Why are you hetero or homosexual?...

Why do people assume that just because your sexuality is who you are rather than a choice that it is somehow encoded into your genes? They're essentially saying that homosexuality is a mutation because of the fact that genes cannot be passed down without reproduction. I find it hard to believe that everyone's tastes and hobbies are encoded into their genetics.

That said, I'm not a geneticist. I just think it's a little conclusion jumpy to assume that someone's sexuality is the result of a broken gene somewhere that causes them to act out of the "natural order."

Why we even care is probably a better question.

Because the thought of having sex with another man disgusts me? I have nothing against homosexuals, for all i care they can get married, have children, but i will never be attracted to the same gender.
I read that comment with the face of your avatar.

It's in our DNA, it isn't a choice, it's how we're 'programmed'
That is wrong. If that were true homosexuality would be genetic disorder , which it isn't.
Its a physiological thing.
How exactly would that make it a genetic disorder? I've theorized in the past that homosexuality is actually an evolved trait that species have developed over time. Homosexuality has multiple uses, if you think about it. First of all, a homosexual person is far less likely to reproduce, and thus they will not have offspring to take a greater toll on supplies and resources. Secondly, while they cannot have children, they can still be productive members of their respective society or family unit and still help gather supplies, resources, or spend time training or raising children.

So yeah, pretty sure it isn't a disorder. Still pretty sure it's genetic, though.

Edit: No, I've never been in a romantic relationship. [I know nothing about sex].

Edit II: Why do people keep thinking I said sexuality is a choice? If you get that impression I clearly need to have my post beta'd.

Edit III: Turn your Auto-Defense off! I'm not trying to convert everyone into a bisexual.

Edit IV: Is there a way to turn the anger off in here?
well the theme of the thread largely implies there being a choice, i mean, we are hetero/homo because that's how we're born in most cases, it was a pretty stupid question, and people are angry because you're suggesting otherwise, which can be quite offensive, just take it into account for next time ok?

It's possible to have non-sexual relationships.
Sex has nothing to do with how much you like someone, apart from the obvious higher chance of consent with someone you like.

Wooooh bisexuality!
I agree, it'd be awesome if people were more versatile. I think probably one of the main reasons people don't grow up to be at least bi-curious is they expect people will think less of them. If more people were bisexual, the world would be a damn great place.
And for the people getting off-topic, the guy is trying to say, why is it EVEN IF WE ARE PROGRAMMED (or not depending on your view) do we only focus on one gender and yet there are still plenty of bisexuals out there? Perhaps it's time to be a bit more versatile, there's people who literally do not like the opposite genders sex without any choice, and those who are simply creeped out by the thought. Ironically instead of knowing many hetrosexuals who've turned bi - I know quite a few homosexuals who've decided girls aren't so bad too, it kind of proves that once you're a bit more open, then people can discover their true self and be with whoever makes them happy.

Talk about a complicated topic lol!

There are so many factors that could influence who you become attracted to. I think there are biological and socialized influences (with the social influences occuring within both primary and secondary stages and beyond)

I can see your point about it seeming 'odd' (on paper) to only go after one sex though. After all, I am a straight man that could find myself romantically attracted to an unattractive women if her personality was just right, where as I couldn't ever see myself being romantically attracted to another man even if he was really good looking and had just as good of a personality (for more reasons than simply "he has a penis).

That being said, I have been in a relationship with a lesbian before but it didn't work out. She found me really attractive physically but just couldn't find it within her to make that emotional romantic connection.

Off topic slightly though, I wish I was BI. Imagine how exciting life could be if you fancied both sex's. Alas I seem to love women too much =P

It's not a mental choice for me (and probably not for most people). My penis gives the ol' salute when I see boobies. My penis remains at ease when I see a naked dude. Simple as that. For me, sex is an important part of a romantic relationship, and arousal is an important part of sex. Therefore, I'm not homo/bisexual. "Openness" and "versatility" have nothing to do with it.

How come it is why im Hetrosexual?

Because. The entirety of human evolution has revolved around reproducing. Since gays cant reproduce, it is natural to be Hetrosexual.

Im Normal. Therefore, im Hetrosexual.

And to the inevitable troll that will spam my post and/or bother reporting me to a mod (Which is what happens EVERY time i post in a thread like this) Its true.

There is no denying that. Every single race on the planet earth exists with one goal - reproduce. Every single thing a animal does is so that it can reproduce in some way. Humans are Animals and therefore...

Um... Because I've seriously tried both and women have what I want. I am painfully straight but comfortable enough to make jokes otherwise.

I always find this kind of question painfully naive. I do know guys who make me happy, I call them... Friends. My wife is also my friend and I get sex.

Explain the gay animals then? Homosexuality is just as natural. If anything, it could be argued as population control inherent in a species that overproduces. Seriously, look up actual biological studies before making such proclamations.

Because I'm not attracted to males.
It really is that simple.
Perhaps it's not easy for a bisexual to understand how it feels, but heterosexuals just don't want to be in romantic relationships with people of their own gender.

Sexuality isn't a choice.
