Anyone who has played ArmA 2 can tell you LOADS of stories like this.
I was playing the notorious 'Badlands' mission, and I was charged with the task of capturing the town of Novy Sobor. Upon leading my men into the town, a firefight of monumental proportions erupted. There were several enemy APCs (Vodnik, BTR-90, and something else) moving in on the town and there seemed to be numerous Russian troops and Chedaki partisans flooding the streets.
The battle lasted for almost 40 minutes as my squad and I hunkered down in one of the eastern defense points bordering Stary Sobor.
When the shooting stopped, I stood up to see what was going on. All of the enemy APCs had been dispatched by RPG fire, and bodies littered the streets. My sniper gave the message, "All clear!" over the radio, so I ordered my men to get to their feet and return to formation so we could march out of town (having lost about 2/3 of them), regroup in our camp, and re-arm to capture the next town to the southwest. I moved through the town with my small Marine detachment to round up the rest of the guerilla fighters under my command when all of a sudden I dropped dead.
Apparently, a single Russian soldier had survived the battle (hiding somewhere), and he had managed to get off a single shot to the side of my head before my machine gunner managed to mow him down.
The worst part is that I was playing on Expert difficulty. You are only allowed one user defined save per mission, you must use iron sights on all weapons, and I had turned on the 'Super AI' as well.
I have to do it all over again, and I have yet to get past that fucking town!
