I didn't know the Japanese HAD jazz . . . is there anything besides the language that makes this uniquely Japanese?
Besides sounding upbeat I can't think of anything in the instrument arrangements that make this different from other jazz forms.

I guess the only reason I don't like it is because I'm not a fan on the Japanese language. It's not that I'm racist or anything, I like the people, (except for their inventions :p) but there is something about their language, especialy in music, that just drives me up a tree.
IMO the problem with a lot of Japanese music is that I find a lot of singers are off key very frequently. Well, at least in the stuff I've heard which admittedly is a very small sliver of the wealth of music Japan puts out.

Well, for starters, there are parts where the piano and guitar comp at the same time. It clashes. Badly. Speaking of the guitar, why is he using distortion? In an old-style big band thing like this it should be clean. And with 18 gauge strings. The distortion makes the whole thing sound dirty and slightly off, jazz should be right on. Also the beginning is out of time, though that might be because I'm not used to listening to Japanese. Also it should be with an acoustic piano and upright, acoustic bass. It also has the same problem that a lot of Japanese jazz does, it swings too much. Usually on faster things your swing straightens out a bit, and on slower things it's more exaggerated. Also, it had no dynamics. Also it sounds overly simplistic, more like ska than proper jazz. Which is the major complaint with Japanese jazz (for the most part), it's more ska than jazz.

And why is the guitar player the only one with a solo? No trombone? Saxophone? Piano? Not even a nice vocal solo? She's a good singer, I'd like to hear her improvise.

And the ending kind of made me die inside, it was so cliched.

(You asked what was wrong with it.)

It could be that J-Jazz just doesn't sound right. Also, I find it hard to listen to music that I can't understand the lyrics to. Something about the unlikely but possible even that I'm listening to music about having sex with cats just scares me.

That sounded nice, but I guess some people have a different opinion, which might horrify some people, apparently.....

I have never once heard anyone mention japanese jazz, let alone bash it.And anyone who has watched cowboy bebop (I finally saw it all), could say that it at least sometimes work. It also works with what you posted.

OT:I like folk music, and hippy music.

Ooooo I like that. It's catchy, like a combination of jazz, showtunes and modern rock. (or something like that, i'm no music expert :p) - I guess to be fair not everyone has the same musical tastes. I don't care for most rap or country although I don't think there's anything wrong with either genre really.
