Why All the Hate on Naruto?

Naruto (the first series) suffered from a condition known as DBZ syndrome. They took 3 episodes to fight someone and sometimes longer to explain the backstory. I was glad to see that Shippuden seems to correct many of the problems in Naruto... although I enjoyed Naruto. Well, except for the filler parts... Bleach's filler was somewhat interesting; watching Naruto and friends help find lost animals and do other tasks was not.

It's boring. I can't necessarily say it's any worse than Bleach or Dragonball HXZCPOVHSRXVJPOSXJGvprwst 50 or any of the other currently running series of that type, but it's still boring.

That whole subgenre of anime is like watching someone level grind in a terrible European RPG.

Ok my Big Issue (he he he) with Naruto is that all of the characters are either 2 dimensional or blatantly lifted from the legends of the actual ninjas apart from the point that in Naruto the legends actually happen rather than just be drunken bragging to maintain a ridiculous reputation. (This is obviously in my own opinion and may be... somewhat influenced by the fact that ninjas were only effective assassins because the people they were fighting only knew ceremonial stances that were openly copied from one person to the other meaning that you could easily develop a stance to counteract it and just use that all of the time).

same that is wrong with most anime-from-manga - its waaaaaaaaaaaay too drawn out. generally 1 entire episode dedicated to a fraction of a volume? please.

naruto does it to such an extent that its like i'm watching paint dry.

the manga is, however, great.

i used to watch naruto, but then i realised of the 20 odd minute program i was watching roughly 15 minutes of trees and other inanimate objects, the story progressing at roughly 0.5 manga chapters per episode. I gave up and started reading the manga and am much happier for it.

Well... I stopped watching the anime because of the filler. Continued to read the mangas, then stopped because I do believe Kishimoto just stopped giving a fuck.

Either that or the relatively flat characters stopped being interesting for me and the horridly underwhelming "bond" between Sasuke and Naruto got tiring BEFORE the age jump. And Sakura is a fucking Melter.

About the only characters I like at the point I'm at is Choji and Shikamaru and they have slowly been shoved into the background. Also, the Akatsuki are way too emo for me. Everything beyond that just bores the hole off me.

Could be that I'm 22 and the series is aimed at teens...

Pretty much this... specifically the last part. Though with that said, DB still has a place in my heart since I was a child watching it in the first place.

Because it was awesome in the beginning. Now they're pulling a DBZ (not the kind with dying and being ressurected) And are starting to get powers that can blow up entire planets, hell 3 guys can even create nuclear strikes =,=
Bleach is going down the same street >.>

It just isn't that good. It's mediocre. It's not great, it's not terribad, it's just meh. Also it was better pre-timeskip.

But hey at least it's better than DBZ.

Personally, it?s not my favorite anime, but I love it anyway. It?s a fantastic coming-of-age story with interesting, strategic battles and well-developed characters that are easy to care deeply about.
Amen to that.

Like you said, it does get hated on a tad too much. Sure it has its flaws, but I think it does not deserve the hatin' it gets. Then again, life is not about what one deserves right?

I think it has to do with fillers, but my guess is that its more because Naruto is like the icon for Shounen series. Shounen series being seen as stereotypical "Scream I'll protect blah blah, goes crazy mad super saiyan powers and beats opponent" (which does describe most shounen series pretty accurately tbh). I myself am not too fond of the Shounen genre, but I like Naruto and few others.

Well, that's just my take on it, and I hope that one day we will be able to enjoy the series we like without the hate... I can dream right?

It kinda drags on forever. And ever. And ever.

I mean, I don't hate it. It's just not my favorite thing in the world. I feel the same way about Bleach and DBZ.

History's Mightiest Disciple Kenichi is better anyhow.

the animation is crap. utter crap. it's actually painful to watch.

the pacing is also terrible. it's paced like a manga, but it's not a manga. it's an animated show. it needs to be paced like an animated show.

and they talk way too much. they spend so much time explaining things that hardly anything actually happens in the current episode. animation is all about telling a story through movement and action; Naruto does none of that. i've got a drinking game for you: every time they use stock footage from a previous episode, take a drink (pro tip: you're going to be completely smashed by the end of the 22 minute episode).

