Storm. Why? Because she is hil-arious in the films.

I liked how First Class gave a lot more backstory and exposure of the reasons and relationships between Hank McCoy and Raven Darkholme (Beast and Mystique for you few non-geeks out there), as well as Xavier and Lensherr (Professor X and Magneto). However, on the whole, patly from the films and partly from the animated series X-Men Evolution, I have to say my favourite overall is Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat), while Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) gets an honourable mention, because he's simply awesome. And he's Azazel's son too, apparently, which makes him all the more cool...

Banshee was my favorite from First Class. He just seemed so badass to me. From my minimal knowledge of the comics, I'd say either Quicksilver or Beast

Is this topic really gonna get any other answers except for Wolverine and Gambit?A little pointless thread there, man.
I like Cyclops. He's the only one who really seems to think like an actual responsible human being most of the time.
Agreed. Cyclops has the problem of being written by writers who don't like the character. Which isn't surprising, since most X-Men writers are Wolverine fanboys (*gag*). Cyclops is to the X-Men what Captain America is to the Avengers. The moral compass. The idealist. The one who believes in doing the right thing for the right reasons. The X-books are full of characters who do the right thing for the wrong reasons, or just do the right thing because they have nothing better to do. It's refreshing to see characters like Cyclops and Colossus who are real heroes.

Gambit

Just his methods really. And the confident, smart ass attitude.
That, and I prefer polearms and throwing knives in close combat (ignoring for a moment the practicality of a gun). Making Playing Cards explode has to be one of the most awesome concepts ever.

Apocalypse. Not only is he an awesome villain, but he's thousands of years old, was a Pharaoh, a Chinese Emperor, a Maya God, and would have been ruler of all reality if, of course, the X-Men hadn't stopped him like a lot. You just gotta love people who get up every time they get beaten down.

Cannonball. No reason, other than HE'S AWESOME!
Seriously, the man fought against the Marvel version of SUPERMAN and won!(I think, at least a tie)
Awesome, I just re-read the issue where Cannonball fights Gladiator the other day! Also, there is still some debate as to whether Cannonball is an External (immortal mutant) or not.

I also liked Iceman a lot, in the 90s they started powering him up until he was almost godlike.

And if Guthrie was an External, that would just up his awesome factor!

Very true. Pity it didn't work for his little brother Icarus who got shot in the head by Stryker. Oh well, I didn't like him much anyhow.

Deadpool isn't a member of the X-Men, though. He tried, but Cyclops said flat-out "No.".

i actually do not like any of the xmen outside of Domino (not in the movies)
but the lesser known mutants are the best.
Deadpool (not really a mutant people...)
Domino
agent-x (also not a mutant)
taskmaster
Crazy Inez and that other chick that hangs out with above people
and if i had to choose it would be mystique and movie wolverine (i say movie logan because he's an annoying douche in the comics)

really i dont like the xmen because they really are just an excuse to add characters in the marvel universe with little backstory, that and it's too easy to write one and mos dont really have personalities out side of their powers.

seriously, describe cyclops, phoenix, and storm without saying what their powers are or what they look like....probably cant very well can you.

also sort of off handed, but i think Cable has to be the worst character to come out of the xmen if not all of marvel.

Always hated Wolverine, so I stayed away from Origins (didn't miss out, if Bob Chipman is to be believed). In the cartoon, Gambit looked and acted like a complete idiot, and his (on paper) spectacular power of kinetic force always managed to disappoint.

I always liked Nightcrawler (and Azazel in First Class), but my all-time favorite for ever is definitely Magneto. His powers are spectacular, but have believable limitations (unlike Storm, whose power is totally overpowered, so they hardly ever use her, and when they do, her attack somehow manages to be unspectacular, despite the premise). Prof. X is awesome too; Mind Control, 'nuff said.

Jean grey has a weird, untrained cross between Prof. X and Magneto, she's a telepath, and can do telekinesis, which is cool, but her character sucks (although I have yet to read Dark Phoenix, which is apparently the best X-Men arc), and she has her awful boyfriend Cyclops. His power is good for killing dudes, but since they can't bring themselves to show gore, all it does is push people over.

Also: That guy who is a rocket. Cool. (saw him briefly in the cartoon)

PS: My frame of reference is the cartoon, the movies sans 'Origins', and a little tiny bit of the comics.

TL;DnR:

Favorite:
Magneto

Cool:
Prof. X
Nightcrawler (Azazel)
Jean Grey (tentative)
That one rocket dude (his name may be Rocket, which would be humiliating)

Crap:
Wolverine
Gambit
Storm
Cyclops
Cyclops
Cyclops
Cyclops
Cyclops

I suppose that's true, given the NATURE of how he came to be.

So yeah, Deadpool fans know their facts!

Darwin. Just love his powers. Was disappointed with how he was treated in X-Men: First Class. The effects looked bad, and he was done away with too quickly.
And Madox, just because his dupes can develop seperate personalities.

My answers are all influenced by the animated show back in the early 90's.

Gambit - He oozes style and had the best one liners of anyone in the show. He also seldom had any backstory which kept that great sense of mystery to him. The less I know, the better.

Wolverine - The most exciting character due to his willingness to get into trouble and make mistakes. He's about the only one who could actually take a beating and dish one out on the show.

Apocalypse - While not one of the x-men, his character was extremely interesting in the show regarding stories that spanned several episodes. My favorite villain in the show.

Rogue - Sexy voice, amazing potential as a character...but nothing really came out of it. She's probably my most disappointing character in the show.
