I can't believe nobodys mentioned "Z", which is probably THE hardest strategygame to this date and one of the most innovative for its time.
At a time when Command and Conquer was seen as the norm, Z introduced multitasking that would make Windows spasm in pure envy, tactical choices that actually could make or break your round and an AI enemy so unforgiving there were days I could have chucked my keyboard out the window.
Building a the strongest tank and sending it at the infantry could flip from your strongest card to your biggest mistake as the tank gunners could decide to pop the hatch and fire a few shots with the pintelmounted machinegun only to get sniped by the infantry squad and BOOM, the tank belongs to the enemy.
But God I love it for its cutscenes and gameplay. One of the best games ever :D

Heart of Darkness for the PS was also hell to beat, but it had a cool story.

I hate Ninja Gaiden 2 with a passion. I absolutely loved the original (I'm talking about the Xbox versions, mind you), but the second was just bullshit.

Nice avatar picture by the way, Blue Oyster Cult rules ;)

Anywho, back on topic, games that have no quicksave, or a dodgy third person view where the camera stays static (spiderman games, tomb raider games, prince of persia games) probably do me in the most.

The level design in The Force Unleashed as well as the enemies constantly spamming attacks and not letting you get up >.<

Apart from that it was a good game with amazing graphics.

honestly, there has never been a game I've played that at some point hasn't annoyed me, or frustrated me. Just goes with playing them so frequently, for extended numbers of hours at a time and when I'm really stressed/tired.

True, that's to be expected, I was trying to go a little more for the games that no matter your state no matter where, just throw you into a sort of hulk-like controller breaking rage.

Bayonetta. i saw that there was Normal, Easy and Very Easy when i first got the game. at that time i also didnt know that you can increase your health meter by getting Witches Hearts, making you live longer(i think). so i decided to go on Normal, and not be a pussy by starting out on Easy....yea kinda a bad idea. i nearly broke my controller about 10 minutes ago cause of that fucking game

OK, in that case Oblivion, with Oscuroes Oblivion Overhaul it's just infuriating, I've seen the loading screen so, so many times.

Maybe Mass Effect, (for me) the harder difficulties are like a exercise in quick saving, you forget and you lose about 30 minutes of gaming. Doing the same 30 minute segment for an hour or so is keyboard smashingly annoying.

I remember Trespasser too! I somehow finished that thing!
I remember my arm would always end up in some strange position meaning I couldn't shoot things!
And the T-Rex chasing me, somehow fell off a cliff but didn't die...wasn't chasing me anymore though. Raptors annoyed me too! They'd always come from nowhere!
If they'd sorted things out though it could have been an amazing game! So many good ideas!

World of Warcraft can be annoying! Spending ages doing an instance, the boss drops the weapon you've been waiting ages for, then someone else gets it...then you finally do get the weapon and you get something better 5 minutes later anyway.

Games that have shit controls, like when I played Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox360 I pretty much gave up on the last level. If I'd stuck with it I could have beaten it, but it wasn't really the frustration of being unable to complete it, and more frustrating how I felt that I was fighting with the controls more than fighting the actual enemies. I hate how most of the game had evolved into a decent-but-ordinary third person shooter, yet the game was STILL clinging onto its dated, unnecessary survival horror elements (in this case, the horrible controls survival horror games all seem to have). Also the entire movement felt linear and restricted, the game only let me jump when it wanted me to jump; same with crouching and climbing and taking cover. Its slow, clunky, imprecise, and this is not to mention not being able to move while aiming.

Same goes for Dead Space. I'm playing it through at the moment and mostly finding it decent, but the controls on the PC are frustrating and I'm not entirely sure I'll bother gritting my teeth through it if there's a difficulty spike somewhere near the end.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are some awfully big difficulty spikes in Dead Space.

It's generally very functional on the 360 version though, the controls feel satisfying and precise, apart from those awful meteor shooting bits. I'd reccommend giving that version a go.

Demon's Souls. At first I lolquit about 3 hours in. I gave it another shot a couple of weeks later to lolquit again due to being tired of running through 2-2 a million times to get pulverized by Flamelurker, and then again gave it one more shot a week later, but this time shit was serious. After about the 6th time I got surprise buttsexed by a troll 90 minutes in 5-2, the choice became clear that I would either have to shut off my brain or go apeshit and break EVERYTHING in my apartment. I chose the first and a couple of deaths later I beat it, only to happily find myself challenging King Allant and realising that this boss has an attack that delevels you and unlearns your spells. Permanently. All I was capable of at that point were nervous chuckles. I beat him 3 tries later and 10 levels lower.

Well if we're talking about a game that's so horribly glitched that there's no way to play it then I'd say a game like that is pretty bad

But then there are the games that test you and make you work and think at the same time to get to your goal, those games are frustrating to play them yet satisfying to complete them.

Yeah, I just came across one of those spikes yesterday and pretty much gave up.

Now I'm back to playing it again but with a trainer in the background giving me Infinite Health and power nodes. I don't give a shit anymore, I just want to shoot some stuff and get to the end to give myself some closure. =P Too frustrating wrestling with the controls all the time and dying as a result.

Yeah, it's one of the few shooter I can't imagine translates well to a mouse and keyboard.

Even if you're using cheats, it's worth playing through to the end to see some of the fantastic graphics, bosses and level design.

"twas a glorious victory for me that day.

I almost couldn't believe it. But then I was able to do a speed run of it the next day and didn't die once :p