I don't know who made the call, but someone decided that, aside from filler episodes, they needed to follow the comic panel for panel. this was a mistake. what they really needed to do was pump a decent amount of money into it and hire a decent producer and keep Kishimoto away from his own property, at least in terms of television direction. i'm not even sure it would have been a good idea to let him write the episodes/movies / follow his manga script exactly. he's great with character design; that's clearly his thing, and he takes the story to interesting places. but they should keep him at arms length for the television show.
the way you take it it would be like taking a child from its parents because the general public doesn't believe they'll do a good enough job as parents - think about it, if you created something, something you thought could be spectacular, wouldn't you want your hands doing the direction instead of someone who couldn't possibly understand things from your point of view?
Every creator wants to see his or her work completed by their own hands no matter how long it might take and taking that freedom and joy from them would be inhumane

Funnily enough I stopped watching episode 37 to pay a visit here :)

As a TV series it plainly sucks because there is way too much filler in the series. It is absolutely unwatchable (is that a word) if one can not wind it forward like all the time.

However I still like to watch it IF I have lots of episodes in hand (*skip forward*, *skip forward*, *skip forward*). The story and characters are excellent.

You forgot to put *trollface* in the end ;)

Ps. I could never watch anime dubbed. Actually not any series or movies. I'd rather watch them in their original language.

The more I run that analogy through my head, the more I find myself agreeing with it. Episode start: yap yap yap. Ad break: yapping through an attack. Episode end: first attack has just been countered amidst more yapping. Next episode: repeat.

I've kind of completely turned away from the fighting animes. I only really watch dramas/certain comedies these days...

I loves me some Naruto manga and videogames, anime has too much filler.

Though I would like to point out that all my hate goes to Sasuke I mean he doesn't really do anything.

Shows like Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note, while both amazing shows, amount to disappointing endings because they just did their own thing when they caught up with the manga.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the ending of DEATH NOTE is bad just because IS bad, it ends just like that in the manga, the series does NOT contain any filler content whatsoever, also the original FMA did have like 25 chapters of fillers, but last year they corrected that by launching a new ALL manga no fillers version of the series which is for all intents and purposes the "perfect" version of the story (and one of the best series of all time IMO)

Naruto IS overrated, it now has like a 50% filler to canon ratio (wich is BAD) but even if you where to skip the fillers the canon hasnt really been all that good for years now (especcially since the time skip) i completely agree whit you about it being far to hated but you got to understand that both naruto and bleach are like the justin bieber of the anime industry, they became a "product" for the massess of no brain zombie-fans that follow them while truly good anime is ignored and a lot of them not even get releases in the states (go watch Requiem for the Phantom, Shiki, Rainbow, Book of Bantorra, Durarara, Angel Beats, and then maybe youll understand all the hate on Naruto)

Naruto instead takes the approach of making a filler arc when it catches up to the manga on which it?s based, in order to let the manga get ahead enough for the anime to adapt it. Filler is necessary in order to keep the show running while allowing the show to still follow the story of its source material. That?s far better than just going off on its own and eventually ending disappointingly.
*Thinks back to Fruits Basket*

Yes, please, no more awful gecko endings, please please please.

Complaints about...those "complaints" are only points in its favor to me.

The English dub is also a weak argument (though it is awful). Don't complain if what amounts to an American vocal adaptation is sub-par, just watch the original.
Is it just the voice acting? Do they change the story or somehow change characters to become annoying (in ways other than their voices). I heard someone say Naruto doesn't say "Believe it!" in the sub like he does in the dub. This is important, if it's just the voice acting I'm unlikely to have any trouble.

Edit: Another question, am I better off sticking to the manga?

It's coming to close, eventually. They're setting up this big ass final showdown and the whole world is involved and it's actually pretty cool. It moved crazy slow in the beginning, even without the tremendous amount of filler, which is probably why some people gave up on it.
