For The Emprah! When you can snap Titans with your mind, and fire psychic bolts the strength of entire ship batteries, bind a God of old to your neighbouring planet just so its manic screams will inspire a whole culture of technology, create a race of superheroic Space Marines of absolute GAR! and get with all the women, you have proven yourself to be above all other contenders to the Throne.
Wait, it was the Emperor who bound the C'tan to Mars? I've not kept track of 40k for a few years now so guess I missed out on that revelation (always wanted to know how that came about...).

Also all of the non-40k characters in this thread (and a few of the 40k ones too) would be killed by a single bolter shot, making them somewhat crappy space marines.
One armour piercing explosive round of ridiculous caliber later and Samus / Master chief would be minus a large portion of their body which would have been forcefully introduced to the outside world.

I'm not saying this to start a flame war or piss of a bunch of Halo fans but, to me at least, Sergeant Johnson (from Halo) seems almost n exact rip-off of Sergeant Apone (from Aliens). Both men look the same, have the same attitude, sound very similar and smoke cigars they same way.
Also, I believe, that in the book 'Starship Troopers' the Mobile Infantry was actually part of the Space Army (nitpicking I know).
To answer the question though, I'd say it's a toss up between Private Hudson from Aliens (he was state of the bad-ass art after all) and Garroway ,I can't remember his first name or rank from first two books of the Legacy trilogy (Star Corps and Battle Space)

Replace "Sergeant Apone" with 'any generic black sergeant / drill instructor etc'.

Part of me wants to answer your question, another part doesn't want to spoil it for you and anyone else who might read it.
And as for every non-40K person dying... that is almost true.
as SPESS MEHRENS.. *Ahem* Space Marines go, the original Johnny Rico, in the book by Robert Heinlein (Who invented the concept of SPESS.. *Ahem* Space Marines), wears power armor.
that is the only exception I can think of when it comes to Bolter Fatalities in non-40K Space Marines.

Where was the expansion of the whole C'tan on Mars thing published? I feel the need to go read it as the Necron Codex always left me wanting to know more.

It also depends on the type of 'power armour' as strictly speaking Master Chief wears some form of it, and yet considering the amount of damage he takes from regular bullets, a bolter shell would rip him to red gooey chunks. But that's getting into the realms of comparing the technologies of two completely different sci-fi's, which borders dangerously on 'retarded argument' territory.

You can find it in the Horus Heresy book Mechanicum.

And the power armor from Starship Troopers (Book) makes them more like walking tanks with lasers and nukes and such.
kinda like a space marine in some respects.

Bah, now I have to go spend ~£30 on a book. Thanks though, I do love my fluff.

You risk bringing mechs into it with that though, which opens a whole new geeky door!

And if anyone mentions Master Chief, then they should go to the lowest level of Hell.

MASTER CHIEF is very average
Fixed it for you. Not that I'm hating on Halo (own 1-3, ODST is a waste of money due to length), but he's really not special at all.

Does Gordon Freeman count? I mean, he is killing aliens, they just happen to be on Earth. If not, I'd say Doom guy.
I don't think he qualifies, he has an identity.

Oh wait, he is in power armour.
I guess so then.

£30?!! Where in Holy Terra do you buy it for that much?!!
It costs £6.99 at waterstones.
Keep in mind, this is the Horus Heresy Series of books, not the Collected Visions Art Book.
although there is a story in that £30 book that directly ties into Mechanicum. it is a good book.
But for what you asked, you just want Mechanicum.

Woops sorry, I was indeed thinking of the great big book with all the fancy artwork and whatnot.
£6.99 seems a bit more reasonable! Although I have always wanted that expensive one...

Damn you GW, I thought I'd escaped your horrible drain on finances. Almost makes me want to dust off my Cadians/Relictors.

Being a big Star Wars fan I might was going to go with Boba Fett but then I read the discussion about Samus on page 1 and hes a bounty hunter too so I guess he doesn't count well he sort of counts hes involved with the Mandalore Warriors I think they count as a space millitary

The Emperor isn't a Space Marine! He's the guy that MADE the Space Marines!

I'm gonna have to go with Leman Russ. When the going gets tough, the tough pack up as many bolter shells as they can and were last seen hurtling to another dimension to slaughter demons "because it sounds like fun". Oh yeah! Becoming a space marine werewolf on the way.

Yet neither is Leman Russ.
Touche. Fuck it, I'll go for Bjorn the Fell Handed. A Space Wolf so hard, a minor case of death didn't stop him!
