The regular escapist reviewers.

They seem calm and level headed, giving good amount of information on a game, which is what a review should really do. Give you as much information about a game as they can, and letting the reader/viewer decide for themselves whether to play.

I just always check the individual user reviews on gamefaqs. Of course they're not "professional game reviewers" which might make them less eloquent in their writing they also tend to focus on what really matters in a game; i.e. is it fun.

Gonna check out gametrailers now though, thanx guys :)

I usually check out the TGWTG's staff first, then friends, and maybe a few gamefaqs reviews. I used to trust X-Play but now ...

I liked Steven Grimm when he still worked for Nintendo Power. He and I seemed to have the exact same tastes. But since then, there isn't really anyone I trust 100%. I more or less trust on the overall collective opinion of user reviews. But even if something I was looking forward to gets hated on, I'm going to rent it.

The Escapist
Metacritic
And myself

While i do value other people opinion i will choose my opinion over anyone else's when it comes to things like this.

Hell just look at the reviews for Other M.
G4 Hated it(Big Surprise) while Gametrailers says its a great game.

You gotta look around which is why Metacritic is a great source.

For movies I trust BlueInkAlchemist or Movie Bob when I am on the fence. So far he has only been wrong once with movies I am on the fence about. I know I have to factor my own opinions into both of their opinions, but once I learn what they like in movies it becomes really easy. I see that both of them line up with my thoughts on some movie types while they are opposite me in some areas. Thus I ignore some advice or do the opposite.

Video Games: I trust the Escapist, I have generally been able to tell what I would like or not like from their style.

Books: I trust members of the Escapist, a website full of people who compare books, and the Escapist. I have gotten book help from members here several times and it has worked out every time.

I never really base my purchases off of review scores and the like, but I do usually like to see what Gametrailers and EDGE magazine have to say about a game.

Myself... I rarely just take the opinions of one person... I can't believe I used to watch X-Play...

Honestly, I ask people who I know personally what they thought of it because I can ask them whatever I want to about it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I also read GameInformer but that's mostly for the previews and the fact that it came with an Edge card at GameStop.

Eh, nothing enough to assume I'll always agree. The Escapist staff (Except for Yahtzee or Moviebob) are usually bang on though.
Yahtzee and Moviebob can be entertaining (though Bob has gone pretty downhill lately), but I in no way trust their opinion on anything.
This kinda sum's up my feelings for all the things you said. I pretty much just trust myself when it comes to buying games. The Escapist staff is pretty good though, I watch Yahtzee for laughs and Bob for the movies (though he's gone downhill pretty fast lately).

I trust a couple friends, and I'll look at Metacritic, but that's it as far as games go. Movie-wise, I listen to Ebert, me and him seem to share a fairly equal opinion about what movies are good.

To be honest, I've got to that stage of gaming that I trust my own judgement. I rarely make mistakes these days, but they do happen.

So I don't really 'trust' anyone. I agree with some, disagree with others.

dont trust anyone really, but i listen to alot of opinions, ill go to gamefaqs/gametrailers/gamespot/escapist and check out a quick review here and there and see what they have to say, and im pretty good about knowing what i do and dont like in games (and i know which developers i prefer) so its pretty easy for me to know what i do and dont like

Me, and only me, because literally no one else in the world can have opinions as "crazy" as mine. For example, I thought that Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, Call of Duty 4, and Battlefield Bad Company 2 were all extremely un-enjoyable games. While I think Dynasty Warriors 4 and Samurai Warriors 1 are all extremely fun games.

These days I know what I like, and FAR more important than review scores are the reputations of the developers I'm buying from. If it's from Bethesda, Firaxis, Paradox Interactive, Creative Assembly...you get the idea.

It's not easy to crack that list with me, but when enough of my friends recommend a game to me, I can usually be persuaded to play it and if it's really good it goes on the trusted devs pile (Mount&Blade, for example. Preordered Warband and ended up loving it.)

I have a small but deep collection of great games...and VERY few clunkers.

Mostly, I use Game Informer and Yahtzee in polarity. Gametrailer thrown in here and there. The reason I use GI+Yahtzee is that GI tends to be genrous with their reviews and Yahtzee tends to be overly critical. (Although at times spot on) If you merge those two reviewers, you can usually see what works in a game and what doesn't.
