I hate the argument "People only hate it because it's popular." It's such a lame, annoying and usually untruthful comment, yet so many use it. Such arguments are the very pinnacle of fanboyism. It also serves as a useful escape point for anyone who can't come up with an actual valid and well thought out point.
Also, the X-Box's survival due to Halo does not make it a good game, it makes the X-Box a bad console. Relying on one franchise does not bode well.

Seriously, stop using that line. First off, you're wrong about it, givent that those two helped to shape offline co-op, keep FPSs alive and relevant to people who didn't play PC games, and were successful enough to help Nintendo make the Gamecube and Wii. Second, relating to the end of the previous sentence, just as Golden Eye and Perfect dark didn't solely give enough money in revenue to make another console, neither did Halo. Plenty of other Xbox games contributed, and I'd even bet a bit of profits from Microsoft's other divisions helped out. Sure, Halo was the big console figurehead, but there were a lot of other games the Xbox had (I have a used game store nearby that has a full shelf of Xbox games, atleast 4 feet long, four rows, and arrange with the side facing forward).thatguy779 said:

hardly a "console maker" in my opinion. i´m sure the fan base helped, but i dont think all the credit should go to Halo.
call of duty was a pc game up until call of duty 5 where on 6 infinity ward quickly became one of the most hated developers for pc gamers due to the massive dick move they pulled on us by removing dedicated servers thus making it shit.
halo is by no means that fps that inspired fps gaming as people have said before with the only thing it inspired was regenerating health which is utterly shit because it just prolongs and stagnates gameplay while simultaneously promote camping. would rather have a health bar with preferably more squad based play such as in the battlefield series up until shit company or quake where it is at least got one of the highest skill requirements in the gaming world since its one of most fast paced fps's out there.

I never liked halo multiplayer so I never understood why it was so popular. The single player in my opinion wasn't all that innovative but was polished to a level few games see.
