But why do you need to smack them? There has to be affective alternatives than hitting a kid who probably didn't even know what they were doing is wrong, or at least was dabbling in some prickish mischief.

Not to mention, most people talking about "a quick smack" seem to really mean "beat them within an inch of their life".
Anyone that advocates beating children needs to be shot. Repeatedly.

Like I said, smacking them upside the head and telling them their being stupid when they do something stupid is the fastest way for them to learn. I'm sure there are alternatives to it, and for some people they work, but a lot of the time, they'll smile and nod and agree, but as soon as the parents turn around they're right back to being stupid twats.

Sometimes kids just need a good smack to get their attention. The hit is more for shock value than anything else. Slap em, explain what they did wrong and why it was wrong, and go back about your day.

My generation are a bunch of piss-a$$ babies, pardon my harshness, but it's true. This teenage generation are pot smoking idiots who dont even give a shit about tomorrow, and have no respect for the older generation or themselves. I'm just glad that there are some people in my generation that do care, even if they are only a few.

kids nowadays have a feeling of entitlement. their parents never taught them that the world does not revolve around them.

Someone else who sees it my way. I agree, shock value, that's all it is. I don't remember smacks being painful, I remember the Cat 'n' Nine Tails being painful (rarely got it) and yet, people still complain. Also, parents seem to lack the ability to communicate with their children or just don't communicate on their level. I got a smack, then sent to my room and then I was asked to explain what I did wrong. If I couldn't get it right, then my parents would tell me. 9 times out of 10, I never repeated the same crime ever again.

I don't blame the kids, I blame the adults... ALL of them. Even me in a couple of years. We set awful examples of how to behave, and basically encourage them to follow. Even comments like "men need porn to function" = women are to be objectified, and so that translates to kids wearing slutty clothes at a young age. I think adults should grow up too.

I saw a kindergarten kid walking around with a cell phone. That's a little ridiculous.

Also less stupid, more you shouldn't know about that, but when I was in grade 7, a grade 1 kid ran past me, tripped, almost fell over and yelled "SH*T!". I just kind of stood there blankly.

14 and hating almost everyone in my grade in all the schools around my area. they have tits the size of ticks, and "show them off with extremely low shirts. and the ones with boobs wear shirts that cover up nothing untill about a centimeter before the tit. so to piss them off i take crumpled up paper and throw it in there cleveage. good fun. and yea one of my better friends goes to partys with his older brother(grade 10) and hes been drunk and wasted every time. he gets everything he wants. so do all the girls. fuck 150 dollar shoes and designer clothes. i was at one of there houses for a party and were were all in her room watching a movie on her huge tv, and i saw like 40 ed hardy shirts in the corner of her room.

Both my parents are teachers and they say that one of the major issues they face at school is the lack of appropriate dicipline that they are allowed to administer as a teacher.

To me:
Suspension = Giving kids time off school for being little assholes
Expulsion is not even heard of nowadays because:
1: Schools are fined for resorting to outright expulsion.
2: In order to expel someone you have to have the parents or guardian in to an official meeting on school grounds to inform them of the decision. Until this takes place they can not be officially expelled. Parents in this position simply ignore the school summons and the school can't do anything to force them to come in.

Kids can be removed in other ways such as a managed move. Basicly the school arranges with the local authority to remove a child and place them in another instituion under the local authority. Problem with this is that some schools are incredibly hasty to do this to any child showing the slightest bit of problem, and usually the authority sends all of them to a 'dump school' which is the school with the lowest incoming students, which is usually as a result of the reputation.

In laymans: School branded craphole. Parents don't want to send the kids there. Attendance suffers. Any problem children are moved into the school with the lowest attendance figures. School reputation gets worse.

Teachers are not allowed to deal with trouble makers and instead have to refer it to appointed behavior managers. These individuals in my experience coddle the little buggers and treat them like little princes/princesses in order to make them feel accepted in the classroom environment. Little Jonny or Jane nods emphatically, as they set off the fire extinguishers for the umpteenth time...

Parental dicipline is up shit creek too. Parents are either too lazy or to scared to dicipline the kids now that the kids have no concept of right and wrong. I have seen an 8 year old child walking round the streets with a hatchet, taking lumps out of cars and fences. When someone asked what the hell he was doing, he said he was bored...

My mom didn't put up with bratty behavior...
And I love her for it.

Really, though, there's something wrong when "extraordinarily gifted" children say they don't like someone because they use big words.

Heres a fun game to play (introduced to me by my female friend in year 12)

She sits on the bus. Skanky mc-hoeho sits across her talking to her friend. C cup tits at 14 or something and showing them off with a VERY low cut top.
My friend STARES at them.
The girl whispers with her friend... her shirt goes up a little bit.
My friend continues to STARE
They whisper again... it goes up a little more
once again... STARE
... up a little more to cover the boobage to a decent level.
my friend looks away. Mission accomplished

The two girls sitting opposite my friend leave the bus and as they are leaving comments "perv..."

This would be a very fun game to play, however at the last 'goodbye' should the person comment on your perving, you comment on their ultra-slutty appearance, tip your (imaginary?) hat, and ignore them. They can't argue the fact they look like a slut... or that you were staring at their tits. THEY WERE RIGHT THERE INFRONT OF YOU what were you going to do? NOT stare at what the girl was obviously SO proud of? that would be an insult to her! "OMG I'm getting NO attention!... better slut up a bit more"
Granted you can't argue that you got a good perve out of it... but hey, whatever who cares! you got a good look at a pair of tits, and you potentialy stopped the girl from getting raped! (should she have learned her lesson and decided then on to be less... 'glass store front window' with her good on display that is)
Yeap, that strange duality: I'm proud of what I have and like to show it off, but if I get attention because of it they're pervs. I wonder though, did he stare at the boobs or at her? Did he frown? I would frown, and keep staring, switching between her boobs and her face, sometimes making the "tsk tsk tsk" head movement, but no sound.
I've actually done that before. I was on a Marta tram in Georgia with some cheeky teenage girl in the row across from me. Showing off her more distinguishing features with inappropriately revealing clothing. I casually look up from my book (as I'm always reading some novel or another when I'm taking public transports), and stare. I look from her chest, to her face, to her chest, to her skirt, to her chest, to her face. She pulls at her unsurprisingly lacking amounts of cloth in order to cover herself. A disappointed frown and an audible 'tsk tsk tsk' come from me before I return to my book. As she walks by to get off, she comments on my being perverted. I look up and say, "Oh, I assumed you wanted people to look at you, seeing as you've gone through all that trouble to show yourself off. Most folks actually have a sense of decency." I then tip my hat and return to my book without another word, my face entirely deadpan serious.

It's not a zero sum game. One step foreward does not require another step backward.

There should be a quote from melzigurl above that... but forum noob (me) doesn't know how to put it in an edit.
