It's easier because we still haven't fully understood what the brain is capable of and how it works. We know how machines work though so it's easier to create a machine to simulate madness than to cut open a guy's head and make him mad.

Thanks for clearing it up. Props where props are due, it's an intersting study especially for those of us with paranoid schizophrenia (such as me ) but it kinda paints the picture that were unstable, immediately and constantly making fantastical claims which isn't the case in most stories.

You talk about it as if this simulation is capable of coginitive thought and emotion.

If you design a robot to walk, it wouldn't get up and start trying to kick everyone to death, unless it had been programmed that way.

As long as techsperts don't get to ahead of themselves and create true AI before we understand fully nerological processes (which i doubt is even possible) then we should be able to safely predict if a machine is going to go crazy and destroy it before it can ^_^.

Making a computer crazy is exactly as dangerous as making a person crazy. I'm pretty sure they didn't also attach guns to it or give it a button that would launch all the nukes in the world. With all of the examples you're talking about they actually gave them tools that could be dangerous. There's absolutely no danger at all.
