good lord, you would think that if the mushroom kingdom had enough time to set up that many fortifications, that they would at least attempt to train a competent military force.

And sonic. But his bad days are in this world... poor blue streak can't catch a break with the current dev team working on him.

But I think the top one would have to be the vault dweller from 101. I mean, you grow up in a vault, and have NO training whatsoever. (I even role-played this by tagging the science, medicine, and speech skills, rather then weapon skills)
And one day you wake up to find your home in chaos, your "Leader" wanting your blood, and your only escape to be going out into a world that is most definitely NOT inviting. And to beat it all, you can't win. you WILL die. even with a rad suit and an ungodly HEAP of rad-away, you just can not win.

We can all agree that characters go through alot of hardships, but some stand out above the rest. these are generally the ones we can relate with. In my case i think the gold metal may go to Isaac Clark from Dead Space. You can hear/see his frustration in his every heavy movement. (especially when he's stomping some necromorph babies)
Another strong competetor for me would be poor ol' Gordon Freeman (It was his first day).

Personally, Sonic.

I mean come on. He has to put up with tons of shitty games that's plunging his reputation down the crapper, he has to put up with the bunch of psychotic, shit flinging cuntmunching asswipes called Sonic Team *hock-poo*. And he won't JUST FUCKING DIE!!!! Or..... at least.... Sonic Team.

I kinda did too. Sonic's parts were the highlight, but they were plagued far too much by Sonic Team's patented "Let's-Take-A-Huge-Gimmick-Shit-All-Over-Established-Formula"

Master Chief. He gets back from a mission to find that he's being sent with the other Spartans to capture some random Covenant ship, then gets sent back to Reach when it's attacked, then his teammates almost all die (only a few survive) in the ensuing battle, THEN he ends up on Halo. He's got another Spartan locked in a cryo-chamber and the rest of his surviving teammates stuck underground on Reach, battles the Covenant AND the Flood, then when he blows up the place he has to fight more Covenant to get home. Then as soon as he gets to Earth he's in YET ANOTHER BATTLE, then fights on another Halo, then fights all through Earth and the Ark immediatly after being captured and tortured by Covenant forces. All this with not a moments rest between. How can anybody have a worse time than that, even if he is a super-soldier bred for war?

That's exactly what he was trained a bred to do. Fight, fight, kill something, fight.

I gotta go with Isaac Clarke. He's an Engineer alone on a ship full of mutant creatures bent on eating him. What could be worse?

Then he figures out his entire life was a lie and he's been helping a criminal the whole time.

Wakes up lost and hung over in the middle of nowhere, then has his ditsy girlfriend abducted. In his quest for money and his girlfriend, he gets stuck fighting all manner of things, including gargoyles, insects, robots, dinosaurs, cavemen, zombies, and vampires. He gets drafted, then has to go fight Nazi teddy bears, pull off a bank heist, and then lastly,

Gordon Freeman. At this point he hasen't slept, eaten, bathed or been to the bathroom since the beginning of the first game. He has been thrown into numerous gunfights and must have several pounds of lead in his flesh. He has been forced to go down every dark corridor and abandon asylum that he happens to run across. He has been accosted by numerous headcrab and zombies. He can't speak. He's broken his leg a few times (assuming that you fell from a tall building). He's probability addicted to morphine by now. He's seen his home planet invaded and concurred by alien forces. His job got blowed up. And this was all on his first freaking day! Now that is one seriously bad time right there.

All the S-II candidates were abducted and replaced by flash clones. They've known nothing but fighting and war. What would you expect him to do when he knows humanity is still fighting?
