Paul Verhoeven.

Sex, tits, explosions, lots of blood and gore... basically everything that makes a great film great.

Fav film of all-time-- Robocop.

Even though his films are disguised as trashy Hollywood films, many of them like Robocop and Starship Troopers are a lot deeper and political than people often think.

I wonder when he's going to make another film.

Tough question, but at the top of my mind I'd say Hayao Miyazaki, not one of his movies, that I've seen, have been average or bad.

Jean Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, Alien Resurrection, Amelie, A Very Long Engagement). Absolutely love his visual style, sure, he's not exactly subtle but he's creative, inventive and always interesting to watch.

Honourable mention to Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire, etc). Another brilliant visual stylist, but equally brilliant in the audio department, Sunshine has possibly the best soundtrack ever, IMO, and Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting were good in that respect too.

Baz Lurhman (I'm willing to forget Australia) or Time Burton. I think Tim Burton might just win for being married to Helena Bonham-Carter(hawt).
Really? Baz Lurhman? I'm more than willing to forget most of what he did. *cough* Romeo and Juliet *cough* Tim Burton is high on my list (Edward Scissorhands was amazing) but I gotta go with Darren Aronfsky, partially because I love Clint Mansell though (wrote the score for all of Aronfsky's music).

Chan Wook Park who directed Old Boy, Sympathy for Lady/Mr Vengeance, Thirst, I'm a Cyborg But That's Ok etc. I love his style and I've loved every single film he's made! He's so cynical but his films make me smile all the same haha

I absolutely hate Tim Burton XD Edward Scissorhand and Sleepy Hollow are his only decent films in my opinion. I watch all his films though, just because I know that his style should appeal to me

I'm also partial to a bit of Tarantino and the Coen Brothers ;D

I would have thought so. He directed Serenity, which was a feature film.

Apart from him, I like J.J. Abrams.

Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp have both impressed me (Jackson with the incredible LOTR trilogy and Blokamp with his work on Halo landfall along with according to what i`ve heard district 9)

EDIT:Stanley Kubrick definatly deserves a mention here

Tim Burton didn't direct The Nightmare Before Christmas. That is why it worked and The Corpse Bride did not.

Quentin Tarantino, the man has not made a bad movie.
I haven't seen it, but I heard Deathproof wasn't very good. What did you think of it? I like everything I've seen from Tarantino so far, but there's still more I have to get my hands on.

As for me, I like a lot of the Coen Brother's movies, David Fincher, Terry Gilliam, and Tim Burton's older movies - recently he's done very little that I liked.

P.T. Anderson has made some amazing films in his career (Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love) otherwise I am also a big fan of the Coen Brothers.
