To be honest, I hardly ever pay for anything online, apart from Steam games. I also agree with one of the above posters that PayPal are rather unpleasant. I have never had the misfortune of having to deal with them, but I don't see the need for a "money-proxy" that will probably just charge me extra for using their service.

If I pay my money will go 100% to the recipient as well as to all applicable taxes, not to some creepy little middleman.

I also second the opinion that high-quality ZP or even high-quality videos here simply aren't worth the actual hassle of paying. 20$ is hardly much, but I have never, and I will never deal with paypal.
Also, paying to not see the adverts is understandable. The browsing experience is greatly improved without advertisements begging for my attention...
These days, however, I hardly notice them, and actual riddance of them is hardly worth 20$+PP.

I do recall there being contests with the chance to win some sort of swag, if you're a US citizen... but unfortunately for the US, I am not. ;)

I was playing Half-Life 2, for the first time I think. It was the part near the beginning when you are running from the Combine, through city 17. I was running and decided to look behind me and right there like a foot away from me was a combine soldier holding up his stun stick. It caught me so off guard that I jumped out of my seat and one of the speakers on my desk fell off my desk an into my garbage can.
Welcome to the forums :D
Also.. I know what you mean lol, been there done that, Surely you have posted to the wrong topic? :p

OT: I only really use the forums, and read the game reviews, thus it being pointless to pay for something I wouldnt use.

If I am honest, I see it as a complete waste of money

I don't like the idea of a stupid custom title
I live in an area with 1mb of download so HQ is out of the question
Adverts don't bother me that much, if they really did annoy me then there are many ways to get rid of them but I want to contribute in some small way since this is a free site and I have spent a lot of time here
The exclusive groups/forums seem a bit stupid if I am honest, anyone can create a groups or any threads
Plus I think the mods are too harsh here and knowing I could get banned any day means that I would be completely wasting my money

Well, I don't have to worry about gold-diggers right now...I'll put it that way.

I've fallen in love with the Eastwood Airline Tuxedo(that's a guitar)and I'm limiting my spending in all other areas so that I will actually have the money to pick it up someday.

I'm probably going to get suspended/banned for this, but Grilled Cheesus did not deserve to be suspended for that post. All he did was voice his opinion and say that he didn't feel that paying $20 a year was worth it and state that he didn't believe some reviewers were professional. Is saying that getting HQ videos isn't worth $20 a year a suspendable offence? Hell, you all might as well ban me for that, then.

Well, since this is pretty much the first I've heard of it ( :p ) I'm not a member because...I...only just heard of it.

But I also have minimal funds, so yeah.

Because I'm such an awesome person that I deserve entertainment for free.

For me it's more a matter of pride. You may notice my custom title and the fact I am not a member of the publishers club. How did I get my custom title? By being hella-balls-to-the-wall-awesome. That's how. Why would I pay $20 to hide that?

All I watch is ZP, why would I pay 20$ to get rid of a 15 second ad. Also ZP in HD isn't really important to me.

Because if you take part in the Forum enough, it becomes worth it.

First off, no advertisements. Ever. We get a little comic by the talented Shamus Young in the corner, a random Pub Club members motto is posted on the top banner and I don't have to wait for my videos (Tell me folks, hows the Slim Jim ad?)

Bigger avatars, a custom title, some extra ENN stuff, articles on one page and HD videos (And that is a big reason on its own. It makes the daily drop that much sweeter). Its only 20 bucks for the whole year as well. You could make that mowing lawns for a day, an 11 year old could get a paper route and make that in a day. If it was monthly, then I could understand the gripes, but its annually. I could save up a quarter a day and have 20 bucks before the year is out. Heck, if by the end of the year, I'd have enough money to keep my pub club account going for 4 years. Its not expensive, and the lack advertisements alone make it worthwhile in my opinion.

Its moderator sass and he insults most of the community in his post. Flaming and Mod sass are clearly written in the guidelines. You can go read them now if you want, it'll take two seconds considering that they're bolded and in a large font. Not only that, but he brought up previous posts and claimed that the mods are 'uptight' about it. He spent most of his post complaining about his previous suspensions then actually talking about the reason he isn't a Pub Club member.

And relax, why would you get in trouble? Our mods enforce the rules in the guidelines. They're not gonna bring the hammer on you just because you disagree with one thing.

It sounds appealing. I just don't have the money. Simple.

I've just heard that the mods are really strict here, and will ban you if you say anything hinting they might've been in the wrong

1- I watch Zero Punctuation and Extra Credits, neither would be effected much by a higher resolution.

2- It costs more for Publishers Club than it does to host a website on godaddy.com per year. That's not to say The Escapist doesn't pay far far more it's more that I pay that to host sites and to pay almost double doesn't really factor in as an option to me...

Also I really don't have that kind of interest on this site, I enjoy watching the few video series I enjoy(neither is better in HD) and the people here in this community(also can't say would be enhanced by the club), I get what I need without the publishers club.

I guess I'll just have to stay uncool and unpublishers club.

They aren't in the wrong and that is just an unfair stereotype. We do have stricter rules then most other sites, I will admit that, but our mods will not ban you for every little thing. That rule is only in place because we have had occasions were some users believe that another user shouldn't have been banned, often leading to mass threads about the mods making a 'bad call' and insults are quickly thrown. The majority of the moderation team were members of the site like me and you are and I'm friends with quite a few of them.

In this case, they're not in the wrong.
