Because a game like assasins creed just does not work on keyboard and mouse. There are a lot of games that are better with controllers.

Furthermore up until recently I never had 1000 pounds for gaming. the £165 that the 360 cost me when I got it was FANTASTIC.

I wish I could play games primarily on the PC but I can't afford it. Whenever I've gotten a new PC that could play games (not a dedicated gaming PC admittedly) I've almost always had some sort of compatibility problem and had to play with the graphics turned down and even then with an unacceptable framerate. PC games are a lot more volatile too and prone to crashing more often, at least for me.

I play on consoles because it's cheaper than buying a comparable PC, and I can stick a game in and play it with no issues, I know it's going to work and run smoothly (with the exception of Fallout).

I'll give you an example.

I recently purchased Magika over steam. Before I can play it I have to install something else (Microsoft XNA or something along those lines) Halfway through the install a long winded error message pops up, the installer crashes and a help window with no other information than "Update Windows" appears (guess what: updating windows didnt work). Now on a console, I wouldn't have this problem.

And that is why consoles are my platform of choice.

Wow . . . the amount of deluded, mis-guided myhtological ideals being stouted in this thread is phenomenal.

I'm surprised it hasn't boiled down into a flame war yet. :p

If money is not a problem and you can afford high end hardware..
yeh.. no reason to buy a console except the franchises.
But for gaming im pretty sure that consoles are the best value for money.

Because the PC is extremely fiddley and inaccessible for those gamers who don't possess the technical skills to use it. I find it quite annoying when I buy a game for PC and it tells me that the something-or-other didn't configure properly or that the set-up failed to initialize or that it just feels like being a dick and not working. When I put a game into a console, it installs, and then works. No trouble, no talking to tech support or troubleshooting the increasingly ridiculous issues. Hardcore PC gamers tell me that all of the problems with PC games I've encountered are easily fixable, which is more or less irrelevant. The very fact that they occurred at all makes the PC less appealing considering that consoles provide a platform on which I can play games, and not have to troubleshoot; I can just sit down and play.

Not all of us can afford to keep up to date computers, and I like to know that if I buy a game I will actually be able to play it.

For me its comfort, not having to worry about specs, simplicity and the all around feel of console gaming.

I bought an xbox360 for the sole purpose of being able to play Fable II. Then I got prototype, dead space for it since I had played those on my cousin's '360 so I was more familiar with the controls... then I bought a few more for the '360 just so I could have more games for the damn thing LOL

But I'm mostly a PC gamer. Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Dragon Age... I also prefer FPS on PC since mouse is easier to aim with than a console...

I haven't had a computer that isn't a Mac for years now, so for a while, it was tough to get good games that I could play, and I got used to consoles.

Have you gamed on this console generation, I've had more trouble getting my consoles games to work correctly out of the box than I do PC games. Hell don't get me started on the shoddy PS3 ports.

I don't buy a console because of the controller.
I just hate it. It feels so robotic and un-intuitive. The mouse at least lets me determine the amount of acceleration input, but controllers just make me feel like i'm controlling a robot.

I have, and I've never had any trouble getting PS3 games to work.

There are a lot of misconceptions here I feel I must address. Not that I'm in complete disagreement with every assertion, it's just some are woefully off-base.

Because most people find consoles to be cheaper overall. People can spend $300 on a PS3 or whatever it is on an Xbox and jump right into games like Crysis. ANd you never ever have to upgrade a console. But for you to get a PC like that, you either have to make your own for like, $700-1300(depending on component and where you obtain them) and continually spend more money to upgrade your pc. People buy consoles out of convenience, simply because they're easier to work with, and easier on your wallet.
Again, this whole "PCs are more expensive" thing is ludicrous at best. I'm not going to repeat myself, just read above. As a side note, Crysis 2 is the only "crysis" game on consoles and it's been severely downgraded, in every regard (not just graphically) to even be able to run on today's consoles. So I hardly consider that a defining factor. Also, I spend no more money "upgrading" my rig every 5+ years then you do on replacing, obtaining, and maintaining your own console. So...sort of a moot point as well.

[edit] All of this said, I'm not saying no one has a valid point in choosing console gaming over PC gaming. I have a gaming rig but also own a DS and a 360. (and many more consoles prior) And, I'm on a strict budget. So, please, don't take this as some ramblings from a PC elitist who's decreeing, "Consoles suck!" On the contrary. I love my console gaming. I'm simply pointing out that much of the complaints about why PC gaming is such a hassle are unfounded. It all just comes down to preference.
"Convenience" is the point I was trying to make. How many people actually want to go and search for each upgrade your rig can get and go buy each upgrade and actually install them to said rig. I'm already aware that consoles aren't exactly cheap, and buying the next gen console is probably gonna rack up a nice amount of spent money. Buuut a PC upgrades a lot quicker than new consoles come out. But that's just what I've seen. And I agree with it coming down to preference. And a lot of people "prefer" what's easier to work with. Which just so happens to be a console.
