That's a lame argument, especially if you're a Coheed fan. I love Coheed too, but hearing "ZOMG he soundz like a gurlz hehe coheed is sux0rz" gets old.

If you don't like the band, fine, but there's no need to go looking for a music fight.
I'm not looking for a fight, Read my post. But yes the argument about Claudio's voice does get old.

Uhm... The Mars Volta is absolutely nothing like muse. The only similarity is they both have high pitched lead singers. Musically, they're polar opposites. TMV is prog-alternative with heavy jazz/latin influences. Muse is just alternative rock, they follow the standard "Verse-Chorus-Bridge" song structure. Comparing the two is like comparing Blink-182 to Dream Theater.
I don't think so at all. I think that the Mars Volta sound pretty damn similar to Muse in many aspects! But whatever man, it's all gravy.
I don't mean to come off like an ass, but they're not similar, and that's not my opinion, its a fact based on the structure of their musical composition. TMV is heavily improvised prog rock with its roots heavily seeded in jazz and Zavala's latin background.

Muse relies heavily on the verse-corus-bridge structure, their music is far more mainstream than anything TMV could ever hope to produce.

It's not my opinion, my opinion would be TMV is totally awesome, but as far as them being different, that's just a fact. If you think they sound similar, it's because of your limitations being able to analyze music composition. It would be like saying Bach is very similar to Beethoven. They're very different.

I actually live where Muse are from, I go (went?) to the school Matt Bellamy (and I think the bassist) went to AND I was taught by the guy who taught Matt Bellamy music.

/thread.

But I loath Muse, mainly because:

A) I think they sound a lot like Radiohead

B)I think they may bring back shit from the same genre as Pink Floyd (although that birthed punk...so I dunno)

C) Matt Bellamy's voice.

Damn good musicians...but as a band pretty shite

Well, points for liking Coheed and Cambria. I love them to bits.

As for Muse, I do like them. Not a massive fan, but the sound just works for me. Origins of Symmetry is by far my favourite album, but I tend to like only a few songs from most bands and Muse is no exception.

Not everyone likes them. But I could ask: "Why all the love for The Beatles?" They have a tremendous fanbase, yet some, like me, just can't see why there's the hype. To me, their songs are bland and repetative. (And yes, I'm aware that Muse and The Beatles are MASSIVELY different, and also aware of the slaughter my colleagues/the Internet/anyone my dad's age will give me for admitting I dislike The Beatles. I'm just using an example here.)

Haha well you kind've did come off like an ass, sorry

I'm not gonna slag off one or the other because I really like both bands, but as there are many differences, there are also many similiarities. Songs such as Hoodoo by Muse and Telavators by TMV are composed in very much the same way. And I'm guessing you haven't listened to much by Muse other than their new stuff, as most of teh tracks on the Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry albums are definitely prog rock and comparisons can definitely be drawn between Muse and TMV

I agree with you though that Muse are much more mainstream, especially in recent years

And yeah, my music analysing skills are definitely limited as I am not a music student, but that doesn't render my point invalid in any way.

This. Music is entirley subjective, so each to his own.

Hell, makes more sense than Coldplay. Chris Martin can't sing, and yet they're immensly popular. What the hell is going on?
That's a good point point. Why is coldplay popular?
Or indeed 'her own' =]

My biggest beef with Muse is the dudes vocal lines.. They are all the same

"Sooooooooooooooooooooome *Breath* Time todaaaaaaaaaay I will *Breath* leaaaaaaaaaaaaaarn how to beeeaaaaaath riiiiight *Breath*"

I listened to a few of their songs in a row, noticed this and bursted out laughing!

What can I say? Time, and my attempts to look like a man with little of it to spare, are strange things.

Muse is my favorite band so this is my kind of forum. Why they are so awesome......I don't know they make awesome music but they just seem a bit different (in a good way) then all other bands.

Well spoken. Every opinion counts.

I haven't heard TMV, but I know that Muse is just music. I say to the ones that keep saying they're bad: "okay? I should care because...? Like it or don't. My music taste isn't worse than your. It's like saying that my taste in food sucks cause I like hamburgers and you like pizza."

Muse has to be my favorite band, even though I couldn't stand them at first.
What I like most about them is that their music is clearly heavily inspired by classical music. (Don't start I know they aren't the only ones.)
For example, I love the piano solo in Butterflies & Hurricanes.
Ok, the lyrics aren't spectacular, but at least they're not all hell, blood & darkness (now that gets on my nerves).

I'm quite a different Muse fan, as my favorite songs are never those of other fans. I like their calmer song more, Megalomania being my favorite.
Also, have you seen them live? Then you'd probably understand why they have such a big fanbase. (Youtube doesn't do them justice.)

I haven't heard enough of the songs to make a decent informed opinion about the band.

I just like Knights of Cydonia a lot. I think it's a pretty decent song.
