I had similar issues, I just had to "run as administrator" and then it worked fineLeonite7 said:Mass Effect.
No matter how bloody hard I tried I couldn't get it to work.
The stupid General Protection Fault comes up before I can even get to the main menu!
Or the game crashes to desktop also before I get to the main menu.
I tried for about a day to get the game to work but in the end I just gave up.
Yes, I shall admit that and the foster father made me go "meh" and took a bit out of the fun, that's why I liked MOTB more than the first campaign. Though I'm not that against the character background being provided, some times it may be that or no game, certainly I don't think the case of NWN2 required to do that. Still, I enjoyed and managed to see it as a meaningful story where my char was doing something for a reason.scumofsociety said:Odd that, I really liked the story in NWN1, but all the "chosen one" crap in NWN2 didn't grab me at all. By the time I gave up I had forgotten why my charcater was doing whatever task I was trying to accomplish and didn't care anymore either. It's probably because I was forced into it and given a character background that I didn't want.Toothache of Sauron said:I agree about NWN2 controls, I hate them too. But the story is much better, it kept me all thorough, while hlaf hour in NWN1 I was asleep just wanting to see the end that never arrived and it was all just a click feast. Maybe using a melee PC, monk, was not the best idea.
Well, different stories hold different people I suppose, 'Stop the Plague, Fenthyck gets hung to placate the angry mob, go to hunt down the dudes responsible for the plague, Aribeth switches sides over the hanging, hunt her ass down and decide what to do with her etc' worked fine for me. Also, I liked the gameplay, it worked, clearing out dungeons to get item was fun, combat was enjoyable and simple so I didn't notice the lack of variation, I was having too much fun playing the game, following the story and exploring. That's why I still prefer NWN to NWN2 and DA:O as combat in the latter 2 is (to quote 'him') a bit of a clusterfuck IMO.Toothache of Sauron said:I must say too that NWN1 story could have been great, I got in at the start and liked it a lot up until the moment I went through Helm's Keep, I think in fact it was during the first quarter of second chapter that I got bored of it. I think the problem with NWN1 was its length, so many times having to go to a dungeon to kill all that moved and get what was in the end, without finding a plot point in what felt like forever made it into a monotonous "find quest giver, go to dungeon, kill all that moves, grab items in last room, return to quest giver" cycle again and again and again that I got out of living a story and act within it and in to algortyhmic machine mode. Sooooo boring. I played to the end with the hope at some point I could reach a point that took me back in or just could see the end.
I never saw a mission where I had to sneak up on anybody or do something different than kill for item. NWN2 at least had the fort management part, and the battle with the army of shadows to look forward to, which was a needed change of pace. And in between the rare mission that you could solve with diplomacy (though it followed a dungeon crawl killing all undead) with the lizardmen and the coastal town. That helps a lot, even if still 95% of missions were go and kill, and offsets the chosen crap and given background cons.
Maybe I'll replay it once of these days, see if now I get into it better.
I could never get into NWN at all, the gameplay angered me when I first started, but I continued playing as I thought maybe if I looked past the annoying controls and battles it would have an awesome story, I found that I didn't really enjoy it so I never really tried 2. Maybe one day I'll go back to it, it's been a year or 2 after all.scumofsociety said:Well, different stories hold different people I suppose, 'Stop the Plague, Fenthyck gets hung to placate the angry mob, go to hunt down the dudes responsible for the plague, Aribeth switches sides over the hanging, hunt her ass down and decide what to do with her etc' worked fine for me. EDIT: Tip, if you do replay, don't choose a monk. I went rogue (as usual) and once you get the feyduster shortsword and rapier combat gets a lot easier. Also, get one level of shadowdancer so you can sneak whenever you want.

I've only played the game online once at a friend's and at one point, spawned directly under a supply drop. I was alive for like, less than half a second then BAM! Took me a moment to realise what the hell had just happened... but I guess it was more hilarious than frustrating.L3m0n_L1m3 said:The spawn system in Modern Warfare 2. Personally I wouldn't bother with 2, they somehow managed to make the gameplay worse IMO. I gave my copy to my sister in the end, it's one of the only games I've never botherd finishing.Forever of the Stars said:I could never get into NWN at all, the gameplay angered me when I first started, but I continued playing as I thought maybe if I looked past the annoying controls and battles it would have an awesome story, I found that I didn't really enjoy it so I never really tried 2. I Wanna Be The Guy is THE hardest game of all time, no other game will surpass it. I still come back to it every single day. For those who have never played IWBTG, google it and download it. I'll see you in a few months... or years.Sevre90210 said:I wanna be the guy is a ***** to play and damn near impossible to beat.
Really? I had actually heard the opposite from a few friends of mine. Hmmmm.... I will have to think about this.scumofsociety said:Personally I wouldn't bother with 2, they somehow managed to make the gameplay worse IMO.
