDREDS of assassination opportunities. HUNDREDS, I TELL YOU.
~ There are dozens of historical figures, events, and places of interest that could be incorporated into the game, much like they were in AC2: Napoleon, Marie Antoinette, the execution of King Louis, the storming of the Bastille, the Reign of Terror, etc.
~ Just as you could explore famous landmarks in AC2 -- cathedrals, for example -- this could be perfectly possible here. (Somebody tell me they DON'T want to leap about the Palace of Versailles. TELL ME.)
~ The Assassins v. Templars story could be incorporated into the rebellion uprising of the lower-class against the upper-class (greedy Templars).
~ It would be set in a foreign country with a new foreign language to butcher, which Ubisoft seems to like doing with the series.
~ To the best of my knowledge, this setting hasn't been covered before.
~ I can't believe you need anymore reasons.

Victorian London would also be good, but I kinda groan to myself a little when I see the Feudal Japan and WW1/2 replies. I most definitely don't think it would be a wise move on Ubisoft's part to set AC3 entirely in the future. Yeah, we're going to HAVE to see more of Desmond at some point, but it's really the history that truly makes AssCreed unique: let's face it, it's not the actual stealth that's holding this series up. If it's set completely in 2012, it's almost lumping in its lot with everything else, and probably pretty badly, in comparison to other games with a modern-era setting (hint: lots).

Also, who likes Desmond. Seriously. I couldn't stand to play as him for a 10-20 hour game.
