A trend I've noticed lately (and not just here) is that people who like Batman also seem to hold Spider-Man in nearly as high, or higher regard.

its because he's the goddamn batman!!
but in all serousness i think the reson he is such a good superhero is because he one of the more relatable DC charicters hes not an alien like superman he just an normal guy who just happened to train as a ninja that and he is also more of a realistic superhero he has ulterior motive for being batman other than its the right think to do all of this and more make him my second favorite super hero of all time (he'd be number 1 if i wasent such a spiderman fanboy)
Yeah, Batman's reason seems a lot more human. He wants to stop things like the circumstances that took his parent's lives from happening so he fights crime. That's a good reason to be a superhero/vigilante.

Ok, Batman has intellect, but last time I checked, Superman, Spiderman, Iron Man, hell anyone can kick his ass! He just has a few gadgets. Sure he can defeat some criminals, but he doesn't stand a chance against other Superheroes. He is not the best Superhero, and honestly I don't care who is.
Well, Iron Man and Spiderman have never actually fought Batman because of the whole "Other brand of comics" thing so it's hard to say who would win. As for Superman... Well, in a fight without his gadgets Superman would most likely win. If he could use gadgets and resources then he would just use kryptonite on Superman. I do respect your opinion though.

I know right? I'm actually one of those people. Spiderman is my second favorite Superhero. I guess Spidey is just that awesome.

This is the basis of my argument as to why Batman is the best superhero.

Because he gets the job done without needing superpowers.
That does indeed increase his awesome factor.

Very eloquent summary. However, you left out the fact that, unlike some other superheroes I can mention (i.e. just about all of them), Batman doesn't have a cardboard cut-out love interest. Catwoman is a very unique, very developed character in her own right. The relationship between the two fluctuates back and forth between enmity and romance, never quite reaching either. This is very human and very realistic. You touched upon this but never quite said it, so I shall. The overarching reason why Batman is the greatest hero ever is because he is very human. He has all the flaws and scars and weaknesses of a human, how he overcomes them is the hook in his character. It is for this exact reason why I hate Superman, he isn't human, he's essentially a god. I can't relate to or care about the problems of a god anymore than anyone else could or would. That is why Batman is the greatest superhero ever.

Batman is a hero, not a superhero. If it weren't for all of his money and technology he'd be just a regular person, so he's not a superhero because he doesn't have any unique abilities.
Does a superhero need powers? Are they not judged "super" by their actions? Seriously, I'm interested in your opinion on the matter.

Not just Sherlock. I can think of another cave-dwelling, black-costumed, non-powered superhero. If anyone can think of who it is take a shot.

I know right? Superman is pretty much invincible but that also makes him harder to relate to. Batman's humanity makes him better overall.

Well he's better then Superman, I mean seriously Superman doesn't even have a disguise, people in his world are so stupid they can't tell the difference between a person with glasses and the same person without glasses.

Yeah, glasses probably aren't the best idea for concealing an identity.

i dont think the problem here is batman, batman is an awesome superhero, if you consider the fact that hes in a somewhat realistic world, but compared to other superheroes hed get his ass kicked in a sec "superman lets figh..... heat vision TO THE FACE"
I'm gonna stop you right there. It's been proven time and again in the DC comics that Batman can and will hold his own and usually win against any Superhero.
It's actually been a major point of contention with the Justice League that he openly admits to having an arsenal of weapons, gadgets and contingency plans specifically designed to take down each member.

As superheros go I have always preferred Rorschach and The Punisher. There brutal, efficient, and there not afraid to kill.

I like batman but my problem is for all the good things he just doesn't much depth in his combat style "oh no it is a giant petrodon good thing I always keep my bat anti giant petrodon spray around" he then sprays it on the enemy then hits with a batarang, that is why I love spider-man he has always depth of character that batman has and the cool villains superman has with out supers over powered powers, plus his powers are very unique.

Yes, they do; anyone can be a hero by committing a heroic act. For example, firefighters are heroes because they disregard their own safety to save people from burning buildings. However I don't think anyone would call a firefighter a superhero. They don't have any unique abilities, yet they're heroes nonetheless (also they use technology and special equipment to save people).

Same thing would apply in this situation; sure Batman is a hero because he saves people from various dangers, but there's nothing really special about him as a person. He just wears a suit and uses technology for vigilante justice. Would you call everyone with a costume and a grappling hook a superhero?
