Sure, I could use an ego boost right around now. These past few months have been terribly boring!

I'm 22 years old, and yet have already been around the world and traveled extensively through multiple location worldwide including Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. I don't plan to stop now either, there's still so very much to see! I've been to the tops of mountains and trudged through the most dreary of deserts. Slept in miserable heat and through minus 40 winters in a tent. Not to mention seen all sorts of nasty and potentially deadly wildlife slightly closer than I'd like at times but lived to tell the tale (That I saw dangerous animals up close and lived to tell the tale!).

I like to backpack, traveling via train, bus, or even by foot when I can so I'm in pretty good shape. Nothing worth bragging about as far as upper-body strength goes sadly, but when it comes to endurance hikes and the like I'm in excellent standing.

So if ever you're in need of someone who can walk really, really far for long stretches of time without rest, yup, I'm yer man!

And I also play D&D and videogames. Fear my lvl 80 Night Elf Druid!

I'm awesome because I make people laugh, I'm getting on amazingly with my girlfriend - who I think I love, I am ridiculously blessed with friend groups, and I get on brilliantly with my family :)

I'm a pretty respectable guitarist who doesn't have a YouTube video.

EAT THAT!

Also, I can get pretty angry at nothing, which seems to be very funny, ven though I'm hoping to make a point somewhere along the line...

Oh, and also, I'm pretty smart. Not sure how smart, but smart enough to go through university without really doing anything.

1) I have an almost uncanny ability to retain knowledge and use it for my own academic gain.
2) In my last few exams I have scored no lower than 65% in what many regard as the hardest courses possible for a person of my age.
3) I am able to display a level of maturity beyond what many have expected of me throughout my life. At the age of 5, I was able to have direct and complex conversations with adults (albeit about specialist subjects, such as Dinosaurs).
4) All teachers love me. Over my life I have had many many teachers in various subjects, and not one of them has ever had a complaint to make about my skill in academics, or my work ethic.
5) I play a pretty good survivalist Cleric in DDO.
6) Despite me not having had a girlfriend, I have plenty of non-sexual interaction with the opposite gender. My intelligence means that many of the women I know come to me for help and I am happy to oblige.
7) I'm a black belt in Shotokan style Karate and have swam over 1 mile in one sitting. These are my only sporting achievements and I'm bloody well proud of them.
8) I somehow manage to juggle friends, work, trying to ask out girls, revision, karate and my own free time without letting my head explode. This may not sound impressive to you, but I'm glad.

I'm sorry if I sound like a pretentious git here, but to be perfectly honest with you all, that's all true.

I envy you.
I've grown to bloody loathe my peers and despise my 13 loooong years of schooling. You should have an idea what kind of memories I hold of those days... *sigh*...
I'm not saying that my life at school is perfect. Many times my intelligence is a curse (e.g. People who expect me to do all the work, people who pick on me for being attentive), as well as the fact that being one of the shortest people in the year (not just shortest boy, most of the girls are taller than me as well) brings its own form of punishment.
These are just the good parts, and they will be the parts that I remember.
I believe it was Watchmen who said that the past will always looks brighter to us in the future, because we'll choose to remember the best parts to make the dark atrocities of the present go away for a little while.

My view on the topic is that yes, YOU are the one who chooses what you remember from the past. But seriously, wouldn't you easily remember stronger memories? I've got many strong memories of tough times at school(let me point out that I'm NOT an academic drop-out), to the point that I've decided to scrap my memories of those years as much as possible cause I feel they drag me down. Also, I've got the feeling I'll be needlessly extra-cautious at university...
Maybe, but I make the good parts my stronger memories. Conscious choice may be all that we humans truly have, so we might as well honor it and use it to make life better for us. If you choose to throw away your memories then that is your choice, but life always comes with good and bad, if you don't remember one, then you have nothing to compare with the other.
If you see only the good stuff, then there are no surprises in life, nothing makes you happy.
If you see only the bad stuff, then there is nothing left that can hurt you, nothing makes you sad.
While the second option may sound better, it is the path of the clinically insane. So our choices are:
1) Insanity. Live in our own little bubble to keep out the pain, and strike out at anyone who tries to pop it.
2) Depression. Be the people who try to pop the little bubbles around them.
3) Mix it up. Take good as it comes and when it gets bad, just deal with it or change it. Life may not be perfect, but it's at least better than a life of insanity or depression.

The way we live our lives is our choice. It's not about making the right choice or the wrong choice. It's just about choosing.

Your explanation reminds me of a famous quote-forgot who said it though: "He who becomes a monster frees himself of the pain of being a man"
I don't know where that's from, but is sounds kind of familiar.
