It is a good point that you can kill kids in deus ex... and that is still M.
Does that Gary Colman like character in Postal 2 count as a kid?
Close enough, you can also use a cheat code to make everyone in the game be Gary Coleman. Then you have to turn the sound off because they all keep screaming "Whatchutalkinbout?" until you silence them with napalm.

Ah, I remember the good ol' days of Fallout and Fallout 2 (y'know, when the series was GOOD) when you could stroll into town, havin' a grand ol' time and just watching the scenery.

Then you pulled out your shotty and blew the fuck out of that little bastard who just stole your stimpak.

Anyone else here gettin the nostalgia?

Meh.

I've never understood the arbitrary child/adult devision.

Nothing I can think of is actually worse when done to a child than it is when done to anyone else, it's just some arbitrary BS.

And I don't really care wether you can kill kids in a game or not. But when you can kill everyone else for no good reason, it seems silly (to me) to have to write extra code just to stop people from doing the same thing to the kids.

GTA 4 not even having any children in it at all probably makes more sense than having 'indestructible' children in a game.

Special treatment... Sigh.

well there are older fallouts for your kid killing needs...i remember a scene in the original fallout where you had to do something in a church...and i ended up killing a priest a few followers and blew up a kid to pieces(bloody mess perk) just to see if kids can be killed...and yes they can in that game

But yeah, we arent allowed to kill kids because its 'wrong'. especially in a game where you can have sex with prostitutes, marry multiple men and women, kill random people and steal stuff
It seems like you're arguing that sexual promiscuity is as evil as infanticide.

How many games does ANYONE remember in which you can kill kids? The only one I recall vaguely, & I might be mistaken, is Carmageddon :S

You could also kill kids in Fallout 2.

As I've said before, it's a situation where censors and the "morality" crowd are becoming more militant and the games industry is unwilling to take a stand.

Think of it this way, Bethesda and Rock Star used to push the envelope with their games and create some truely "M" rated titles. Nowadays Bethesda was freaking about fan-made nudity patches for Oblivion, and Rock Star backed down over things like Manhunt 2 and the "Hot Coffee" incident when it could have (and should have) defended both as being allowed within the context of an M / R rating.

But I digress, there are probably other games in which you could kill kids, but given that it's basically been 2 generations (this kind of started with the PS-2 / X-box era and games like Morrowwind and San Andreas.. even Fallout 2 was a long time ago) it's becoming harder to remember which games, which is a bad sign and exactly what the censors want.

this ..

and Im a parent and have ALWAYS been very maternal, even when I was a child myself..
so in my book those wanting to harm a child be it real or not are still basically dropped to the lowest slime produced on the planet....or are themselves children...and on that level I think it's youthful territorial rivalry perhaps?

Seriously, how come when any open[ish] world game or such like appears with annoying kids [im looking at you fable 2 and fallout 3] why cant you kill them?

im sure the developers dont want us to go out and kill kids in real life, but come on, it is make blieve after all, if we are allowed to blow some random persons head into a million bloody pieces, why cant we do it to kiddies too?
If they did that, PTA groups, and FOX News would lambast them for including that option and say that they glorify child murder.

/thread.

I, um, think i made a thread about kids in Fallout 3 not so long ago, no biggie. But to sum up the thoughts i put down in that thread; it does feel odd that games like fable and fallout 3 should have these restrictions when they're specifically all about freedom. It's not so much that i want to kill kids in a game, but just knowing that the game restricts you i find a bit dissapointing. It seems odd that elderly, animals, teenagers, etc can be killed without the blink of an eye in a game, but if it's kids it is treated completely different. Murder is bad no matter whether they are kids or not.

............I fear the day you have children.
You see, this is the sort of thing that annoys me. Because he feels the choice to kill fictional children in a fictional universe should be available, you're implying that he's going to hurt or kill real children.

Seriously, get a grip. When a game that promises freedom of choice pointedly stops you from doing some things, people have a right to call them out on it.
