If there is one games series that the fanbase would never complain about it's Halo. Don't get me wrong i really love Halo, but i can't understand why people are saying stuff like HALO INVENTED FIRST PERSON VEHICULAR COMBAT! I liked them and i think the masterchief is pretty badass, but a game cannot reach perfection. There are always bugs glitches or things you need to do that just don't make sense. Halo 2 bad ending, Halo 3 too short. Halo odst? should have been an add-on. But at least game developers are trying to make a game better. It's the reason why they changed the multiplayer in Halo : reach. But other game company's don't do that and stay with the same formula over and over again. Every zelda game since ocarina of time had the same feeling and concept. Every single mario game has the same story and to make it even more worse mario galaxy 1 and 2 were exactly the same game.

You can make a game better, but make it perfect is impossible. No matter how hard you try a game will have it's share of fans and a share people who don't like it.

But one day there will be a perfect game, but that day may never come.

I Anti-spoilered my response so that only somebody who has played the game will understand. I agree totally. MGS4 was the perfect game of the series.
See though? Just by saying 'it was the perfect game of the series', you've said that the rest of the series isn't nearly the same thing. If every MGS game was pretty much the same game with a new story, I'd be inclined to put it up on the list. (When I get around to making a list that is.)
They were all brilliant, and extremely similar, but with MGS4 they refined it and made it better than the rest. There is not one single thing that i would change about that game. Not one.
That there is a bold statement indeed! I'm most curious to know if anyone else agrees...

Personally I can't think of any game I find more enjoyable on-its-own than Ultimate Spider-Man... not because it's anything special, but because swinging around the city for hours is just... Fun! It's far from perfect though.

I would have to say either Pokemon or the Legend of Zelda series. That which is perfect will need to be altered the least, and (Nintendo being behind their production also has something to do with this) these games have not changed very much at all from generation to generation and sequel to sequel. Zelda: Zelda/some woman=kidnapped, you, Link, savior of Hyrule/other, must save Zelda/other, finding 3 swords (usually), a slingshot, boomerang, etc along the way, and fight your way through basically the same dungeons from game to game. Pokemon: Today's the day you become a Pokemon trainer! Go out and catch em' all, taking down gym leaders, finding rare pokemon, and meeting friends along the way.

Perhaps we should clarify that in this instance, 'Perfect' means that the developers have created something they can release over and over with pretty new clothing and fans will happily pay money for it - AND enjoy it over and over simply because it's exactly what they want: More of the same without getting dull.

Dark Cloud 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are my examples of perfection in a game.
Dark Cloud 2 had an art style that looks sort of like it was hand drawn and it hasn't aged a bit since release. It has so much content and none of it seems dull, all the side quests and mini games are great. For its time (and even now) its voice acting was amazing. The story and gameplay, while simple are great and memorable. And the fishing minigame... so many hours sunk in to that...

As for Galaxy 2, one part is that it is another Mario Galaxy yet it feels completely new when compared to the first. It is colourful and has excellent level design. A perfect blend of challenge and fun for each level and a charm throughout the whole game that makes me smile.

I know they are not perfect over every game but in their genres and what they do they are perfect. They all do so much and pull it off flawlessly and these games surely will never show their age to me.

Thank you! I was waiting for someone to mention Galaxy...

Even Galaxy 1 was just a prettier re-creation of the original Mario 64 with a few new items and such thrown in. At its base, it's essentially the same game with a beautiful new pair of overalls - but that's exactly what we wanted! And the same can be said of Galaxy 2.

Portal.

I cannot think of anything they could have done to improve that game. Sure, it was only about three hours long. But I would prefer that a developer stop making a game once they've run out of ideas rather then pad it out with filler content or travel sections. And those three hours? They were three hours of distilled bliss.

Although it's technically not a series... yet.

Red Dead Redemption is the closest game I've played in a while. The story got bogged down at times, but it's still an amazing game.

The online is rather meh, however, and John puts his gun away every five seconds, which really pisses me off. Also, the horses are dicks, never stopping next to you.

Shame on me for not remembering Portal! (Probably because the sequel hasn't been released yet).

And this puts me in a bind... because even though I can safely assume Portal 2 will be just as amazing as Portal 1 - if not More so... it's already obviously a different enough game to not even be close to being the same thing.

Having said that, I will happily eat my words when the time comes - and it will be delicious.

I hope for the sake of all involved that Portal 2 will allow the series to grace this list!

I'm still pissed at the one Ratchet and Clank for making my awesome volcano gun into a terrible molten rock launcher. I think it was Going Commando that did that...
That was indeed a horrible decision on Insomniac's part. Luckily, that mistake was rectified in Up Your Arsenal where the lave gun changed into a liquid nitrogen gun.

For me, God of War 2 comes very close to being a near perfect game. Everything from the visual design to the gameplay to the variety of the environments and enemies, it was all seamlessly integrated.

A game is perfect if it can achieve one thing: It is Duke nukem forever and/or it has no lag!
HAHAHAHAHAHAH I am deeply amused by that.

Duke Nukem 3D was so amazingly fun... after all's said and done, if Duke Nukem Forever even comes close to being as fun, that'll be enough for me.

That was fast.

But seriously, i wish all games had abosolutely no lag, in some games, if i am almost dead, it lags, which seals my fate indefinetly( untill next spawn )

I must say Halo. All of em!

The game that perfected FPS's and threw gaming out of the Wolfenstein-age.
The first FPS to have a decent story and appealing characters.

BEST GAME-SERIES EVER!

Yeah... the worst is when they're Offline games that are STILL lagging like all hell - they're the most infuriating, mainly 'cause you Know that it's your computer doing it... but that it shouldn't be happening at all!

Perfection is only when EVERYONE (a majority of GAMERS) believe it is perfect.....and i will have you know, a large chunk HATE halo and think its not perfect at all...i still like sarge tho, because the drill sergent types are always awesome
