Why do PC gamers get so much hate

Whenever I try and read any post on these forums it will somehow turn into a hate on PC gamers. They will be called "elitists" and greedy. I don't see what the reason for this is and it has started to almost make me not visit the forums.I know that some PC gamers may be those things but most of them are not. Each gaming group has the wrong perception of the other. As a PC gamer I view Xbox live as a place for a bunch of 11 year olds but I know in reality that is not true. A bunch of my friends are console gamers and they are nothing like the stereotype. It just ticks me off whenever someone views PC gamers as stuck up people with a sense of entitlement. The main reason for this is due to the whole MW2 thing but the matter of the fact is that only a small portion of PC gamers actually were in the boycott. It seems that the only kind of people who get attention are the kind that get bad attention. This being the 11 year old with a mic on Xbox live or the pompous elitist on the PC. So I ask you, don't generalize groups and try and be more tolerant on this issue.

Eh because they are very much stuck in their ways, its not a very open community(at least the gaming part) the tech part is pretty laidback usually.

Console fanboys/somethings get a hard on when they see PC gamers, due to our unique sexiness but they try to hide it by hating us.

Yup yup.

Well, generally maintaining a PC to play modern games can be expensive, which is why a pc gamer can come off as an elitist.

And, according to tons of people, we (pc gamers) get better games, but thats arguable.

And, as a pc gamer who has never played on xbox live...I used to precieve it as that, till i saw a friend play on it, and it's not that bad.

Anyway, Stereotypes are common, and bound to exist within the realm of gaming.

Well it looks like it might simply be self-defence on the part of the PC community... I mean, both you and the OP insulted the PC community...

...and if it's elitist to say "Grow up", then I guess the PC community must be elitist.

Well if you keep reading threads on the site every day you should see. Every day I read posts by asshole PC gamers that refer to console players as 'consoletards' and saying that every multiplatform game is better on PC and that PC controls are always the best and that PC has always been the superior machine and consoles have been a joke in comparison and more and more bullshit that absolutely infuriates me. Not to mention that PC games don't really seem to have some sort of fanboy stereotype. For example a ton of PC gamers always flame many 360 users because of Halo 3 and call them fanboys and say that all 360 gamers are Halo fanboys and yadayadayada.

If you were primarily or exclusively a console gamer reading these forums you would understand because it depends on point of view.

As of now, most of the above people who posted give that sort of vibe.

I play on both the PC and consoles, I'm breaking down barriers dammit! Does this mean I get to be an ambassador?

no. no it doesnt. Well, in all likelihood, someone will say "OH MAH G0D! YOU PLAY BOTH?!?!! NOOB!" or something to that effect, or saying that you need to pick one and dedicate more time to it. which i'm sure you do.

Can I call it? - ok I will...

The above quote is the steroyptical anti-PC gamer console-kiddie.

I'm not trying to insult you good sir, I'm merely trying to point out the irony.

Also - PC controls are better for everything. why? because if you're playing street fighter (which is next to impossible on a keyboard) you simply plug in a controller...

One thing about console I have noticed is that they are geared towards playing with your friends. At school I can always hear people talking about playing together. This is because getting a console is cheaper and easier for the masses because they don't know or want to build there own computer.

PC's are geared towards people who want to have fun with random people and they can develop relationships with. I had one server I played on in TF2 and everyone on it was friends. Every time I went on it I was greeted and it was a blast.

So my point is that xbox's are for the general masses while PC's are for those who want a different experience, and I have found that once people go PC they dont go back. I have converted many a friends to PC gaming but this was after years of influence.

O_O But I've already dedicated 15 years to mostly gaming on the consoles! (But I'm reluctant to play on Xbox LIVE since I have not heard good things about that community, when it comes to online play then I'm definitely a PC gamer in that aspect.)

I don't have a problem with PC gamers, but when PC gamers start claiming that I'm unsophisticaed because I prefer consoles, or that consoles are ruining everything by dumbing down games for everyone, it gets annoying.
I don't know what people were playing on the PC that was so great that they don't have now. I was predominantly a PC gamer until around 2004 and games are far better now.

It makes you a hybrid, not an ambassador.

I have a similar issue; I have windows installed on my Macbook Pro (and i use it for games etc.) but instead of it "being the best of both worlds" and putting me in with PC 'clanboys' and Mac douches, I am instead cast out by both sides... for even trying to distill the purity of each mal-aligned position.

Who cares if we call people who play on consoles Consoletards its just like calling a person who lives in Britain a POM its just what we call them. I use the term consoletard all the time just because I do, not as an insult.

Probably for the same reason that console gamers get so much hate; some bizarre notion of brand loyalty, familiarity with what one uses the most, and the perception that the gamers from the other faction are "elitist assholes".

If PC Gamers vs Console Gamers were a summer blockbuster, this would be the part where one of them says "We're not so different, you and I."

Then they team up to fight tabletop pen & paper gamers.

I suspect it depends on the person, but in general one can probably attribute the hatred to one of the following.

1) Perceived elietist attitude of PC gamers.
2) Envy of features enjoyed by PC gamers
3) Logical extension of general fan-boyism (they aren't of my camp and therefore must be wrong)
