Your so called benifits can go fuck themselves. HD video? Really, all I watch is ZP, how is blue, yellow and white flash animation improved to a great degree? And Ads? Only the truly moronic and impatient cannot wait an extra 30 seconds. only the foolish get so easily distracted by flashing lights in ads that they pay to remove them. Custom titles? Pretty cool I guess, but no way near worth the asking price.

I say again, go fuck yourself pub club.
LOL. I'm detecting a hint of jealousy perhaps. The truly moronic indeed. Fuck those ads before the videos, they drive me nuts.

I barely notice the ads, don't care about a larger picture/custom title and don't even watch videos any more so there is literally no reason for me to get a membership

I have no need for HD videos, I use adblock chrome so advertisements on any site no longer bother me, and the other features seem somewhat trivial to me.

I love this website, but I don't participate that often in the forums and in events. Maybe if something extra was offered for the publisher's club, I may actually consider getting it.

EDIT: Apparently there are some small discounts for different nerd related websites and free shipping if I ever decide to get a gaming PC. Who knows, if I ever decide to go with some friends to comic con I may just join.

Whilst I'm not against the concept of it (extra features are nice, the Escapist needs money, fair enough. We get we we already do for free, I can't complain), I've never really felt the need to join. Perhaps one day, in the future.

Why would I want to be? I don't mind about the adverts, since I get them on almost every site I visit now anyway, I think HD is a fad, and since I don't even have an HD laptop it makes no sense, and I don't particularly want another forum in which to discuss things. I have quite enough pointless chit-chat on the regular forums to contend with.

None of other benefits that I'm aware of seem worth anything either, why would I want larger avatar images when they just slow down my computer? Why would I want extra badges when I'm not an achievement whore? Why would I want to be able to change my title?

So in short, the Publisher's Club has absolutely nothing to entice me with. I view it in the same category I place 3D and Blu-Ray in. A pointless fad that I'm rather angry people are wasting money on.
Your laptop doesn't do HD? Unless it's similar to the computer from War Games then the chances are that it does. If it's less than 10 years old, it pretty much definitely has a resolution of 1024x720 or more. Also, DVD will inevitably be replaced completely by Bluray or an alternative Hi Def format in the same way VHS and audio tapes were replaced.

HD hardware and content are becoming much cheaper and more widespread, it's hard to find standard definition TVs these days in electronics shops and the number of titles on Bluray (old and new) is increasing every day. More TV stations are becoming available in HD each year yet it's a "fad" which will all disappear as we revert to older technology some day?

I'm not saying everyone needs to go out and spend all their money so everything can be in high definition, if you're happy with DVDs and stuff (they are still the standard for now) then great but it's silly to think it's a fad. Manufacturers are going to stop making DVD players and later film publishers will stop releasing things on DVD.

In response to the OP, there's nothing in the Publisher's Club that I think would benefit me in any real way. I don't really notice the ads that much and my internet is still too slow to load HD video without constantly starting and stopping. I could afford it but I have no real interest.

I've always wondered this since I noticed most of the escapist is not members, and always wondered why. For a whole years membership there not asking for alot of money and just the HD Video's and No Ads make it rather worth it in and of itself.

So I put it to you my Non Pub Club Escapist Comrades! Why are you not a member and what would make you want to be a member?

Edit: Linkie! http://www.escapistmagazine.com/registration/subscribe
Because I don't want to be? It's nowhere near essential and I'd rather save my money, to be honest.

Not jealousy rage. No, this is elitism rage. Because honestly, what do you expect to happen to a community when you ad a premium feature? Do you honestly expect the people who paid money (for as I said the dumbest of things. Seriously, you can't stand an extra 30 seconds? I wait twice as long for half this shit to load, I know how to do shit in the down time, you should too) to act the same as they did before?

Hell, even this thread looks like a 'I pay for shit, I'm better than you' jab. It's incessant and moronic.

Jealous? Fuck no. Pissed off? Fuck yes.
I see what you're saying. I joined the pub club for three reasons only.
1. The exclusive forum, which has turned into a close knit community
2. It was only ten dollars when I joined. It was never worth 20 bucks and I won't join again when it costs that much
3. I felt the need to give back to a site I spent most of my work day at. It was like charity almost.

As for the lack of ads, HD videos, custom titles, bigger avatar, I couldn't care less. There's a reason hardly anyone joined the pub club. I only use this site for forums anyways. The videos are all pretty lame in my opinion.

I'm confused as to what Grilled Chessus said back there that warranted a suspension... he gave a reasonable response to the question posed in the thread and while he wasn't exactly glowing in his praise, he was at least being *mostly* civil - tons better than half the posts I've seen around here.

I am a member. I really didn't see the big deal in doing it. I use this site a lot and would like to see it keep getting bigger and adding more content. If $20 a YEAR is all it takes, then I'm on board. 1.5, maybe 2 hours worth of work a year to help out my fav. website is a small price.

Eh, I hate spending money in a regular fashion just for usage. Same goes for games, really. I'm okay with paying for stuff once, but I don't like games that ask for a monthly subscription fee for example, either. I pay for stuff to get something material back, like a CD, a book, a DVD, something! Which is why I also don't use Steam but only buy hard copies that don't require Steam to activate. Only exception so far is Zeno Clash, the DVD-version of which I had thought wouldn't require Steam. I only learnt afterwards that I was wrong.
