Oh, I also hate mario :)
I agree with you both, I got FF7 because EVERYONE was saying how great it was and I thought it was just drivel, utterly pointless drivel.

As for Mario, I wouldn't say I hate Mario, It was just a gmae that passed me by and having played it since I really can;t see what all the fuss was about.

Double hate for me please; I hate the Mario and Final Fantasy games...
I can agree with you on Final Fantasy. There's just to damn many of them. There needs to be a final Final Fantasy.

And I don't like what the Mario franchise has turned into, but the old Mario games from the N64 and everything before that were pretty good.

Would it hurt Nintendo to make some kind of original IP once in a while rather than milking its dreadful cartoons again and again?
Let me rephrase that: Would it hurt Nintendo to shut down it's massive free money printing factory and actually work for it's supper?

I never got the first two Fallout games. I don't hate them, but they don't really float my boat.

Half-Life 2. I just don't get all the love. It's just so mediocre I can't even get angry with it.

I loathe this thread, people saying that games only a few years old are consider "classics" makes me feel old.

Edit: Also the whole viewing of old games with expectations of new games.

I think Final Fantasy 7 ruined the franchise. I usually get a lot of flak when I say that, but the games were just more fun when they were 2D. Maybe it's because they required a little imagination. Maybe it's because I like characters who resemble marshmallows. I don't know. All I do know is that I loved everything Final Fantasy up until Cloud came on the scene.

Although I will admit that "One-Winged Angel" is a great orchestral piece.

EDIT: Wow. I see I've been massively ninja'd on the FF7 thing. I officially love this thread.

Not sure if it's considered a 'classic' but at the time the twisted metal games came out they were bigger than jesus. I really disliked them and found them to be boring after about 4 minutes.

Another one is 'doom' and especially doom 2. The 2nd one came out and every single person I knew had a copy (including my brothers) the games made me motion sick, I thought it was too easy to get turned around since everything looked the same, and it just wasn't that interesting to be in various blue and black boxy tunnels.

When Duke Nukem came out like a year or two later I enjoyed that a hell of a lot more. Maybe because the levels actually felt like different places. (A city, a football field ect). Few of my friends would convert to the clearly superior game.

Tetris and pacman.. they are repetitive, luck dependent and take too long to get to the challenging bits

I remember when Resident Evil 4 came out, everybody raved every single day how it was the bee's knees. I was a huge fan of the RE series but for whatever reason never got around to playing RE4 until one day I picked it up on the Wii, and... I don't think I've ever been so let down in my life. I mean, honestly, the way I'd sum up the game is "walk into an area, wait 5 minutes for all the not-zombies to zombie their way over to you in a neat line and shoot them all in the head. Move onto next area and repeat". It was just so... ugh. Not Resident Evil.

I tried the RE5 demo and the controls made me want to strangle someone they were so frustrating, so I didn't bother with that at all.

Deus Ex. Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree here. The story doesn't really engage and it just plays bad.
Actually what does make or break the case with Deus Ex is whether or not you stick around for the Alien Mission(Level Designs still worth drooling today) or the meeting with the illuminaty head. Having a philosophical discussion with a robotic surveillance system about replacing religion with robots... the games has delusions alright, but delusions on the scale of poetry.

If anything is video games citizen cane or watchmen it's Deus Ex.

Does the game need to be old to be a "classic"? If so then I never got into Metroid or Starfox. However, if it's allowed to be a new game and a "classic", I just couldn't get to same level of adoration that my friends all have for MW2. I liked the stories in the first games better, so it just might have been my expectations, but it was a "Meh" game at best for me.

I get absolutely no joy from the Monkey Island series. I've got nothing against point and click games - I love the Broken Sword series - but Monkey Island just doesn't do anything for me. Maybe I just don't get the humour?

All of them.

I've got my reasons.
Heh, that's the first thing that popped into my head too...word for word...except the last line...but I've got my reasons as well.

EDIT: "Wipe them out...all of them!" cookie for reference :)

I think the RE4 completely changed the series. It wasnt the same kind of game as the other 3. They really could have changed some names and called it something else, and noone would link it to Resident Evil. But you know, franchises.
