Who would make the best Riddler?

That being said, I trust the studio to make their own choice using the mutant superbrains they had for the first two films, and argue who would work for the sake of fun only, hoping they never make the Epic Fail of listening to the fans and accommodating net-goer wishes.

And yes, never do anything for the fans specifically... Fans are crazy deranged dipshits who think they know better than the people who made the series they love, which is usually only true for Star Wars fans since George Lucas is a gigantic moneygrubbing dickhole. But this isn't Lucasarts, it's the team that brought us Batman Beguins and The Dark Knight. Go Nolan!

Much as I would hate to see Riddler in the new movie (too goofy, same thing with The Penguin), if I had to choose somebody to play him I would pick....

Then uhhh....Don't post? I don't know how old or devoted a fan you are, but I'm young and never had the opportunity to really talk about most of the movies. This is the first batman series to come out during a time when I could understand what was happening. Its important to me because of that.

So if you went and watched the first 4 Batman films (5 if you count the Adam West TV series movie), you're telling me you wouldn't understand it because of your age. Seriously?

I've obviously misread the generation below me (I'm 24 btw and enjoyed Batman since I was a kid from the camp Adam West TV series, up until the Mr. Freeze film) and thought you'd be able to at least watch a film or two from a decade ago without having to have it mushed up with some 2008 cgi and spoon-fed to you because your eyes and brain couldn't possibly process that non-HD look.

If your sick of it because you've seen this several times regarding the previous batman movies, then don't post. It doesn't give you the right to ruin it for everyone else because you have a different opinion.

Actually, as an old fan of the franchise, it does give me the right. Don't spit out your dummy because I didn't agree with you. This is a discussion, not a "friends forever follow me if you agree" thread. I hardly think I've just spoiled anyone's Batman 2008 experience whilst stating my opinion on the matter.

I still vouch that Carey could pull it off but, shave the tasche off of Jason Lee's face and he'd play the shit out of The Riddler. Happy now young 'un?

If you don't like hearing about the new batman movie then don't get involved. I myself love it and am eagerly looking forward to it. What I said in my last post wasnt right, you are entitled to your opinion but this thread wasn't intended to be about whether the series should have been produced or not.

And to clarify, No, I can now understand the older batman movies, but at the time I was too young and wasnt able to partake in watching the comic books come to life. Its nice to be able to enjoy it now.

Simon Pegg (Shawn of the Dead) maybe? He can do crazy and he can do intense, and I'm pretty sure he can carry off smart... I haven't seen him do a really dramatic part, or do creepy, yet.

Have you seen him in Black Books? He's Manny's boss in the 1st ep of the 3rd season. A bit creepy and manic in parts. He can be dramatic in Spaced, just not all the time.

I'm not having a go at you dude, don't worry.

It's no secret I dislike the trendy sequel fad but I've obviously been a fan at least once upon a time and this gives me just as much right to voice my option (positive or negative) on the matter. I didn't just turn up and offer an ignorant "This is shit!". I feel the first 3 already 'come to life' as you put it, there's no need to re-tread old ground (IMO).

I even made a second suggestion after being drawn back in by you, Jason Lee.

Hugh Laurie already has a real accent to match the Riddlers and the way that he delivers lines fits perfectly into the Riddler's character.

I don't know-- I really can't, in good conscience, commend Gregory House for the Riddler. No doubt, it'd be the most hard ex core, bad ass casting ever to grace the soggy marsh of The Dark Knight but Hugh Laruie's already been iron cast into the image of a sarcastic and internally suffering genius doctor... as a riddler in a Nolan-esque batman world, I'm afraid that won't fly.

He can play mentally unstable in a way that I think is fitting for the new Batman films =)

You will all call me an idiot probably, but I honestly feel like Jack Black could drop the weight like he did in Envy (he can get skinny) and take the role seriously enough to make a great Riddler.

Before you bash me, imagine JB in a role where he ISN'T playing his typecast character, but instead is just an outer shell for an insane personality like the Riddler. He's got the face for sure.

I just had an insight...

Joe Pileggi, better known as Assistant Director Walter Skinner of the X-Files. He has the height, the look, the serious demeanor... He can act very well, and he's not someone would picture when they think of the Riddler, yet once you connect the dots he's almost perfect.

Mitch Pileggi you mean. (X-Files geek ahoy) That's quite a good call. He was great in the X-Files and would pull this off well.

- John Glover (although he may be a little old for the part, but I still think he could pull it off)

Johnny Depp would do the job well enough I think, but the two above would be perfect.

I would love to see what Hopkins did with the Riddler. Ledger took the Joker in a unique direction that made it so special, Hopkins i think could put a very cool twist on the Riddler that would make him so much more dark, and so much more psychological than the Joker.

Sure, you could have a non-ham version of Carey... but why not try something new? Toss an experienced head-twister into the ring and give him some brains to play with. I think Hopkins both looks and plays the perfect part.

Hugh Laurie would do well, but i feel like he'd just be house with a costume...I mean, half of house is Laurie messing with the heads of his colleagues for his own pleasure, so i feel like that's all i'd see his riddler as. The only difference would be that he wouldn't limp

If Gary Oldman wasn't already playing Gordon I would say that he could pull it off as well.
