I don't hate the Wii but I wish they would have more (good) games, right now it's just collecting dust as I wait for some games that will continue my interest in it.

Because Nintendo's created a bad console which says "fuck you" to all their fans. but doesn't get punished for it.
Um? What? How is it bad? Why do they deserve to be punished for making a more accessible console? Hardly saying "fuck you" to anything, Nintendo is a company who are out to make money, they care as much about the fans as any company, but making a profit will always take priority. Well done Nintendo for identifying a gap in the market, while continuing to make classics like Mario Galaxy which everyone seems to forget.

Its not so much that I hate the Wii entirely, its more of " Why does the Wii hate me?" Seeing my cousin enjoying his 360 causes me to look back at my own console and sigh. The Wii maybe cute, but it isn't very interesting at the moment.

Xbox envy.

Well, that's just how I feel some of the time. Of course, there are some great games for the Wii, but sadly I haven't bought any of them yet (I got the 'new' Animal Crossing, why? I don't know, must have been infected with some sort of Furry-Fetish that week) save for the Twilight Princess my grandmother bought me for my B-day.

I suppose it is a frustration with the games that come out for the Wii. Yeah, I know Nintendo made the damn thing for every sort of gamer, new and old (leaning to the new) and its my fault for buying the Wii in the first place (it was the thing I could afford -.-) it still bothers me from time to time when I enter a store and see things like Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead for my cousin.

I'm sure there will be plenty of awesome games for Wii.

Maybe.

I honestly think it's because it was something new, with Nintendo taking a damn step forward in how games are played.

I myself having played both a 360 and Wii extensively [and currently own both] find myself constantly having more fun on the Wii, whether it be with friends or alone. Shooters seem a lot more fluid and have a lot more potential that the ones where you have to hold down two or three buttons just to shoot. I see a lot of wasted potential where we have the mechanics to use infra-red aiming yet we fall back to using joysticks [which are godawful for FPS...].

My opinion may only be bias because I also own a PC, and only play the consoles when games like Left 4 Dead start to get boring [i.e.... never.]. The only reason I can see people hating it on forums as they are, is because it isn't for ZOMGHARDCOREGAMERS like the Pseudo-PC Xbox 360 or PS3, even though the latter is debatable.

Whatever they say, until Nintendo starts losing money with this, they will continue doing what they do best; finding an untapped demographic and milking it for all the money in the world. They're a company and they're making a damn lot of money; they can't please everyone, but they've pleased the masses.

I think, regardless of what people say, a lot of them hate the Wii simply because it is kicking the shit out of their favourite console in sales. It's the same for all hyped up, popular products. There are anti-ipod people, anti-halo people and anti-wii people. As long as a product dominates the market, it will always have haters.

I know there are reasons people may not want a Wii, but this is the only explanation I can come up with for the raw hatred that some people seem to have for it.

I can almost hear the nail being hit on the head here. Fanboy rage is a funny thing.

Count the number of good 3rd party games for the wii and you'll realize there are about five, it's even worse than the gamecube in this stage, Nintendo should at least improve the amount of decent games that come out.

And as a consumer I care not for profit but for actual use of THE GODDAMN CONSOLE.
Sam and Max
Boom Blox
the Resident Evil games
Okami
No More Heroes
Manhunt 2
Trauma Center
Scarface
a host of VC and Wiiware games

not all "classics" in the strictest sense of the word, but these and a lot more besides seem to justify the purchase of a console, along with the first-party exclusives everyone knows.

And I don't care for Nintendo's profits either, but Nintendo's canny marketing and good sales have seen the Wii getting consistently good press for gaming in the mainstream media for the first time, well, ever, and that can only be a good thing.

I think the wii doesn't pour blood and sweat testosterone so most "hardcore" gamers think it's not cool. It is my favorite out of all the others because it doesn't have the stupid fratboys go crazy over it or nerdy losers who never seen a real woman want to spend their time with it they have WoW for that
wow easy... no need to get all insulting just because someone prefers the games on their system to yours :p

My GF loves gaming on my 360, as I am sure thousands of girls do, and she's not a frat boy or nerdy loser, and I'm SURE she has seen a real woman... No sure though what that does to your deliberitly narrow and offensive opinion.

Btw, her and my sister also play WoW, which I don't get personally, but there ya go.

Ignorant stereotypes eh? Gotta love 'em.
I was pointing out why people dislike the wii not making any stereotypes about the 360
oh... I am sorry then.

It's just that your post seemed to make out that 'the others' (I assumed you meant the 360 and PS3 by this?) were played by stupid 'hardcore' frat boys and nerdy losers (who should just stick to WoW women?) that were attracted by 'blood' and 'testosterone'.

