That is the greatest idea I have ever heard in my life.

So you are telling me that instead of saying 1.5 centimeters you would rather say 5/8 inchs? The metric system seems a hell of a lot more accurate then the imperial system.

the one good argument you have is cultural differences, but the rest is garbage.
so because you simply disagree with my stance, it's garbage? Well, by that logic, your post is also garbage because I disagree with it. Or are you the king of garbage deciding? 'cause if that's the case, then my humble opinion has no weight in declaring your post garbage and I apologize for making such an egregious accusation.

In my dream world they would take the best parts of metric and imperial and mix them together in a way that works great, but i bet that will never happen.

Can someone please explain to me what Fahrenheit even means? What is it based on?

Yes, there are a number of unusual people on the internet that will defend the metric system as if it were a religion. They will do anything possible to discredit your opinion, to the point of intentionally misunderstanding your post. Out of the 12 that misunderstood you, at least 6 did it on purpose just to try to make you look bad.

We had a thread like this a month or two ago, and I went in and posted that centimeters were too small in comparison to inches, and that I thought it was odd that nobody ever used decimeters for anything. Only instead of specifying that I was in fact talking about decimeters, I just happened to say "the .1 unit", or something to that effect. I also had the same issue with Celsius units covering so much ground that you can have a "hot" or "cold" version of the same value in Celsius. Doesn't happen with Fahrenheit. Well, everyone who responded ignored the whole point and called me a retard for "not knowing that decimeters were between centimeters and meters".

Wow, considering I *specifically* addressed the unit by value and all, I must not have any idea what it is.

TL:DR
:p

Anyway, if it's a closed thread then it was already a retarded topic so why did you even bother posting there? The thread's attracting idiots, obviously those idiots will end up quoting people arguing like we're on a Youtube comments section.

So Don't post in dumb topics.

Point taken, but to be fair, when you look at rulers, they usually go to 1/16ths. As stupid as that sounds, it actually isn't so bad, because such segmentation is easy to understand when you look at it from the perspective of cutting something in half repeatedly. 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16. You can make your own ruler if you just have the length of one inch, or add in your own marks just by eyeballing it. Ever try to divide something into tenths accurately if you needed the millimeters in a centimeter? It's nowhere near as easy.

as the seasoned reader would notice, i did not explicitly take sides; i merely pointed out the flaws of your argument through sarcasm. but, given what you have said thus far in this so called discussion, my attempts at explaining myself are, at best, futile.

i also hear that this sort of behavior is popular among the american midwestern tribes, and is often used as a ritual to seduce the females (preferably under the effects of moonshine).

As much as I love what Fahrenheit does for me in expressing the temperature outside or on my thermostat, it is a fucking crazy system that probably should never have been created. Basically a guy took the temp of a solution he just threw a bunch of shit into and decided to call it his own system. Why on earth we took that as a standard is beyond me. But hey, like I said, I like what it does for me in my day-to-day life.

WOOOOOO HOOOOOO!! dat der iz som mighty fine talkin' skills you have yonder! Now you git yer edumacated brain down on here and see if you can't explain why grandpa Signa can't understand yer word through his drinkin'.

(you're free to go do what you like. I was just calling you out on not leaving a very persuasive argument as to why my post was "garbage". Granted, I think my whining makes it garage, but I wanted to hear why you thought the argument itself was garbage, because I thought I had a decent string of logic going into it, even if it was rather subjective.)

your examples seem silly to me. your thinking that an extra mL more sugar will make a difference to a recipe when you are adding 230 mL? I doubt 4 teaspoons is that acurate either with the sugar being piled on each spoon differently. anyway cooking isnt about following a recipe, its more like art and its the imperfections that make your dish unique.

Celsius makes as much sense as fahrenheit. its a number that allows you to compare it to yesterday or the other days. The advantage of celsius is that 0 and 100 actually have a meaning. water freezing at 0 and boiling at 100. what does 0F mean or 200F mean?

Do you get more meaning from 90F or 35C?

So, since I can't whine and ***** in the thread that this occurred in as it got closed, I'd thought I'd make a new one so I could say my piece. After all 12 people misread what I said, and I'm sure there are others who will try to misread what I say now, so as far as I'm concerned, I've got a new topic and not a rehash of a recently closed one.

Stop bitching about our measuring system. You don't see us complaining about how dumb the size of the units of the metric system measures are.
Interesting- I saw that originally and thought about calling you on it, but I decided to let it slide. Since you seem so adamant that you want to force the issue, well, here's some more food for your thought.

First up, people don't ***** about metric because there's nothing to ***** about. So you think they look dumb with decimals? Then do what any normal person does- round it off. As you say, the units are very small, so it doesn't even matter if you're off by a millilitre or whatever. You won't look like a fool for getting it wrong- you will look like a fool for bitching about it though.

Personally I think some aspects of Imperial are pretty good- Inches, for example, are probably the best day-to day measurement I'd use, but centimetres still do the job just fine.

And if you think some measurements aren't big enough in metric, explain feet. The same distance is given three times the numerical value of it in metres. It doesn't even matter what unit has what number for a given amount. If you're so hung up about saying 250 mililetres, again, you could do something that everyone else does, in this case just say a quarter. When we say the temperature, we don't use decimals either, so your point there is completely moot.

Essentially your predisposition against the metric system seems to stem from the way you believe people use it. A mistaken belief, by the way. The only time we get so exact is when an exact measurement is needed, same with your system. The only difference is we don't use inverted commas everythere to denote a measurement.

I like that I have no idea of how that imperial system thingy works (we don't use it in Sweden), but measure the size of televisions in inches (we call it tum (thumb)).

Well, All I know is that 5,9 feet and 7 inches are my measures of things that need be measured :)

But I understodd what you meant in what you wrote. Guess people were too caught up in the drama to read it carefully.
Nice going making a thread about something you said in another thread. (Y)

PS: Gosh I wish they'd use the metric system in Heavy Rain. All I was thinking was "So when the water rises to approximately less than my penis size, something very bad will happen.
