I can't believe nobodys mentioned "Z", which is probably THE hardest strategygame to this date and one of the most innovative for its time.
At a time when Command and Conquer was seen as the norm, Z introduced multitasking that would make Windows spasm in pure envy, tactical choices that actually could make or break your round and an AI enemy so unforgiving there were days I could have chucked my keyboard out the window.
Building a the strongest tank and sending it at the infantry could flip from your strongest card to your biggest mistake as the tank gunners could decide to pop the hatch and fire a few shots with the pintelmounted machinegun only to get sniped by the infantry squad and BOOM, the tank belongs to the enemy.
But God I love it for its cutscenes and gameplay. One of the best games ever
