I'm a musical fan, and so are quite a few of my friends, but i've found that very few of my friends who are male actually like musicals. Even though there are some out there that aren't hugely girly (such as Sweeney Todd and Repo! The Genetic Opera)
So I was just wondering why guys don't like musicals.
I have no idea myself.

Personally I am a guy, and I like musicals. Not every musical of course.

I do think though there is a connection between how guys listen to music and their liking/not liking of musicals.

because they often hide really weak story lines with really stupid but catchy songs.

There are of course notable exceptions

Cause it ain't manly enough!

Eh, it's also just personal taste. Personally, I quite like a few musicals, like Chicago. Sweeney Todd was really bad though; the blood was far too tomato-sauce-looking and it was rather... well, it wasn't that good in my opinion.
Which version of Sweeney Todd did you see? 'cos I've seen some fantastic ones that look good

OT: I'm a guy nd love musicals, We will rock you, Sweeney todd, Evita, Across the Universe, and loadsof others

My girlfriend laughs at me cos I watch them a lot lol

Gonna paint yer wagon,
Gonna paint it fine.
Gonna use oil-based paint,
Because the wood is pine.

Ponder-O-sa pine.

Yeah I grew up watching The Sound of Music with my mum so whilst I don't go out of my way to watch them, I hold no ill feelings towards them.

It does get embarrassing though when I choose to say goodbye Von Trapp style.

So long,
Farewell,
Auf wiedersehen adieu.
Adieu,
Adieu,
To you and you and you.

Tum tiddle tumtum tum tum tum...

Ah yes, the movie is pretty good I thought, but I've seen a fantastic version with Jason donovan in which there was no blood at all and it was done really well

Because they've never seen the Evil Dead musical. First three rows have to wear white shirts which get sprayed with fake blood throughout it.

Well I generally dislike the music in most of them, and if I don't like the music there's no point in it, right? When I like the music I'll watch them though :p (love me some JCS :p)

No idea, I hate musicals. Well, except for South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut! It is definitely a musical!

I'm shocked and appalled! sweeney todd happen to be my favorite move/musical (right now, at the very least)... yeah, you're right about the blood (not thick enough) but it didn't put me off... ahhhh well you're entitled to your opinion...

regardless, OT, i like musicals... no idea why other men don't...

It may be because they run around singing and dancing. People just burst into song randomly. I mean, I'm a girl and even I consider that kind of...eh. It's usually quite exaggerated and over the top, and many musicals have some kind of romance subplot. I'm not surprised that most guys don't like them, or pretend not to.
Basically this. I'm not much of a lyrical music fan, so when the entire damned movie is based on.. singing, I just get turned off pretty quickly. I watch a movie for the story, and special effects, not.. people singing at every bloody corner of a scene they can. My personal preference is instrumentals. I like listening to the music itself, not people talking over it. Distracts.

Because if they do, they are judged by the morons of the community and rendered "gay".

Personally (and I'm not afraid to admit this), I love Avenue Q and think it's one of the best things ever.
Nope. Not around here. I don't think I know any men who won't admit that Little shop of horrors is awesome... and thinking back to my high school leaver's ball it was my mates that were singing Greased Lightning the loudest out of everyone.
I'm pretty sure I'm male, having checked many, many times... and I have to say I rather like the Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd.
However, having been forced to sit through mama mia and that other awful one.. (cant remember the name... it has a stupid name like Hair! or Paint! or something.) I can definately say I don't like all musicals. Also I've managed to avoid all of the high schools musicals and made a firm enemy out of Glee seeing as it has ruined a bunch of great songs.
