Who would want to invade USA?

I don't think anybody would want to take America per se. A number of grudge-holding nations would want to burn it to the ground, sure, but I don't think any country would consider it worth shooting their way through every arms-wielding patriot for a country up to its eyeballs in debt. The most valuable commodity America possesses is probably their corporations, and as all the biggest ones are multinational, they can't really be considered to "belong" to America. Canada has a ridiculously small military, yet we haven't been invaded in centuries. Our international relations are a stronger presence than any military we could throw a budget away on. America's relations... aren't quite as good. I still seriously doubt the entire UN would turn a blind eye to it (there are still a few countries your government hasn't pissed off yet), so I'm pretty sure nothing would happen.

America does have the largest amount of coal in the world, plus we have a seriously big natural gas reserve.

There are many different reasons for hatred of U.S., almost all of them referring to American foreign policy. As a super power with a large and influential economy the United States finds that it has a vested interest in the affairs of foreign countries. This started with the Cold War and has continued ever since. In the case of Osama Bin Laden his primary reason for hating the United States is that we maintain bases in Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries. Another reason is our support for Israel.

In Europe hatred of the U.S. stems from unilateral action and, of-course, support for Israel. This dislike of all things American is also cultivated as a way of unifying more Europeans together by turning them against the U.S.. It is a good strategy. The world over governments have used foreign countries as scape-goats to turn people away from domestic issues and abuses.

In South America the U.S. is unpopular due to a long history of interventionism, often against democratically elected governments, throughout the Cold War.

All that said, I don't think anybody would ever want to invade the United States unless they were crazy. Much like Russia the U.S. is a huge area of land to cover. It would be impossible to occupy it. On top of that you have population prone to patriotic frenzy and even worse many of them are armed. However bad an insurgency might be in Iraq or Afghanistan it would be even worse in the continental United States. Not to mention that just getting enough military personnel overseas to conduct the invasion would itself be a tremendously costly and difficult endeavor.

To answer your final question, I'm guessing the reason some people don't like America is our perceived arrogance. To them, we often act like everyone else is beneath us just because we're a major world power. We throw our weight around in the world, and when we knock something over, we often refuse to take the blame.
Can any non-Americans confirm this?

Edit: I'm not answering your actual question because clearly you haven't played Freedom Fighters.
No offense but Americans DO act arrogant. Just stating the obvious. Don't hate on me.

AUSTRALIA FTW.

Nah just kidding.

No one wants USA, they have asstons of debt, not many natural resources, and really fucking batshit insane people. No one wants it.
You know... you're right!
There is hardly any benefit for taking the US, and even if you did it would cost you an ass-load of money. There would be little or no profit.

Plus, who wants a nation of problems?

The only two reasons I don't think we (Canada) would take over the US is cause we already have a lot on your plates (no offense to people in Iraq/Iran/etc.) and cause converting the American currency to Canadian would destroy the Loonie's worth :)
In response to the first post (105 back) yeah, you hit the bull's eye on the stereotype board...

Ah crap, I'm almost out of oil. Looks like I'll have to get mom to fill up the computer again. It's right on time though, cause I have to go participate in my coming of age rite where I wrestle a live polar bear and drink it's blood so I'm infused with the power of my ancestors. See ya!

I would guess Mexico might take a few of the south eastern states back, i doubt Canada will do anything. If i was head of the British army however i would send in the SAS and the Royal Engineers to nick the stuff that the Americans have in Area 51 or indeed any of its bases before the Mexicans can get at it. Then we will have a load of new toys to play with on Salisbury plain! :p

Canadia. Obviously. They were founded on hating America. They have been planning this invasion for years. They have a secret army of super soldiers and killbots, why would they not invade?

Perceived American imperialism, the Project for the New American century, the USAs interference in foreign affairs for its own ends, and the insistence that it can own more weapons of mass destruction than the world combined but everyone else needs to be bombed into the stone age if it tries to own its own.

