In RPGs I try to make "Big Black Jack"
Hes usually big black and has a war hammer.

But in different FPSs I have different likings on Call of Duty for example I like being a sniper and am pretty decent at it but on halo I am the basic pick up whatever I can find player.

Shotguns, tanks, rocket launchers, these are the tools of my trade. Not that I won't stealth it up every now and then, but for the most part I like to cause the most damege I can in the least amount of time.

Sniper.

The really annoying kind that seems to be round every corner waiting for you. Even worse I can no scope in most games too.
It's amazing how many people call me a camper depite being killed from five or six different locations consecutively.

I usually change my player class to accommodate to the current situation, but I usually try to take the sneaky/unseen method. Like in Day of Defeat, I tend to be the rifleman a lot, unless we're being stormed, then I'll switch to assault or pick up a machine gun laying around.

s'all about the mage warrior. Bringing the pwn since 2005.

As for guns, it's all about the G3 and M4 Carbine, or just the G3 and pistola.

Pistolas ftw.

If I can blow things up and set stuff on fire I will be doing that. So Demoman, grenadeacidele retard, stupid mage running around throwing fireballs at shit. Fire!

In TF2 I vary by mood... a lot of the time I'll want to run full force into a crowd of enemies and take as many of them with me as possible (Pyro, Soldier or Demoman, depending on how skilful I feel like being) Other times I'll want to hang back and pick people off from a distance (Sniper) or sneak around in the background doing my own thing to help the team along (Engineer or Spy)

Heavy's always good for a laugh too, so I get around most of the classes. Except Scout. I suck with Scout... only ever use it for intel grabs or control point captures. Oh and Medic, I'm not bad as Medic but it's not the most exciting thing to be playing.

Other game I'm playing at the moment is Left4Dead, in which I always take the shotguns. There is no better weapon for bringing down zombies than a good shotgun.

When there's the option I tend towards playing as evil... just seems less inhibited, more fun. I'm playing a game specifically because it differs from real life on certain key points, and the requirement of morality is one of them. That and the detachability of limbs.

In an RPG I usually play as the stealth/technology guy who acts incredibly nice despite stabbing people in the back.
If its an FPS I try to acquire a silenced weapon or if not that a weapon with a medium range, and the good nice guy thing still happens to me for example in Left 4 Dead I have only 30 health left and the A.I. had 40 left I think. I healed him even though he would most likely not die anyway. In Cod4 I have a rule of not using Martyrdom or Juggernaut as I would rather not waste my enemies bullets or take a kill that required me to die.

I go sniper when the option is there, stealth when that option is there. And I always go good, I just can't play as an evil character without feeling guilty for a week.
Really? I thought I was the only one, in Fallout 3 I never choose the speech choices that are mean or unfair, I felt awful for about 2 hours after I told Fawkes to get lost :(

Well, this only applies to FPS, but:

If it's a game based around guns and tactics, I go melee, or at least close-ranged weaponry such as shotguns. If it's a game based around melee, I go ranged. If it's a highly strategic game, I charge. If it's a run-and-gun, I think out ridiculously complex plans.

Basically, I do whatever everyone else isn't doing.

I can only play evil characters after I play good.

But I always play either a tank or healer, so I can complain about all things.

I'm not very good with quick reflexes and aiming so, I prefer a class that can hit from a distance. I like to play snipers and mages that can squash foes from far away. If the combat is more strategic and less about sudden moves, then I prefer a heavy melee fighter that can run in and chop everything to pieces with a few slashes of his sword. I always play as a good character.

I tend to play a bit of everything, and I find nearly all of it enjoyable. I like close-quarter shotgun-based classes, I like sniping classes, I like generic infantry classes, etc. I guess in an FPS, I like to snipe more, and in an RPG, I like to be more of a fast melee-class. Not a HURR DURR PROPOSTERONE guy, more like a ninja-running-oh-shit-where-did-he-go kinda guy.