I apologise for the misunderstanding if this wasnt what you were saying, it just seemed that was what you WERE saying.

Right, I'm off now to play Viva Pinata 2...

The guy who developed gears says wii's are like viruses you buy one and play it for two months and everyone you know gets one too and plays thiers for two months. I agree with him -I played mines for a couple of months and bot hmy best mates got one too.

I dont hate the wii - I think it has inventiveness and ballsness. What I dislike is the nintendo craze i.e. so many people like generic party games that developers target that market instead of creating games with substance and suave.

That and 99% of developers cant develop motion controls for shiz!

No more heroes is a brilliant game. There just needs to be more of that and less "Play more games you can play in real life.... like darts"

Oh no!!! Casual Gaming!!! Duck and Cover!!! <-- the reason for the wii-hate. Peronally i love the wii controls and it is a great entertainer for those annoying little kids (family friends' children). Also, the wii-mote doesn't make me feel like i'm trying to hold a pin in a fist.

third party developers continue to make mainstream games and Nintendo still makes the games that made people like them to begin with, So why do so many people hate the Wii, its current success and feel the need to invalidate its status as a gaming platform.
Because they're absolutist pricks that want nothing but games that'll only cater to their fancies.

I personally don't like the Wii as much, but i respect other ppls preference, even the casual gaming lot.

And I care less on what some 30year old man child thinks about games intended for children and young teenagers...lol

I dislike swinging my arms around to play a game in general. I find the controls cumbersome, especially considering the fact that I'm a lefty.

I love Wii. I'm a 'hardcore' gamer and I own 30+ games for the system. There are loads of good games for it but they're rarely advertised so few people know about them.

Short answer: insecurity

Looooong answer:
The Wii attempts to bring gaming to an untapped audience of "casual" gamers and non-gamers. The gaming culture started as a part of the geek culture. Only geeks played video games. Being generally social outcasts, geeks tended to fear the general masses (after all the world has dejected them in many ways due to their differences). This made them fairly resistant to the mainstream and its possible encroach on their territory. Over time games evolved to encompass non-geeks. The culture still retains a resistant to the main stream though. Many see games as a haven and letting the main stream be part of it would mean that their haven would be gone. If everyone played games then playing games wouldn't be special. The secret group of insiders would be expanded to be everyone and their mothers.

The Wii seeks to do just this by making everyone into gamers. Thus many are afraid that gaming will become too mainstream and watered down into something common. So they attempt to do what they can to stop it in the way gamers do... complaining on the internet.

In the long run gaming is not hurt by the Wii but is instead helped. The gaming culture is incredible resilient to new comers (just look at the connotation of the word Noob). If the culture only always people who are already gamers to be gamers and lets no new blood in then eventual the culture will implode when current gamers become former gamers. The Wii produces a new crop of gamers who will someday become the elitist bastards new generation of gamers. An infusion of new blood is a plus not a minus.

Another argument is that casual games are a more profitable market. (casual games are cheap and you can sell millions of copies to the large audience of casual gamers). Thus, the growth of casual aimed games (like those on the Wii), will divert efforts from making more "hardcore" games that the complain audience likes to play. This idea assumes that the gaming market is a zero sum equation. It isn't. Markets can grow, there is not a set amount of cash to be dispersed, since new companies can spring up and expand the market.

Also, some long time Nintendo fans are disappointing that the Wii does not have a larger focus on creating new editions into their favorite series. Its a disappointing turn of events, but Nintendo is and always has been aimed at the young audience. That audience has grown up and still expects Nintendo to cater to them, but its core market is elsewhere. Sony and Microsoft are catering to this audience and Nintendo is trying to grasp its own audience rather then struggling with the other two.

In addition, some people dislike motion control. Its something new and untested and people always fear (fear turns to hate) new things. They like the old controller and don't want to get acquainted with the new and still buggy motion control idea. (personally I like my controller too and think motion control is a fad, but I'll go with the flow on what turns out winning in the end). Anyone who scoffs at the controls for not being perfect expects too much. Nothing is perfect on its first try and the Wii is the first major try. Its a whole system based on these controls and it was a risk. Its not perfect, since it hasn't had as much time to evolve.

I'm sure that there are more arguments but I can only remember these four at the moment. Also, yes my opinions are in favor of the Wii. If anyone doesn't like it then they can go take a long walk on a short pier. These are still the basic reasons for Wii hate as I see it. [/wall of text]

I used to argue for it against my PS3 and 360 friends up and down, telling of all the magic and wonder that will come of it. Then, after all the cumulative disappointments of supposedly solid titles I revoked my stance.

I still love my DS.
As did I, oh and they are selling First party GC controllers outside of Japan
