Bioware game with beautifully scripted storyline Score 10.
Tedious leveling that comes with MMORPGs -2
The fact that every character really follows the same story, so its a bunch of clones running around with different names and stats, but really accomplishing the same goals and quests. -3
Less of a 'play like your a person in the starwars universe' more 'YOU ARE THE HERO, YOU ARE LEGENDARY, BUT OH WAIT, SO IS EVERYONE!!! Garbage they are preaching almost every dev interview. -3

Game gets a score of 2 out of 10 = FAIL

this is Bioware we're talking about, probably the best developer studio at the moment, if they won't take risks, who will?
In a market where WoW is something you have to compete against, making any game at ALL is a risk. Mass Effect might have an MMO come along somewhere down the pike, but Star Wars is the better option for an initial attempt.
Actually, that is what I as thought as well, initially that is. Then I realized that no matter if TOR succeeds or fails, the Mass Effect MMO will not be made.

1. If it fails, no one will want to fund another MMO by bioware, because let's face it, these things are VERY expensive to make, even when talking about Bioware it's simply not a risk worth taking when it comes to those that need to please the stockholders.
2. If it succeeds the Mass Effect MMO will not be made because then it would just be competition to the already made Bioware-MMO, the two are so similar they'd start stealing customers from each other and that's just shooting yourself in the foot.

I haven't really seen any hate. All I have to say on the matter, though, is that if BioWare succeeds, it will be completely amazing and possibly be on par with WoW. However, if BioWare doesn't portray their ideas well, it will be a complete flop and quite possibly hurt the company. I cannot let that happen as it will only serve to make Mass Effect 3's further and further from me.

I don't think you'll have to worry about Mass Effect 3, TOR isn't slated for release until at least 2012.

Personally, I can't wait. If it takes all the good things from WoW (and its first expansion), and adds some more innovation like BioWare usually do, it can't be bad. That alone isn't enough to make it against the might of WoW, but add Star Wars and you start off with such a huge base of people who are at least slightly interested.

I haven't seen that much hate for it. However I would imagine it's because they're making that instead of KoTR III. I know I would rather they make KoTR III.

A-fucking-men brother.

Only you forgot one thing; Not Knights of the Old Republic 3, -10

So the actual score? -8 out of 10. Not to mention that they blatantly screwed over the original storyline by just saying in the TOR website a while ago that Revan 'failed' in his quest.

...That's it? Two fucking brilliant games worth of story and THAT'S what you give us for closure? Fuck you Bioware, Fuck you.

If it weren't for Mass Effect and Dragon Age, I would absolutely dispise them at this point.

There's only one personnal thing that bothers me: Bioware not making KOTOR 3. Not only that, but They said that TOR is KOTOR 3, 4 , 5 and 6...

I'm going to say "dick move guys".
And how does that make TOR bad? I'd say Bioware has been planning this for a while. Probably why they didn't make KOTOR2 themselves (for all that that means). I think what they are trying to say there is that this game is the size of 5 or 6 or more KOTOR games. Besides it does continue the story of KOTOR and you can play solo from what I've heard. Where's the problem?
I didn't say it makes the MMO bad. I would've preferred a single player epic storyline with great characters and everything. That and I don't want to play a MMO right now.

As for continuity, I would've preferred if KOTOR 3 was made to continue a more direct storyline. TOR can still be made since it's a few hundred years later if I heard right. It wouldn't affect things that much.

I'm hating cause they wont develop for Mac even though a good percentage of WoW players use their macs.

Most of the naysayers are found on the Filefront forums, since they won't be able to mod the shit out of it like KOTOR 1 and 2.

I still hope for a KOTOR 3, but hell will freeze over before I get that or Battlefront 3, or Republic Commando 2, or Tie Fighter 2, or a new Jedi Knight Game.

I'm kind of looking forward to but I only have enough room in my heart for one MMO and Guild Wars 2 draws nearer every day. Also, I would much rather Bioware just continue with their current IPs (or making new ones)like Mass Effect 3 (only one year to go!) and Dragon Age 2 (also, just around the corner). I just worry that if TOR bombs, Bioware could be in the shit. Bring us KOTOR 3 instead.

So yeah; I think they could be spending their time on something better. I hear it will have subscription fees so I doubt I'll grab it (unless GW2 blows.... which it wont) but I will pick up a free trial and see what I think.

As long as it has a 3-day trial and doesn't make me pay $60 just to see if it's a solid turd or not... :p
WoW gave me that treatment (trial), and they've had my patronage for 5 years now. :(
*save me*

Well, as long as you have a reason, I can accept that. Actually, I understand where you are coming from. One of the interesting things I saw is that they do plan to bring up the issue of Revan's fate in TOR. Having looked into it, no one knows what has happened to him. It seems he went to fight the Sith Emperor, and no one knows what happened after that. One video I saw showed them preparing to explore some ruins that were being called the "final resting place of Darth Revan".

Bioware is known for quality, but they have an extremely linear formula to making RPGs. I'm just not sure how well the whole story bit can come across, when you are not anybody special, just one of the thousand other players in an online world. I'm still optimistic, but it's safer to bet on it bombing than it overturning all conventions as to what makes a good game.

Umm... I haven't seen that much hate for it.

Plenty of people saying stuff along the lines of, "Eeeeeeeee! Can't wait! Gimme now!"

Personally, I'm not interested in the game. But I don't hate it.

Basically, so long as Bioware bring out Mass Effect 3, they can do no wrong in my eyes.

I don't know...I've look around for info on it on a weekly basis and I don't see an overwhelming amount of negativity.

Heck, with the latest reveal on crafting it's been quite the opposite in fact for most. Before that I suppose there was the whole "Naw, space combat on rails must die, X-Wing vs. TIE fighter 4evar!" craze...but it comes and goes, ebb and flow really.

And as it really should be noted: "The mob is fickle." In the end a solid backbone and the execution of their launch and post-launch service is what will probably make or break SWTOR moreso than any negativity thrown onto it from commenters who want to entertain the illusion that their hatred actually does the world any good (i.e. the ones quoted by the poster above).

Ultimately everything that happens before the launch is mainly just hype, good or bad opinions both.
