I think they realised they've written themselves into a corner of mysterious epic-ness

They have no idea what to do, nor how to explain the unanswered questions like Who Is G-Man Anyway
G-Man:Gordon I am your father. or. G-Man:Gordon I am you from future.

I played HL2 ep 2 and finished it AGES ago, valve keep releasing L4D stuff but somehow they have forgotten that were waiting solemnly for an ending to what is likely their greatest game ever? neway post any news youve heard or opinions etc below.
You know how much the do with 100 people in that office? Apparently not, otherwise you would laugh at the idea someone should be frustrated. There is plenty other Valve products with the same quality that you can go play with. look at Valve's track record, amazing games every few years, I would surely give another 5 years to EP 3 if it meant that Valve gave it the polish they give to everything else they spend time on.

I know, im a huge valve fanboy, i like most of their stuff. but i mean seriously L4D2 is of less importance than HL2 EP3, theyd only JUST released a patch for a new camp a few months before the 2nd one came out. thats kinda time wasted why not just wait till the 2nd one comes out and put those resources into HL2 EP3, i get that theyre small, but still this should be a priority given how loved it is and how much of a cliffhanger they ended the 2nd ep on, not really fair to the fans to just leave us hanging like this.

Me.

It's been over 3 years now and we havn't got so much as a trailer? ValVe, there is no excuse for taking that long for a game that will probably only last 5 fucking hours!

I hope to god this thing is longer, like 15 hours longer. It would explain what the hell ValVe has been doing, at least a bit.

Valve has to meet unrealistic expectations with Episode 3. People want the game to be incredible, so they are spending a lot of time creating it. But now everyone is whining for them to release the damn thing. Will you guys just make up your minds?
Totally agree with you, if you reed "raising the bar" (art book telling the process from before HL1 all the way to HL2, including things like counter strike, day of defeat, etc) you would get a better idea of the mind set valve was in on before releasing HL2 being that HL1 blew so many´s peoples minds back in the day...

Imagine having to give the franchise a conclusion (they said they were going to, ¿didn't they?), the climax and the conclusion of the story has to be enough NOT to having us wanting for more.

Maybe they wanna take the time to make it wright. It´s kinda like starcraft 2, except valve dont´t pretend it's ok just because they release a couple of videos...

Me? I can wait years without it. I know that it will come eventually, and it will be all the better for it.
Yeah... HL has a little more credibility than Duke Nukem.

I wouldn't be surprised if it takes another 5 years and along the way they extend that because they suddenly realized the source engine is very old.

I believe Valve said that Episode 3 will be the conclusion to the Half-Life 2 saga, but not the end of the entire Half-Life franchise.

Waiting for Starcraft 2 is a lot harder for me than Episode 3 simply becuase I've seen the game play videos. Makes me want the game much more, which is why I'm glad Valve hasn't been showing videos of Episode 3.

I imagine it will be long than the other episodes as they have to create a satisfying conclusion to the Half-Life 2 saga. Plus they have some really high expectations to meet.

For a bunch of developers as talented as Valve I dont think there is any excuse for the time gap between the Episodes.

Lets face it, the story must have been finalised years ago and the engine is already there, does it really take so many years to put the 2 together in such a way to make a sub-10 hour game?
Have you heard Valve's reputation? Do you know how long there was between Half Life 1 and 2? Here's the deal with Valve: long wait times, amazing games. Just how it works.
You cant compare the wait from the 1st game to the 2nd, thats ridiculous. As I said, they have all the engine tech already, they have the story already, they just need to wrap it up and THAT SHOULDN'T TAKE MORE THAN 2 YEARS.

EDIT: And this isn't just because this is Valve. Any developer who takes 2+ years to release what is essential is an expansion pack must be prepared to take some flack.

EDIT AGAIN! And it's hardly as if they cant make a great game in a short time frame, look at L4D2...
Fair enough, they have the engine, so the comparison was not very apt, but the point about their reputation still stands. Want a learning experience? Watch their commentary on Episodes 1 and 2, see how much thought they put into things we don't even consciously think about. They probably don't have to agonize over every little detail like that, but it just feels right somehow.

Well they tried to pioneer the idea of Episodic content then shot it dead. But I still want this game no matter what. The wait just makes it all the juiceyer.

This is also true, the level design is incredible even without the commentary, and when you listen to it, you notice all these other things most people wouldn't notice. But the other point is also valid, this is their flagship title and most of the tech and story to make it are already there.

I'm patiently waiting its arrival, but am not particularly bothered by the wait
Same here, I find consolation in the fact that the wait means that they're putting a lot of work into making it good.
