Ok, so this is my first ever Topic forum thingy so apologies if I do anything wrong.

So I took the gaming villain test here on the Escapist and as you can see I came up as Sephiroth. Now its not that I dont like him (as a Kingdom Hearts vet I can attest to his bad assery) its just I did not pick any of the family answers. Im not hating on the Escapist it just got me thinking about which bad guy I most relate to. So thats what im asking, what bad guy do you agree with, not like because of how they look or go about doing their buisness, but what they believe.

Personally for me its Andrew Ryan. His ideas of hard work and reaping what you sow, of parasites leeching off the ideas and work of others really hit home with me.

Please people no stirring, this is my first post and I like the Escapist, so no one replying "Hitler, because of how he veiwed others", I dont want to get into trouble with my first topic.

I found myself agreeing with VIKI from iRobot.

Otherwise I just like Scar, I don't know why.

You believe we should all be locked up for our own good?

Hey! Nice looking first thread :D

That quiz is an asshole and called me Bowser, Robotnik and Sephiroth, whoever those last two are.

But if I had to choose I would probably say Darth Vader, just because.

Rippa Moramee from Halo Wars (The 'Evil' Arbiter)

Because he just wants to kill all the humans. Let me tell you, I can relate.

Okay seriously, I can very much relate to Saren in Mass Effect because he didn't want to help the Reapers destroy all life but rather he was convinced he was helping all life by 'forging an alliance with the Reapers'. That kind of tragic manipulation is something I am familiar with.

Saren was a promising villain that was going places, but he only really appeared sympathetic in about two scenes.

I liked Andrew Ryan. Sure his philosophy was based on the madness of a likewise corrupted Russian witch, but by-God he believed in it and had the charisma to make him likeable.

Vicious from Cowboy Bebop
-Opposes guns for a sword
-Never smiles
-And wants to kill those who "may" pose a threat to him

I believe you should all be locked up for your own good. :p

I can't really remember how it went; I just remember sympathizing with her view and thinking the main characters were just being irrational.

I did enjoy completing Mass Effect but I dont think Saren had much of a belief. It was actually a nice change of pace from most revolutionist bad guys. He was just scared and didnt want the rest of the universe or himself to die.

Pretty much standard Ayn Rand philosophy there.

Personally it would be Moridin from the wheel of time series.

Funny enough the problem with VIKI's ideas was that Humans ARE irrational. You can go on all day that its for their own good and how its for the best but chances are someone out theres not going to like it and try to wreak havoc on said plans.

Well, I guess that's why I sympathize with her. Stupid humans.

I can't think of any villain I sympathize/relate to, but I've always been more positioned to like the anti-heroes better than either good guys or bad guys. Don't save the world cause it's the right thing to do, save it because if the world gets destroyed, then so do you.
Its funny as alot of games set their main characters up as uncaring butt munchs but then right at the end spin it on its head and have them fight out of some form of patriotism or duty or for a love lost. Its weird as the whole "if they die, I die and I like life" is simple and would work really well for most modern game characters.

I have to admit, the idea of a "Big Brother state" has never bothered me to much.

Ozymandias from the Watchmen. It's not so much the fact that he succeeded but it's the way he approached what he did. Firstly, he was doing everything for a reason and took his time. He had no rush. Secondly, and this is the most important, he's not stupid about his plans. He's not idiotic enough to keep a journal about his plans and isn't overheard talking to one of his henchmen about it. He doesn't boast about the plan until after he's already completed it.

I've yet to see that level of sophistication in a video game villain. I haven't played every game of course but the protaganist always finds some way the villain has slipped up and I find that hard to believe.

I think 'The Oracle' from Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy was a good villain because he only attacked you when you were in the way. If he won in the endgame - he didn't kill you because he didn't particulary want to.

Dr. Wallace Breen from Half Life 2.
Easily one of the most human villains you'll see in a game. A guy whose greed and ambition have put him into a difficult position. The puppet ruler of Earth who, for the first time in his 20+ year reign is suddenly on the verge of losing his power (and, most likely, his life) when Gordon Freeman shows up to crash his party. Hence, he panics and does whatever he can to stop Freeman, from trying to have him killed to, eventually, attempting to reason with him. (in his own twisted ideology)
Honestly, I would probably be doing the same thing in his shoes.
