In Malta, the skinny look is in - it has always been in. I'm a size 10 or a size 12, but the popular look is skinny - therefore being a bit plump is taboo.

It's not the media.
The media caters to its audience. The notions of beauty we hold are maintained through the media, not generated by it.
I'm sorry but i could sit here all day typing 'wrong' again and again but it still wouldn't get my point across.
How about instead pointless disagreements you give some evidence of why you think so, preferably in a way that isn't antagonistic or can be perceived as talking down to someone. /mod

Because it's an easy way to get a compliment:
Girl: "Does my bum look big in this?"
Guy: *Thinking* Shit, should I answer this? Is it a trick question? Hell, just tell her she's beautiful, that'll get her off my back...
Guy: "Of course not, you look just perfect!"
Girl: "Awww thanks!"

This is what I think anyway...

I'll just point out that there are those of us who are actually fat, IE me. And nowadays being fat sucks.

Skinny girls who say they are fat are honestly only saying that because GUYS are around. Why? Because we want you to say "You're not fat, you look great" or whatever.
I don't do it personally. (I know I look good)
That is the most fucking genius idea I have ever heard..... but it's soooo evil..

I'm kind of worried for this thread, I was looking down the first page, and I only saw one obvious girl answer.. And I'd say thats a problem, Us men can not tell another man why it happens, BECAUSE WE AIN'T DOIN IT!

Oh btw I like the dave chapelle video, 100 ways to please your man, By A Woman; I hope nobody reads that article.

Because they aren't models. So they're obviously fat. I used to be confused, because as a kid my mom was always working out. Not to lose weight, but just to do it.

Anyways, I think it's just an insecurity many women share. Hell, many guys share this too. It's just self esteem.

They don't.

A lot of them are fishing for compliments.

Thats all it is.

Loving all the "blah blah blah women are awesome at everything, oh and hard done by though, don't you dare forget" I would actually like to see women rule the world for a few hundred years, because you would **** up just as badly as the "men that rule the world" supposedly have.

There are two differences between white and black women. When a white woman asks you "Does my but look big?" you say no. When a black woman asks, you say Hell Yeah!

Cookie for reference.

I don't think I'm fat. Sure I'm not the fittest person. But I'm not overweight.

And I actually know alot of guys who are fanatical about thier looks and body weight. It's not just girls who suffer from this, but I guess that women tend top get more press, which I think is wrong by the way. It's not very fair towards the male populace.

I'd go with the general explanation that it's just media pressure, and so on. But what I fail to understand is why I've never seen men with the same problem. After all, if you look in the media, we see plenty of shirtless guys looking like they have an obsessive compulsive exercise disorder... D:

Well, what with fitness fads and thin people wearing dresses that resemble pressed-paper which has been pressed again.

They may either:
A) Be so insecure about themselves it's bordering on body dysmorphic disorder, or
B) Be fishing for compliments.

Because slightly more than half of all the women in the world are, and voice their disgruntlement aloud, and the the other less-than-half want to fit in, because the fat ones might eat them otherwise.
over half of women in the DEVELOPED WORLD. Anyway i think it's a mixture of hormones and the ludicrous competitiveness a good deal of women have to be prettier than each other. Oh and there are pictures of 'beautiful' stick thin women everywhere these days, and women take these as a set standard of how to look(if only subconsciously).

The media to be honest, and all these models who are size zero and shit supposedly being the most gorgeous women in the world, sends a bad message to girls.
