Bay. Completely overfunded Hollywood trash. AND WHAT THE HELL WAS WITH THE BLACK ROBOTS?!

Man, enough with the Boll hatred! Yes, Bloodrayne was shit on toast. But did any of you watch Postal? That film made me weep tears of joy (except the naked Dave Foley part, which made me vomit in disgust). Also, compared with other school-shooting themed movies like "Elephant", Boll's "Heart of America" was tolerable (TOLERABLE, not necessarily good).

I liked Independence Day and Stargate, which are the only movies of Emmerich's I've seen. The first Transformers movie is one of my favorite movies of all time. I know people complain about the story, but it was exactly what I was expecting and wanting from a Transformers movie. It had giant robots, amazing special effects, lots of explosions (Michael Bay's specialty), and the original voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Transformers 2, on the other hand, was a movie that I tried to like, but really was terrible. Instead of going with the same formula as the first movie, the second one was plagued with unnecessary sexual humor, leg humping, and the exploitation of Megan Fox. Also, while the first movie had Jazz (an awesome black Autobot), the second movie had Skids and Mudflap (two retarded black Autobots that screamed "MICHAEL BAY IS RACIST!"). Seriously, after raping the second movie, I'm going to say Michael Bay is worse than Roland Emmerich. And guess what? He's going to make a THIRD one! If he puts Unicron in the movie and screws it up again, I will set fire to his house!

Well, not really. I'm not that big of a jerk, but I would be upset enough to do it.

im surprised noone has mentioned Paul W. S. Anderson, now he has made some truely terrible movies, mortal kombat, AvP, and of course Resident Evil.

AvP had one of the best concepts for a scifi movie ever on paper as the games had proven, but this guy made a total **** of it.

Bay. Not because of the popularity that Bay has for basically showing his balls to everyone's faces in Transformers 2, but his filming style which is "What not to do" in film classes.

Perhaps Bay can sod off and do cartoonish violence for kids on television shows.

Emmerich is okay in my book. At least he's got a passion for making viewers look at the destruction on why it really matters.

Bay is worse.

Even Emmerich's worst films aren't aggressively stupid, and can enjoyed for what they are.

I really liked 2012, best CGI fest (aside from Avatar).

I haven't seen a Bay film that I have enjoyed, but I am told I should check out The Island, we shall see.
The Island actually wasn't bad, I have to give it to Bay on that one.

Pre-Transformers, I might have said they were about equal, but cannot in good consciousness do so now, so my vote goes with Bay. Despite this, they both make loud, stupid films and so the distinction between them is razor-thin, at best.

And for people on here saying Independence Day was good, look deep down in your hearts and answer me this: do you think it is good because you liked it when you were twelve? Is nostalgia clouding your otherwise impeccable judgment? If it is not, then congrats. You're a horrible person for trying to convince others it was a good film, because it really is not.
That's pretty much exactly how I see it. I remember rushing out and getting ID4 on video as soon as it became available. Now I get embarrassed whenever I see that I still own the damn thing.

That said though, I don't think Emmerich should get off so lightly. Consider how in ID4 it was meant to be a worldwide invasion, but the only time the camera ever sets foot outside the USA is to show the mere aftermath of battles, or better yet all kinds of nationalities praising the Americans for announcing they have a plan. This would be excusable if the budget couldn't allow decent overseas looking stuff, but that isn't the case here.

This gets taken to an extreme in The Day After Tomorrow, and it killed the movie for me. I found it downright insulting that every single nation that resides below New York's latitude was branded a third world nation, and the remark was merely nodded at by all those watching the TV. This catastrophe for some reason only takes place in the northern hemisphere which seems odd as the Antarctic is a bit more unstable, the event once again is only seem in America, except for Some guys in Scotland, and didn't they toast to England at one point? Does anyone find that a little strange?

So yeah, like chewy said, it's a pretty thin distinction.

What, you didn't like Armageddon? Sure you can act all pompous and say their terrible films, but when you need a good sit down to think about nothing, bay's your man.
Yeah I enjoyed Armageddon, mostly because of Willis, but it was pretty forgettable. I will say though that it was ten MILLION times better than Deep Impact, which came out about the same time.

I really thought Bay was expanding his horizons with that one. It was really well done... until they escape halfway through. Then it devolves into standard Bay chase fare and pretty much leaves all compelling interests behind. A real pity, too.

At least Emmerich has made reasonable movies and has paved the way for Stargate SG-1. All Bay did was give us Bad Boys 2 and that's that ...

it´s like choosing between pestilence and cholera. at least emmerich admits his films are mindless shit, while bay seems to think he´s the coolest dude on the planet. so bay wins for being the bigger moron.

It's like asking me to choose between liver cancer and lung cancer. Both are fatal and both will give you a bleak outlook on life.

Michael Bay by far. He embodies everything that's wrong with Hollywood today.

Also, wouldn't a poll be useful on this?

Uwe Boll is the worst director ever, there I said it.
Clearly you have never watched Postal. Go and watch Postal and then try and say your previous statement with a straight face.

As for the two directors whom the topic regards, I'd say they're on about even ground. Sure, Michael Bay might have done Transformers 2, Pearl Harbor and The Island, but I genuinely enjoy his 90's movies. Partially because they were for the most part, well written.

And i think you're all forgetting Emmerich's track record.... The Day After Tomorrow with its preachy stupid bullshit. 10000 BC with it's attempted modern Robert Zemeckis-isms, except not nearly as entertaining. Godzilla with it's.... it's being an abortion. And 2012, while it was definitely better than it had any right to be was still only mediocre.

In short, Bays best is better than Emmerich's best. However, Emmerich's worst ranges from mediocre to plain old wastes of time whereas Michael Bay's worst is 100% nuclear rage-inducing.
