I've met a lot of americans on these forums who were pretty passionate about soccer.
But, hell, even if you're right, most Europeans dislike American football also, so the door swings both ways.
American Football is, to my knowledge, only liked by Americans, whereas 'soccer' (aka real Football) is liked by a large percentage of countries around the world.

No, we just call it rugby and play it without padding. Also, this isn't a USA and Europe thing, this is a USA and rest of the world thing.

For the record, I'm not particularly interested in fottball of any flavour. But I'm gay.
There is a very big difference between Rugby and our Football.

I dunno, I'm American and I prefer Football (soccer) to Handegg (American Football).
Sir, you have just come up with a new name for that sport.

Americans have money to spend on more expensive sports that's why. Soccer is most popular with countries that can't afford things like shoulder pads and Ice skating rinks.
Or cheerleaders.

Ironic that that extra padding is the reason why people take the piss out of American football.

OT: It's just not as popular there; they don't hate it.

As far as I was made to believe Football or 'soccer' was a well liked sport that a lot of Americans play, they just don't hype it up as much as their own sport... With our sports name...

Honestly, I think you're more likely to run into English people who hate football than Americans, because if we're not particularly excited about it it's no big deal, nobody else wants to talk about it either. If you're English and you don't like football, how do you get away from it?

I will definitely agree, though, between American football and European football, the European variety certainly looks a lot more like a game that ought to be called football.

By hiding in a cave near Moscow - it's the only way I've found that works for me (it's quite a spacious cave as well, good reception)
Or by pretending to like it long enough to drive the conversation away from the topic or escape - knowing the score and the basic play of the game is usually enough

I personally don't hate it. Neither does anyone in my family.

I don't love it, but I don't really love any sports.
Pretty much this, except for the fact that my entire family are rabid, shout-at-the-TV-at-the-top-of-their-lungs fans. I'll watch it, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

A lot of people I talk to say: "its boring to watch but fun to play". It's not like they hate it, its just they don't like watching it.

I think the problem with soccer as a mainstream sport in North America is that we already have so many other pro sports here. Football, basketball, hockey, there just isnt room for very many more pro sports.

its less of a matter of we hate it, its more than most just never got into watching it. a lot of people think its boring...and then go watch baseball which makes NO SENSE....its really just we were never brought up to it...oh, and to fit the stereotypes, its not nearly violent enough

We 'hate' it because everyone else makes such a big deal out of nothing.
And don't you dare fire back with the whole "But what about the Super Bowl," bullshit. They've got their sport with grown men kicking balls and we've got ours.

I'm one of those extremely uncommon types that perceives American football as a fat man's sport. Prima donnas aside, soccer is just flat-out awesome.

We don't hate it. Some of us just don't care for it. I, for one, like the sport. It's much more interesting than baseball. :p

I also get the feeling that more Europeans hate american football [small](or handegg, as I will now call it)[/small] than Americans hate real football.
