Halo was the first xbox game ever.

If halo didn't exist, then the xbox would not exist which means we would probably not have most of the 360 exclusives we know today. ex: gears of war, crackdown, and a bunch of other games I forget.

We might not even have 1st person shooters on a console since halo was the first console shooter that worked right.

Halo is a good all round shooter with an interesting background story.

I am asking why are there suddenly halo haters coming out of no where? When halo 3 was the most played game on xbox live, there was barely any haters in my opinion(at least they were not very obvious). Everybody used to praise halo for it's awesome multiplayer, single player, and awesome main character in the form of Master chief. Then suddenly after modern warfare 2 comes out, the forums are filled with people hating on halo. Come on people! Just because halo 3 is not the most played game on xbox live anymore doesn't mean that we are supposed to hate on it. Halo 3 is still the 2nd most played game on xbox live anyway.Halo 2 was the most played game on original xbox until it got shutdown. Modern warfare 2 might not exist without halo! Hopefully when halo reach comes out, this hate will come to an end. This is just my opinion though.

So what do you have to say about this?

Also no, I am not a halo fanboy, I'm just sick of all the haters and I'm wondering why they decided to attack halo now.
Halo is a generic FPS thats overhyped and at best playable. And no Halo didn't make the FPS genre, there were far better FPS games out before Halo came out, and since too.
The only thing I liked about Halo was its coop campaign play, not a first but atleast made the game playable.

Now all we need is some one to create a "Why all the hate on why all the hate on why all the hate" thread so I can fulfill my destiny of smashing my head into the keyboard. xD! I swear I've seen 2 of these kinds of threads pop up after this one. Is everyone running out of things to talk about?
If everyone is running out of things to talk about, then let's talk about something else instead to set an example. Do you ever worry that there are robots in your ceiling? I'm quite certain there are in mine. I hear.... sounds.

This is actually the one claim that i cant stand. I will always give Goldeneye for the N64 credit for really laying out the foundation for console shooters.

Edit: Aww ninja'd
Halo helped make the xbox what it is today. Golden eye did not really help make the wii famous when it first came out.
The Wii?

now i love halo but hate gears of war and never even bothered to play crackdown.
halo is weird, its so huge it becomes an easy target. plus there is the classic, "its popular so it must be shit" attitude some people cling to.
now i love halo cus it is a TON of fun. playing on LAN or online with your friends is awesome.
however..... ahahha i dont actually think halo is a very good game, just a well designed one. if that makes sense. oh and the best console FPS is golden eye ;) hehe just saying. not sure what all this talk of golden eye on the wii is, seems silly and lame to me. i mean the actual golden eye game for N64. i'm sure someone will say it sucks or whatever but frankly i got more enjoyment out of that game then all the halos put together.

guess i cant really answer your question. i mean i have seen people go from loving halo to hating it, and i really do not know why. maybe its just fanboy nature, the way some people are hating on starcraft 2.

Your first few sentences are a slippy sloop argument. Also, yes you are a Halo fanboy since a non-fanboy would not have bothered with this thread. People hate Halo because they hate popular things. Gamers are from a socially reclusive group and anything main stream seems like a threat becuse its from the main group and there from the side group and they only trust side group things since the main group was mean to them and exiled them. People have hated Halo for a long time but were overwhelmed by fanboys. Now that a new FPS has made itself known, the fanboys have moved on, leaving the unhappy people who hate halo louder since less people are talking and with less praise.

How is halo anything like unreal? Halo did not even have online multiplayer at the time. If anything unreal has started to ripoff halo.
And they wonder why halo fans get so much hate.....
I said started to dude. Not that it did when it first came out(halo wasn't even out yet).
So in what ways did it rippoff halo?
Well in what ways did halo rip off unreal?

Actually no I am not a halo fanboy. No why? Because if it was gears of war instead of halo that was getting all the hate, then I would make a similar thread like this one except instead of halo it's gears of war. I would also do the same for games like gta, call of duty, killzone, and a bunch of others if they were in halo's position.

But why though? This topic has been done to death. Not everything is going to appeal to everyone, and everyone is going to have a specific opinion based on one thing or another that causes them to love or lash out at something that some one else may love or lash out at as well.

Not to mention that this has to be the 6th or 7th thread along the lines of "Why all the hate on X," or "What is it with Y?" Every single one can be answered the same way depending on which of the two choices you picked. That's why these threads are starting to get really annoying, so many people lately have been posting one of these 2 threads with whatever game they can think of, and they are ALL answered the same exact way...

Maybe yours is a bit different, or perhaps you were able to give a good debate. (From what I've seen of your OP, that's kind of hard to imagine, then again most of the responses have been people mocking you so.. That works too.)

But seriously? There are too many of these threads and it's starting to get annoying. I don't understand why you would make a "Why all the hate on gears of war." When if you took the time to think about it. You would probably get the same answers...
If this topic has been done so many times before then why are so many people coming to respond to this thread if it's so unimportant to them?

