Why are things automaticly bad once they are popular?

Personally I believe that popular games start to get hated because of fanboys.

I mean don't you just hate it when you give your honest opinion about a game and some fanboy bashes you in the ground, simply because you don't share the same opinion with him?

If EVERYBODY loves something, and you don't love something, it's going to be frustrating hearing everyone talk about it all the time. Slowly, more and more people will adopt your view until it becomes popular to hate it.

and popular things are usually popular because it or its lineage has at one point or another been really good or better than others...

but the more attention it gets the more people are able to eventually pick out all the problems (because nothing in life is perfect)

or idk, the key is, if you have fun then you win. no need to bash on what someone loves (because then you lose since you're wasting time hatin' instead of doing what you love...unless you just love being disrespectful and rude, then it's always a fail)

People like to bash cool things, because they think it makes them look cool. Once someone they look up to starts hating on something, they instantly think "Hey, if I hate it as well, maybe I'll look cool just like [insert person they look up to here]!"

I don't mind, it's always funny to see them hate on things, because the chances of them causing others to stop playing is miniscule at best.

The only thing i bash is twilight and i believe i have good reasons for doing so. I would like to write a book someday and whats popular in the world? A book that is terribly written, who makes vampires look like sparkly faires and werewolves are suddenly models.

When i hear Twitards say how great it is it makes my blood boil.

Partly it's because there's that old 'popular to hate' thing going on but it can also be because people who genuinely didn't like something that is popular feel that they have to vocalize that fact much louder than the fans who think it is good. Pretty soon people start to notice this and think it'll make them look cool so they join in and eventually threads and blogs and so many other things are built to hate on something and eventually guys who make, let's say, gaming review videos start to notice that people ragging on POPULAR GAME X get more hits so they join in too and the people watching who think it is funny start doing it too.

It's an endless cycle, as soon as something is popular it gets lots of attention that eventually evolves into very harsh criticism until eventually it is absolutely reviled. That's my theory of it anyway.

What's ironic though is that the people hating popular stuff to 'go against the mainstream' are unwittingly doing the same thing as thousands of other people under the same mindset and are ending up becoming even more mainstream then the thing they were originally hating on.

The anti-fans gives something just as much attention as the fans does. The only real difference is how they phrase it.

"I don't like because" for the anti-fan.

"I like this because" for the fan.

The mainstream consumer of anything doesn't really think about anything deeper than "I like this, I have use of it, I shouldn't have to motivate neither good or bad about it", at least, generally.

I like for example halo 2, I've played the first and liked the vehicle section better than in the second and only played some halo 3 multiplayer. I don't think that all mainstream is bad but it's about your own taste, if it because you are an "anti-mainstream" person then let be like that but if you think flaws are stronger that the good parts and you have good arguments/reasons then that's your opinion and maybe with that you can more easily convince people that you don't like it, I don't like it be cause "insert reason" instead of just saying, "so many noobs are playing it" that'll hardly convince anyone. It's all about what you look for in a game and what you dislike in games and everyone has a different taste, and this applies to about everything.

Like I said, some things are justifiably hated, but even so it's damned annoying to hear people hate on it all the time. Both sides of the argument are equally annoying at this point.

When something becomes popular to hate, more people start hating it so they can seem part of the 'cool' crowd. That's why so many people hate on Halo, Modern Warfare, Twilight, Macs, PSPgo's, Zunes, iPods, Flat Screen TVs, 3D, motion controls, etc, etc.

Sometimes, people are justified in the reasons they bring up as to why they hate something, but it doesn't change that so many topics are 'cool' to hate and so many people hate on them to feel 'cool.'

Pretty much nailed it. Although some things have legitmate reasons for disliking, popular thathings are usually popular because they are good.

Simple "Us vs Them" situation. The fans are often what influences the bulk of the hate. Keep in mind though that not all things are automatically bad when they are popular (I.E. Batman, chika pow.) I think people would care much less about things like Twilight if the fans didn't act like "Edward is so sexy! Why can't I have a misunderstood, lover who will protect me and who understands me!?"

Beats me. I've been known to hate on popular things, but I also like popular things. For example, I didn't like Avatar but I like Halo.

PSPgo's were never popular...and for a reason. I've hated them since before they were released.

Its probably a combination of many things, there's the cool non-conformist mentality.
But it's also probably because the more popular something becomes, the more people talk about it, which can be annoying.
Also there's the trolls.

The only way to be cool is to like obscure things. The more obscure something is the more awesome you are for knowing about it. Therefore, the more popular or well known something is the less cool you are for knowing about it. Since you like $popular_thing1 and are such a fucking lameass, $popular_thing1 must really suck.

PSPgo's were never popular...and for a reason. I've hated them since before they were released.

Right, perhaps for you, but for me the PSPgo is perfect. I've bought only 3 games for it and I've been very satisfied with them, and I'm still not finished with any of them. Those games are Disgaea: Dark Hero Days, Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero, and Disgaea Infinite. NIS makes wonderful, long lasting games.

The Pause function is incredibly useful, especially when I'm stuck on a boss in Prinny and I feel like either searching the web, listening to music, or even playing another game.

The 14.7gb (16 my ass... Why isn't this stuff ever actually accruately labeled?) is very convenient for storing my music (A stupid decision, I must admit.) and for holding movies or anime series (Which is a terrific decision, I must admit. I've enjoyed many animes and movies on the PSPgo.)

The fact that it's so incredibly light weight is very convenient, especially since before I got the Go I only had the original Phat. It's a very noticable and much needed change.

I never had a really large library of games before, so not having access to them on the Go is no issue, and if I really want to play them again, I still have my Phat. I never had any need to crack my PSP to play emulated games.

Finally, the fully virtual format is very useful and convenient for me as I don't have to carry them around and I can switch games at any time. The Go is perfect for me and the hate unwarranted as far as I'm concerned.

TL;DR: Opinions; I like the Go for my own reasons.

Vocal minority. Nothing will please everyone and if something is popular, more people are exposed to it. Therefore there'll be more people that don't like it and because they're in the minority, they naturally feel the need to make themselves heard.
