Maybe its not the best voice acting but Fable 3 had the most enjoyable VA
i for one enjoyed not knowing who was in the cast (bar John cleese seeing as thats literally the first person anyone mentions and zoe wannamaker and Stephen Fry as how they were in Fable 2 as well) and recognising them as i went along

your simon peggs, mark heaps, nicholas hoults, Jason Manfords, Bernard Hills, Ben Kingsleys and Sean Pertwees all made the game an extra joy to play through

and truly great was Drakensang, the prequel was even better, i'd dare to say nearly perfect

The Legacy of Kain series is the best example of voice acting in a game for me personally.

Still gives me the shivers when I listen those two. Oh and for the dude who mentioned Final Fantasy X.....this sprang to mind.

Batman:AA comes to mind as well as RDR,
But the taker for me is Portal 2.
I actually felt like they are talking to me, even with them being robotic.

Too many to mention and yes...a lot of them Bioware games, but Irrational deserves a very special mention too for giving out some truly amazing voice acting ever since System Shock 2. Obsidian is so and so...sometimes absolutely brilliant...other times moreso lackluster in their direction.

I'll just name my favourite actors and the characters they voiced:

Jennifer Hale in practically everything she's ever done. Won't say anymore, don't need to I think.

Sara Kestleman as Kreia in KOTOR 2. That performance...was when I first realized just how amazing older people (especially actors with decades of experience) can be if they're called upon. Absolutely flawless in every way.

Kate Mulgrew as Flemeth in DA:O and DA2. Building off the previous, no doubt, but she put such a hilariously half-madcap half-enigmatic and all true spin on it that I just can't get enough of her.

Whoever did SHODAN's voice from System Shock 2 did it damn well. I know there are added effects and all, but you can feel her venom dripping with every word beautifully.

Whoever did Dr. Steinman, Sander Cohen and Andrew Ryan in Bioshock. All terrific performances and different variations of madness.

Jim Cummings as Minsc from Baldur's Gate 2. Ah...who could ever forget him. And Boo too.

I also liked Jaheira's voice actor a lot in that game, even if her character was not quite my cup of tea.

And to wrap it up with my favourite from the already cited example that is *not* FemShep - whoever voiced Samara in Mass Effect 2 certainly deserves more recognition. Maybe it's just because few female actors get the chance to pull off a character that is strong, incredibly reserved though filled with inner turmoil but not one into whose pants the player can get (despite it potentially getting close), but she just nailed the role in my opinion.

Ugh... I can't believe there are people that actually liked the voice acting in this game.

Actually, I can't even believe there are people who love this game. It has redeeming qualities but it mostly annoyed the hell out of me.

while it was debateable how enjoyable the game was (i personally enjoyed it) I think Alpha protocal had some great characters with equally as great voice actors to really make their roles shine, Examples:

Steven Heck:

Konstantin Brayko:

and some people don't like Michael Thorton as a character, but I think that's just the way his character was designed and I think his voice actor compliments it well (such as nolan north with drake in uncharted)

I find this true of a lot of Bioware titles. Not all, but most of them. Then again, they use a lot of the same actors in multiple projects, so that makes sense.

Sonic Colors actually had awesome voice acting. Thanks to Roger Craig Smith.

Mass Effect 2 had awesome acting as well.

Half Life 2 is probably the game with best voice acting.

All good answers. I recently discovered, through Imdb viewing, that one of Kate Mulgrew's former costars from Voyager also voiced acted in Dragon Age Origins.

Tim Russ, who played Tuvok on Voyagers was Zathrian, the Dalish Keeper in The Nature of the Beast quest. it's kinda sad their characters didn't get to interact, that would have been friggin sweet. I had to go back and watch a youtube clip. It's weird to hear emotion in his voice after getting used to him as a Vulcan.

In terms of just NAILING the time period it's set in? Bioshock, no question.

In terms of just having a really big cast with LOTS of great voice talent in it? Kingdom Hearts.
ninjad damnit, but yeah kingdom hearts had an all around great voice acting with all the main charackters having great voice acting.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 (mostly)
All the Valve games post-HL2. Especially Portal 2.

Uncharted had good voice acting, but I hated that game. So I'm saying Kingdom Hearts.

Yes, it looked awful. But they have almost all of the voice actors from the old Disney movies and FF games. It was great.

EDIT: All right, that one game that Nolan North voiced had good acting. You know, the one where he was a sarcastic, ruggedly handsome narcissist? Yeah, that one.
