I KNEW you would patronize me!

-but yes, that one is there too. Also for you FATTIES who love the xbox controller (I'm joking, can't I make a joke?) Logitec and Gamestop make similiar PS3 cotrollers.

"I like arcade sticks for fighting games! I hate the d-pad and analog stick" - I think the 360 and PS3 both have them available.

Honestly, just go to Fry's or Best Buy (to hell with Gamestop, they will rip you off faster than they would a hangnail) and look at the "accessories" area.

Oh yeah, another thing is that people forget there are more controllers than just the default one.

You get them the same way you get any other controller. Purchasing at your retailer or online.
Yeah, well they're obviously talking about the official Mircrosoft/Dualshock models.

Back when all I had was a PS2 and my buddies had an Xbox, I sucked majorly at their games because I couldn't get used to the controller. When I bought my 360, I realized how much more comfortable the 360 controller was for me. Now I can't stand the Playstation controller. It drives me nuts.

I've never had any problems with the 360 controller, it fits nicely, but the original xbox ones were huge, making them annoying to use. Other than that I prefer the Xbox/360 controllers over The Playstations.

Oddly, I have medium-size hands, not uber-big, and my favorite controller ever was the original Xbox slab o' plastic.

As I've always had a PC, I've never owned an X-box console, but I've played on my fair share. I don't like the original XB joypads, it reminded me of being younger, carrying my Dreamcast console downstairs to use the big TV.

360 pads are much better though. People complained, they listened. It should happen more often! :D

No, you're not. I agree and love the GC controller.
I still use my GC pads and love 'em also. Much better than the PS & XB pads (imo). I don't mind my Wii remotes either. (Nintendo Whore ahoy!)

360 controllers I can cope with tho, as most buttons are more or less the same place as the GC one, but its that bit bigger and the sholders are more "trigger" in shape. PS2 Dualshock however... eh, hate them, I feel my thumbs screaming in pain trying to bend to use the analogue stick while still being able to use the sholder buttons effectively. Why they still have the D-Pad in primary location is beyond me. Nintendo had the analogue as prime with the n64, and MS were smart enough to notice that and do that with their first controller also.

Haha, anyone remember the N64 controller? I don't know how they thought that up
That controller was fantastic and is the father of all the modern controllers out there today. Pay your respects boy. ^.^

It had a horribly designed joystick that went limp and unresponsive after about 200 hours of playing with it, and an L button and D-Pad that were impossible to use.

but I guess it was revelutionary.

You have to admit though, it was quite a monstrosity. How were you supposed to hold the damn thing for Pete's sake!?

That horribly designed joystick was the reason all future consoles had joysticks

I don't hate the 360 controller perse, it feels pretty good overall, though I hate those shoulder bumpers. On the PS controller it's really easy and pretty comfortable to hit both the R1 and R2 buttons together, but I'll be damned if I can ever get the right bumper and right trigger, or even just to smoothly transition between them.

Exactly. The Wavebird is still one of my favorite controllers out there. Nintendo has a track record of making controllers that just feel RIGHT. Anyone who's ever played on the SNES can attest to the immediate feeling of comfort and accessibility it offered. Especially compared to it's cousin, the bulky, awful d-pad having, short on buttons SEGA Genesis controller.

Arcades had them before, I would assume it was a natural progression for controllers and that Nintendo was just the first one to put one on their's.

Though I think there might have been a joystick before, or I' thinking of the knubs for the atari's.

I have a pair of the h00ge ones here, with the B & W buttons at the top right of the controller, and it is hard to use. The rest hard quite convenient though.

I guess people were just unaccustomed to using a large, heavy controller, despite the N64.

I personally really don't like the 360 controller. The d-pad is horrible, we all know that, I don't need to say anything else. But those analog sticks! Apparently I'm the only person that feels that they make me feel like I'm pushing along a large balloon from place to place. They just never seem to feel right. I also wish the face buttons were bigger. The Gamecube controller was perfect in this. The A button, the one you use the most, was the largest and had the other 3 buttons huddled around it. It felt so much better than any the standard diamond that's been customary for most systems since the SNES (the SNES had a nice controller though). The 360 pad also is horrible for tapping buttons quickly, your hand gets cramped playing a WWE game within a couple minutes. Once again, the Gamecube controller had the nice big A button to mash away at. I also think the Gamecube controller fit better in my hands. Also, Nintendo d-pads > all other d-pads.

Oh, and the Wii isn't too bad either. In fact, it's awesome, but it's kind of a separate thing.

That's funny, because I've still got five of them in my living room and they all work fine. The third party controllers dies rather easily but the official Nintendo ones were great. On all the games I've played for it the shoulder buttons were only ever called for frequently by games that used the D-Pad primarily.

There were consoles with joysticks prior, but it was the N64 that popularised them. They existed on earlier consoles but weren't used as they were unneeded on the 2D games