If Halo didn't exist, the Xbox would've had a different launch title, that's all.

We would still have FPS's, they'll never go away.

Halo haters have always been there, it just took a while for us to notice them.(After all, Halo wasn't the best selling series from the start.)

Modern Warfare 2 might not exist without Halo? I don't think Call of Duty 4 or Modern Warfare 2 borrowed ANYTHING from Halo.

Also, there will always be people who hate Halo.

Because a lot of people (including myself) find it very mediocre. There's nothing wrong with it per se, but it's about as interesting as tazering your balls - only less electrifying (zing!).

PC gamers see Halo as the symbol of their obsolescence (Half Life 2 functions pretty well as that symbol, but that's just my opinion)
No, they don't - and don't even get me started on you saying HL2 somehow functions as that.

Oh, and it's far more likely that MW2 would not exist without Medal of Honour then it is that it wouldn't exist without Halo.

I love to play Halo and I love to hate it. I'll play a few games of SWAT here and there and have a blast, but then I'll turn around and make fun of my little brother for constantly watching videos online about it.

I think it has the problem of attracting the younger crowd as fans, and since they either don't have much to do or it's one of the first things they really like, they obsess over it. Drives us older people nuts I suppose. Kinda like Pokemon. Great games, but since little kids drool over that stuff, I pretend I am not similar to them and drool over it in secret :)

Lots of people do hate all those games you mentioned and there on this site. Halo just has a larger base of people crying "yeh" or "ney" but those other games are equally hated and yet you made this thread specifically about Halo. Why didn't ask "Why all the hate on popular games?" you asked about Halo and then you preceded to praise it in your opening post. You didn't mention any flaws or express any objective reasons you just made nebulous assertions of how good it is. Fanboys do just that, generic praise with no real reasons behind them. By my definition you are a fanboy and I'm calling you out on it. Don't feel bad though, we're all fans of something.

Seriously, stop using that line. First off, you're wrong about it, givent that those two helped to shape offline co-op, keep FPSs alive and relevant to people who didn't play PC games, and were successful enough to help Nintendo make the Gamecube and Wii. Second, relating to the end of the previous sentence, just as Golden Eye and Perfect dark didn't solely give enough money in revenue to make another console, neither did Halo. Plenty of other Xbox games contributed, and I'd even bet a bit of profits from Microsoft's other divisions helped out. Sure, Halo was the big console figurehead, but there were a lot of other games the Xbox had (I have a used game store nearby that has a full shelf of Xbox games, atleast 4 feet long, four rows, and arrange with the side facing forward).

As for Halo hate, some of it comes from the fact that it's most rabid fanboys praise it as the best game ever, it happens to be a very well known game. Most happen to get a lot of crap even if they turn out to be just fine. On that note, Halo fans shouldn't complain about the hate they get, because trust me when I say it pales in comparison to the hate FF fans suffer under.
Wells it's not like the gamecube and the wii had good shooters on it(if any). At least they weren't very hardcore

Successful fanboy cry was successful? Like I said, maybe yours was a bit different, the others seemed to die off after a page or 2, but it still doesn't mean that reproducing these threads over and over again is okay. If this was the first of these kinds of threads, then I wouldn't be able to say anything, but the fact that there's about, 4 of these that were made before this one and 3 more afterwords and then the spoof "Why all the hate on why all the hate threads?" You can see why I feel that these need to stop.

The only thing I saw that was different from other threads is where you said that Halo was one of the first fps games that were done correctly or something along those lines. I took that as simple trolling so I ignored it, but of course there were going to be many, many people out there quick to tell you how wrong you are.

I could go around making threads with "Why all the hate on X," and "What is with Y?" with just about every game/movie/book out there, and I'm pretty sure that the majority of the answers will be the same throughout every single one... Yah... No...

Uh I have never heard a thing about hating on gears, gta, or killzone. I have heard minor complaints about them but I never heard anything about haters up in arms about those games. I have mainly only heard stuff about halo.

First of all many other console shooters IMO worked better then Halo

Second it is a good shooter but the story sucks the first one was great Because you mysteriously crash on a unknown world as a lone surviver until you save your allies but the second and third were basically all about how "awesome" the Chief is which totally ruined his character

Thirdly you made a big assumption with the Modern Warfare 2 wouldn't exist without Halo. Call of Duty games are totally different then Halo and saying one shooter wouldn't exist without another is asinine. Thats like saying Doom wouldn't exist without Duck hunter

Fourthly saying all this stuff then going I'm not a fanboy makes you sound like a huge Halo fanboy

It's not like I wanted a big discussion about it. I just wanted a few comments about it so I could get some answers but, I got almost 200 comments. If there isn't any discussion value then why are almost 200 people talking about it.

Both call of duty and halo are shooters so yes they are similar. Also no I am not a fanboy. If gears of war was getting the same hate that halo is getting then I would make a thread about gears instead of halo. But it is not so here I am.
