I've never been to any concert, but, based on videos I've seen, my vote goes to Muse. (Honestly, I haven't seen many other videos of bands playing live. But, especially with the crap that is on this side of the world, and the fact that I just KNOW that Muse rocks the live stage, I feel confident in my opinion.)

Ace vocals, awesome stage design, awesome instrument playing, and awesome band members. (It probably helps that they are also my favorite band...)

Feel free to state your reasons!

And, is your favorite band your favorite live band? Do you like any bands that are awful live?

KISS.

I mean... wow.

Say what you will about the music (pay particular attention to how it's disposable, irrelevant trash), but that fucking stage show.

EDIT:

I feel I should represent the other end of the scale here (i.e. the bands who can't afford to spend thousands on fireworks each night).

CAPTAIN AHAB

A thousand times that.

Killswitch Engage was absolutely brutal live. I have made a vow to see them whenever they come to detroit, indy, battle creek, chicago, lansing, etc.

I've only ever been to two concerts, Lights and Nightwish.

Out of the two, Nightwish was better.

Muse do amazing live shows. Pink Floyd did epic ones back in the day, as did Roger Waters when he went solo.

They all play their songs perfectly and incorporate great visuals. If you can get your hands on Roger Waters Live in Berlin, he performs the full "The Wall" album from start to finish, complete with guest artists and a performance including the construction of a massive wall.

Additionally, this performance of Comfortable Numb, the disco ball will blow your mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWnapx502uQ

Having been to hundreds of shows AC/DC is definately up there. For a smaller band The Atomic Bitchwax are absolutely phenominal.

I'm going to go with Iggy Pop.

Mostly because the guy is freaking insane.

And he practically invented stage-diving!

No, he did invent it.

I just saw MDC and the Restarts live. They were both pretty awesome.

I have only ever seen 3 bands live. All at 1 gig (I is gig noob). Hexes, Kids in Glass Houses and Lostprophets. I loved Lostprophets live. Even though they didn't do anything fancy, I still believe We Are Godzilla, You Are Japan was AMAZING live.

Don't forget about crows walking and chest cutting on stage.

Isis and Sunn O))) probably.
What he said, and the fact his name is a Kyuss song he wins 10 respect points.

Hmmmm, I guess it all depends, so I'll just tell you which bands I really enjoyed live.

Rammstein are really famous for the visuals, and rightfully so. Their concerts are as much about visuals as they are about music and are definitely worth seeing live.

Slipknot puts a lot of work into choreography, and you can see that. They know the exact moment they will switch places or pull some stunts. They have decent contact with the audience, too. But they don't sound that good live.

Metallica has an AMAZING chemistry with the audience. You don't come to their concerts to see them perform, you come to perform with them. They deserve all those Best Live Band awards they got.

Ozzy Osbourne doesn't put on much of a show, but he's a true professional. You can see he really enjoys performing and doesn't phone his shows in. As an added bonus, you get Zakk's solos.

Well, I could go on, but I guess I'll stop here.

Part 2 - bands I wouldn't recommend seeing live.

KoRn and Exilia come out and play a setlist. That's it. KoRn tries to put on a bit of a show, but ultimately, they don't seem to have a lot of chemistry going on.

Vader live is a disaster, at least at the show I've seen them. You're better off restricting yourself to the studio versions.

From what I've seen on screen, Blind Guardian has an incredible contact with the audience.

And Bryan Adams seems to be one of those few people who sound the same live as in studio.

They Might be Giants were awesome.

Kiss were phenomenal I saw them in 1996 the year back in makeup at their first UK date

The Grandmothers of Invention breathtaking musician ship

Gong for more costume changes than an entire Broadway musical

bad Manners for getting the entire venue jumping literally no one was still not even the door staff!

Pitiful Reign for being just full on hard thrash

Megadeth and Slayer, when I saw them last year.

That show was awesome beyond words.

I want to see Anaal Nathrakh live, though. :(
