Ewwww, LIGHT ROCK.

I'm with you on the opinion that the Beatles suck. No, you're not insane. I may be, but you aren't.

Light rock?
That's definitely light rock.
Please tell me you don't think that's heavy.
A few definitions as provided by the web:

? A form of rock 'n' roll that is restrained in style and is characterized by the predominance of melody
? Soft rock (also referred to as mellow rock, light rock, or easy rock) is a style of music which uses the techniques of rock and roll (often combined with elements from folk rock and singer-songwriter pop) to compose a softer, more toned-down sound for listening

What about Helter Skelter is "more toned-down" or "restrained in style?"

This is 1968. The Beatles certainly had their share of songs with a light rock sound, but simply dismissing all of it as light rock is erroneous. Helter Skelter is widely considered a proto-metal song, and it was heavier than pretty much everything out there at the time. Even by modern standards, Helter Skelter isn't light rock. You aren't going to hear it on an easy listening radio channel. You aren't going to see James Taylor doing a cover of it. It may not be as heavy as whatever you enjoy listening to, but calling it light rock is off base.
Well, I suppose our definitions of light/heavy rock have split here. I think of light rock as anything that doesn't aim to go 'deeper' than the mainstream. For example, playing grunge in Drop-D tuning is almost impossible to make light. It just has a heavier 'feel' to it.

Sorry to be vague. It's hard to define sound xD

Those people are just dicks to you, that has nothing to do with being a Beatles fan. I'm not a fan myself, I have a few dozen songs of theirs on my playlist and they are a hugely important band and all, but not that good to incite rage at people not liking them.

As for the sex, drugs and r'n'r I think that was popularized by the likes of Velvet Underground and it was certainly not encompassing the entire genre.

A lot of people believe that if someone doesn't agree with their musical preferences (or anything for that matter), that means they're a lesser person or simply wrong. Much like your friends and that teacher.

I don't like The Beatles either.

I don't particularly like their music either, and I take flak for it. It is how the world is.

Playing pretty much anything in Drop-D tuning means shitty mainstream crap rock.

I'll take the Beatles well-composed original riffs and unmatched funky psychedelia over shitty repetitive grunge any day...

Also, the Beatles covered almost all bases of both pop music and rock music over the course of being a band, so to classify them as one style is, well, ignorant to say the least.

I mean, come on... At least listen to one song from every album before you pass judgment on a band. Especially one that still has a huge following years later.

It´s not about " liking " the beatles.

If you don´t know what they did for music in general, i feel sad for you.

The Beatles are highly overrated. I don't care what anyone says. Sure a few songs are decent, but they are not "Gods" like some idiots claim. They are the New Kids on the Block/Boyz 2 Men/Backstreet Boys/Justin Beiber of the 60s. They just played the semi-talentless boy band thing relatively first.

I don't think I even know Beatle songs tbh. I just learned from a previous post that 'Back in the USSR'is made by them, but I never heard their version, only a cover made by the Leningrad Cowboys.

Just ignore the haters. Everybody has his own musical preference. I got strange reactions as well when I said I didn't know about a band called 'Metallica'.

I'm not particularly fond of their music myself. I'm glad the Beatles existed, they brought rock during a time where pop music had defied all logic and had become much worse. But that being said, just because a person started the craze doesn't mean they're the best. Doom was the original FPS but Portal which totally maims everything Doom stood for is the best FPS. The original coke--
...actually the original Coca-Cola had real coke in it. So there are exceptions, but like i said, being first is not the same as being best.