I think people around the world need to be more careful what they wish for. The US is probably the most benign superpower in history. Of course they're not perfect but who else would you rather have in that position? What if nobody took responsibility (which is what this is really about, having values, sticking by them and taking responsibility). Would we just hope that everything turn out alright by itself? Not so sure guys. I have a feeling we might in our lifetime see an entirely different global sentiment towards the US, once China starts raising it's voice at the table.

Just sayin'

I'm stealing that for my comedy act. Genius. Ten stars for satirical value.

You're assuming the terrorists think like you. They don't. It's a whole different culture.

Even if the US just gave up military wise, we'd still be backed up (believe it or not) by other countries.
Since the US does have a massive debt to other countries, we would be aided by them in our time of need in hopes that we would pay them off. This is not my thoughts, but rather the thoughts of my prof in college.

Also, I would feel bad if another country tried to invade the South. My 87 year old grandpa owes a gun, and can use it very well. <- this is a joke, so there's no misquotes and ridiculous argument.

China would take our country. unless the rest of the UN stopped them which is very likely Iran does not have the military strength to control our civilian population. I dont know about Russia. our Best allies would be Britain and Australia and maybe Canada and Mexico even without our military conquering the Us would be difficult
Hehehe, I find this amusing. You think Australia would be able to help. Hahahaha. Mate, I'm joining the Australian Army and I can tell you this much right now. If we had to come save the yanks from the chinks, I seriously doubt we could do more than absorb some of the gunfire. Actually...when we've fought wars in the past we've pretty much done just that...why do you think we hate the British so much now? Seriously, it would take about 10% of our Navy to crew the U.S.S Enterprise CVN-65, no, not the battle-group as a whole, just that one ship. Think about that for a second. There is maybe, oh, 180,000 people full time in the Australain Defence Force. Add the Reservists and you may be lucky to hit 250,000. This is in a country of 22 Million People. We're small. But we are well trained.

In answer to OP's questions:

Who would try to take over the US? Could they?
China. Yes.
India. Yes.
Russia. Probably.
Canada. Maybe.
Mexico. Try and Fail.

(This is Assuming you dissolved the entire US Military and the country was there)

Why does the Taliban/Al Queda/Terrorist want to bomb the US anyway? It's not really efficient and they don't get anything out of it.
Because they want to scare people. They want the US to repent, move to Sharia law and stick all the Women back in the kitchens making Delicious Sammiches.

Would Iran just send over a few troops and claim the US as their own?
Iran has motive, but not much force projection power. Considering the dangers of the region, they would not realistically be able to project a large enough force, that far away, unless they slackened their own home front. Which means that some other country near them would rape them.

I can only imagine China and Russia possibly sending over forces, everyone else would be a small fry.
You forgot India, bigger than either China or Russia.

There must be a reason for the source of aggression against the US today and it has nothing to do with wanting their resources right?
Yeah, international heroism is fine. But it's kind of hard to root for the US when the enemy is 150 years behind you technologically and is hunkered in a ditch throwing jagged rocks. You have a tendency to get involved in Wars that were not required (Korea, Vietnam) and start ones that equally need not be started (Iraq, Afghanistan) and even start wars with no enemy, and no clear target (The war on Terrorism).

Probably Canada since they are pretty close a mirror image of the USA culture, a good friend of the USA, and very close the USA. Also more civilized than Mexico.
excuse me???

could you elaborate on that, what do you mean by "more civilized"??? please i am intriged
Canada is a high income developed nation. Mexico is middle income at best and still a developing nation. Perhaps civilized was a bit harsh of a term. I was just referring that Canada would have a much easier time taking control of the American culture.
oh, well yeah, then you are absolutely right

hehe, funny thought, i love the image everyone haves of us riding horses to work and wearing big sombreros and colorfull ponchos (like in speedy Gonzales) but we are not that under develloped

me?? i am proudly midle high class, and consider my self a very civilized people, but unfortunately most people here in MX is midle low class, so yeah, i see your point

we're in a very good place strategically. the only way to get at us is through wither canada or south america, and neither have much of a standing military population or the resources that would be required to be able to support an army. its wouldnt be all that difficult to conquer one of these areas as a staging ground for an assault on the states, but the trouble would come around lunch time. we're just lucky to be right where we are
