i know your gonna throw some games at me such as MW2 (you can use cold blood and ninja) yeah thats useful but theres nowhere to hide and be stealthy, overgrown and wastleland have a bit more grass to be stealthy and you can have some sucess also the prone block can be really annoying because all of the good spots for crawling keep getting that pop up thing, not to mention that the ghuilly suit is only availible and even with the ghuilly suit the rendering of your body stands out from the background

you could also mention BFBC2 which can be played with an element of stealth, it still lacks prone and the spot button is rediculous

i bet your just about to mention hardcore modes, i dont like hardcore because its generally a stalemate between 2 opposing teams of snipers and as stalement suggests it gets stale and boring

i dont see why its difficult for devs to allow places for people to be stealthy (not neccesarily hiding spots just long grass etc), dont block prone and camo which blends to the environment

please be aware the difference between being stealthy and camping or hiding, you may have to hide temporarily but the general purpose is to get behind the enemy and go by the policy of 'if they cant see me they cant shoot me', afterall the element of surprise is more effective than any weapon or gadget

Because most shooter fans are impatient and want blood rivers. Plus doing stealth is too hard, developers prefer doing brown-and-grey FPS games because they are so easy to make and idiots always buy them.

They're more about battle tactics and shooting prowess than stealth I guess. That and mixing genres tends to fail. Hmm...has there ever really been multiplayer stealth games? Apart from the upcoming AC:B.

In Halo 3, playing Team Doubles at higher levels there'd be a lot of...well, not exactly stealth, but sneaking around. It'd be possible to occupy the enemies attention while one of you snuck around and got an assassination in. Matches like that were few and far between, and it was only really when both duos were playing conservatively did it happen. Was a lot of fun though.

Because stealth would be fairly difficult to do in a multiplayer game, let alone balance. Even then, you would have to rely on the opposing team being fairly naive and not rushing straight to anywhere considered "stealthy."

yeah i suppose just catering to their main demographic but given atleast an option to use stealth id totally hunt down those guys who want rivers of blood

Now time to go and play MGS properly.

Impatient 12 year olds make up the majority of the buyers?

Stupid developers.. And their cravings for money..

See: Spy from Team Fortress 2 or Team Fortress Classic.

Of course, there usually isn't a "decent" spy. There is a godly spy, there are bad spies, and there are spies after 20 minutes of dominations (on fire, usually).

So, stealth is very hard to maintain throughout the game, let alone the whole video game life. Eventually, players discover usual hiding spots, constantly flame them, spies discover new spots, wash, rinse and repeat.

it wouldnt work, simply because of how people play games. And there would be little difference between stealth by being hidden in the environment and camping in a window, would just give people more reasons to sit and camp and not play with the run of things

Have you seen the size of maps in most modern first-person shooters? There's nowhere to hide. If you want stealth in your FPS, you have to go down the hardcore road to military simulators like ARMA 2.
exactly my point, i dont see why it would be much more difficult. MW2 and BFBC2 make it possible to use stealth aspects but it just needs alittle more refining, im not talking anything major not like an Arma clone. just a few details and the problems sorted

I beg to differ: I am both a die-hard COD fan and a dedicated Splinter Cell/Hitman player. I can't get enough of the stealth sections in FPSes i think thy're awesome --->(Ghillies in the mist FTW etc). However, I realise that Stealth is hard to implement and balance in FPS Multiplayer. Besides the fact that i have a feeling people would rage about stealth far to much if it was not done properly ('OMG WTF I got killed by some invisible noob') <-----etc

Because if everyone is being stealthy it's hide and seek, with guns and without fun.

So you'd have to make the other team a bunch of assault types, and it's no fun to play against stealthy types, because their hard to find.

So, the only person that would be having fun are the stealthy ones, and that means the others are just not going to bother playing the game, which means the stealthy types all play against each other, which isn't very fun...

And so on and so forth. So, they stick in some stealthy options and hope only a few people use them.

I want to say its a balance issue. If stealth were to powerful no one would do anything else.
My approach to stealth is to move slowly and be more perceptive. I also try to anticipate where people may be coming from and be ready when they pop their head out. I find this extremely effective when everyone else seems to be sprinting from a to b(even without the perks). Sorry, I know you probably weren't looking for tips.

Online shooters dont cater to stealth because it would be incredibly frustrating constantly being killed by people you cant see, i mean, think snipers x10 and you get the idea why its a bad idea.

They had that multiplayer mode in one of the splinter cells with FP mercenaries and TP spy/stealth types, it was an awesome idea but in practice nobody wanted to play as the mercs as they had to be so nerfed to give the stealthy guys a chance.

i agree although is being killed by an invisible noob any worse than being killed by a noobtube, at least it would require skill

Because going up to an enemy and raping their face with your massive shotgun is a lot easier than taking the effort of concealing yourself, sneaking up on an enemy and shoving your massive knife in their ass. It also requires exactly 100% less patience.
