Which was the first game you actually cared about the characters?

What game did you really just gave a shit about the characters or story?
Like sitting there thinking "I have to know what happens!"
For Me I think it was kingdom hearts.
Just the music and the characters/story just worked perfectly for me.

Well when I started playing games I was only like seven or eight so I kind of cared automatically. In that sense, Lara Croft and my character from Pokemon. Later it was the characters of Final Fantasy IX

Recently, I cared about Noble Team, Mass Effect's teams,

I have a tendency to care about any characters in anything I play, watch or read, otherwise I will just stop playing/watching/reading it, and since I do a lot of research into things to see if I will like them or not, I usually care.

Perhaps then the best non-example would be PROTOTYPE. I didn't care at all what was going on there.

As strange as it sounds - it was X-Com for me. Though I can't remember the name of the trooper I really cared at the moment.

i usually care for charachters more often than not...hmm really all games Ive played I care about the charachters and plot I cant really play otherwise, hell even my sociopathic gangsta in Saints row 2

my non-example would be kane and lynch 1, I played it for literaly 5 minutes then I was like..."yeah I dont care about eather of you assholes" I havnt touched it since

Wait a minute! I remember the first character I actually cared about!

It was back in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers! On the last level there was one soldier wearing golden armor... I called him "Kingy"...

I always made it a personal mission to keep him alive and after a while I got genuinely sad if he died...
