Low confidence in girls is partly due to the low confidence in boys. They aren't getting asked out, so they think they're not attractive enough. But neither boys nor girls will let low confidence show, so they both feel inadequate.

Skinny girls who say they are fat are honestly only saying that because GUYS are around. Why? Because we want you to say "You're not fat, you look great" or whatever.
I don't do it personally. (I know I look good)

one day, one of my friends caught me on a bad day and went up to me complaining about how fat they are, after about an hour of saying 'you're not fat' and them saying I was wrong i finally blurted out "OK, YOUR FAT, YOU'RE THE FATTEST GODDAM PERSON I'VE SEEN IN 5 YEARS, SO PUT THE CAKE DOWN FATTY" she ran to the washroom and cried for half an hour, I'm not sure why though, she was the one who insisted that she was fat, i just agreed after an hour of disagreeing... does this make me a bad person?
You're an hero if I ever saw one.

I'm fairly certain it's every woman's desire to weigh less than she did when she was born.

I really think that it's the media. Constantly being shown touched up pictures of models can make people start comparing themselves to other people and are always looking for the negatives.
Pretty much, that's it.

There's a high emphasis placed on skinny/trim bodies in Western Media, 36-24-36 for instance. Girls feel pressured to fall into that body image, leading most young women to develop an eating disorder.

Because you touch yourself at night. Instead of girls, so they think its their fault.

Because the media and pop-culture puts too much emphasis on women looking perfect, skinny, and pretty. Pretty much: It sets expectations that are far too high for women, thus making all of the teenage girls these days incredibly un-confident and self conscious.

To all the girls out there- if I think you're fat, I'll tell you. But I'm generally a nice guy, so I'll still be nice to you.

But you'd have to be queen of the sea cows for me to say something.

Well... Coming from a girl. That's something I'll believe.
I'm pretty sure this is the best answer here.

Sounds to me like you are just being sexist, applying such a shallow stereotype to all girls is just wrong.
I have to agree. I know plenty of girls who don't think they are fat, myself included.

To offer some insight however:

We see from the media that the thinner you are the better you look or so they say at least. Most guys hold to that ideal (notice i said most not all) that thin girls are the only ones worth it. So, girls get into their heads that if they don't look like the models then they are fat.

Me personally, I think I'm too thin but that's just me and cause I've been losing weight like crazy. I use to be very happy with how I looked and how my weight was even though according to the doctor for my height I was "over weight".

Another problem is when the doctor tells you that for your height you're overweight when really you may be like 5 lbs heavier than you theoretically should be. So girls hear that and automatically assume overweight = fat and it doesn't.

Low self esteem comes into effect too. The lower the girls self esteem the fatter they think they are.

Not every woman's. I'd like my 20 lbs back and I'll be happy. Just most women

And I do the same thing to my female friends only I don't let it go on for an hour, I tolerate 5 maybe 10 minutes of it and then start shouting that. And then chastize them when they have to cry about it.

I am a Reel Big Fish fan. One of their songs is entitled "Why Do All Girls Think They're Fat?" and honestly, it really got me thinking. Not being a girl, I started thinking, "Why do all girls think they're fat?"

I am in high school, so I'm not sure how it is in the real world, but almost every girl I know thinks that they're fat. Most of the time, they're not fat at all and they're just saying that. I was also reading that teenage females have the lowest self confidence and the highest percent of people with anorexia are teenage females.

My question is why are teenage girls like that? I want serious discussion here, not "Because you touch yourself at night."

I really think that it's the media. Constantly being shown touched up pictures of models can make people start comparing themselves to other people and are always looking for the negatives. What do you think?
I clicked this because I was going to mention that song. But anyway I think its because they think they always can look better. What they need ask themselfs is do they look good at their current weight. Please don't think I'm a pig but I prefer women who are have little bigger, it usualy helps in certain areas.

EDIT:Besides too skiny is just sick.

I do not know why women have a complex about being fat.

I think it is just the standards imposed on us all from the media, like thin is pretty and you are a girl so you must be pretty and thin.

People also treat you differently based on how you look. I used to be overweight and no guys came calling. Then, I lost 20 kg and now I turn heads in the street. Men can be shallow too you know...

Women`s bodies also have all these places where fat conspires togehter to becomes love handles, big bums, huge thighs e.t.c....it just feels very unattractive. Hey, I am sure that you guys love our love handles, big bums e.t.c. But, it is easy to feel insecure about something you feel you cannot control.

The thing is, even though I am now Uk size 8, down from a UK size 14, when I look in the mirror I still see myself as size 14, it is weird like that.

Girls have a tendancy to be insecure about our looks and bodies. I am sure that guys are insecure about a lot of things too..

Perhaps the important thing is too support each other. Even if it means saying for the 10th time, `no you do not look fat in those jeans`, or `yes, I did just pwn you, but I am sure it was just a fluke`

It could possibly be said that the only thing more delicate than a woman`s self esteem, is a man`s pride

Women go through weight gain cycles. Some more than others.
Guess it all boils down to societys perception of beauty etc etc.

Or if you want to take a different route, if a girl(friend) asks you if you think she's fat, say, "I'd love you if you weighed 1,000 pounds, but you look great"
;)

Seriously though, some girls struggle with being too skinny and want to gain weight. I got too thin after a personal issue in my life and man, I was glad to get some weight back on.

Women too often define how they feel about themselves on how they think (keywords is how they think others see them) perceive them, this is often called Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_dysmorphic_disorder]. Guys are not immune to this. Many a man has forgone family, health and happiness to have bigger muscles. Watch Bigger, Stronger, Faster* the side effects of being American [http://www.biggerstrongerfastermovie.com/] to understand better.

Honestly, the only girls I've known who complain about being fat are in fact extremely skinny and are trying to get someone to reassure them that they aren't fat. If a girl is actually overweight, she is likely not going to draw attention to herself in that way. The reason girls do that is because they live in a country where looking anorexic is considered sexy by the general populace, a stereotype that is advertised constantly.

Do you know how many High-School-aged girls I personally know that allow themselves to be brainwashed by the goddammed media into thinking that they need to starve themselves until they look like they're a survivor of the fucking holocaust? I can't even tell you, because there are just that goddammed many. No, seriously, the last time I tried to count them all I just gave up at 58. Fifty-Fucking-Eight.

Now do you know how many girls I know that don't allow themselves to be brainwashed by the media into thinking that they're cows that need to induce vomiting everytime a fucking morsel of anything that can be even considered food goes anywhere near their mouths? Four. That's right. Just. Four.

Yes, it fucking sucks that these girls are being brainwashed into thinking that if you don't look like an 8-year old from the third-world you're a fucking cow, but it's the truth, call him sexist all you want, but he's right, whoop, no, sorry, he's almost right, 'cause almost all girls think that they're fat. It's a sad truth, but it doesn't mean that you should declare him sexist for pointing it out.

EDIT: Christ, there were only 5 posts when I started typing this out...
