Why do people hate the Xbox controller?

There were consoles with joysticks prior, but it was the N64 that popularised them. They existed on earlier consoles but weren't used as they were unneeded on the 2D games
Not just popularized. They finally created a console game that REQUIRED it. Mario 64.

I prefer the PS3 one. But I'm not griping about the 360 one.
I actually have very large hands, but the 360 one seems to big, mind you I've been playing Playstation consoles my whole life.

I like the analog placement on the PS3 controller.

The SIXAXIS does seem rather light but I use a DUELSHOCK3 now.

And now the face buttons. I have two things to say about them and they both suport the PS3. On the 360 the face buttons (A,B,X,Y) are dome shaped. I find it two easy for my finger to slip of the A and hit the B as well or vise versa, which, in some games, really screws things up. And two, the face buttons on the PS3 are pressure sensative.

The shape of the top of the analog stick on the 360 just feels weird, caved in like that.

BUT, to me none of it matters when playing a really good game. *goes to happy place where there is no critisism*

Haha, anyone remember the N64 controller? I don't know how they thought that up
That controller was fantastic and is the father of all the modern controllers out there today. Pay your respects boy. ^.^
It had a horribly designed joystick that went limp and unresponsive after about 200 hours of playing with it, and an L button and D-Pad that were impossible to use.

but I guess it was revelutionary.
That horribly designed joystick was the reason all future consoles had joysticks
so?

I admitted that it was revolutionary.

I was just adding to why some people might not care for them. It's pretty stupid to be so blinded by the AMAZING DESIGN of the N64 controller to be unable to see how goofy it seems in retrospect.

Don't you mean the original XBox controller? I've never heard complaints about the 360 one, but maybe that's just Microsoft covering it up with bribes.

I've never used one, but the XBox controller, from what I've heard, was huge. To the point where this 7 foot wrestling guy that XPlay interviewed said it was too big for his hands.

That was the phase one controller which was just a terrible mess. I remember playing Bloodwake (I think that's the name of the game) with it and thinking how god-awful it was. The one we're probably all familiar with is the "Controller S" which was released quietly shortly after the launch of the original X-Box and replaced those old monstrosities with what turned out to be a pretty decent controller. The 360 gamepad has been refined to a point where it feels like it's what they'll keep for awhile. A signature gamepad like Sony's Dualshock. Of course with Nintendo constantly changing the peripheral market, who knows how long they'll keep current controller design anyway.

Yeah, the original controller, which even Microsoft nicknamed "The Hamburger" (seriously, there's even a wallpaper of a guy holding what looks like a Big Mac with a controller for a patty), was freakishly huge, with the buttons placed extremely akwardly. The second-gen controller, was somewhat better, but the 360 is far better than all of them. A fact I think a lot of people didn't notice about the first controller though, was that it was almost a direct copy of Sony's Dreamcast controller. Look at them next to each other, they're almost identical. The 360 Controller is a good fit, not too big, an excellent weight (I like my controller to be kind of heavy, but not too bulky), and I love the way the positioning of the sticks.

I prefer the PS controller only cause I have a large palm with short fingers and when the Xbox came out the controller was a hulking mess. The new Xbox controller is nice but I still prefer the PS controller.

I like it too but I find it harder to reposition my thumbs when one of them starts slipping (usually with the Dualshock I'll use one thumb to hold my direction and reposition my other thumb quickly. I can't do this with the 360 controller, my ONLY gripe with it.)

I don't find that problem with the 360 controller, because it's sticks are concave, whereas the playstation sticks are convex.

on the PS, my fingers slip to the edge, and then I HAVE to reposition them

with the 360, my thumbs can sit right in the little pits and sit there for hours

Why do people on the internet seem to hate the Xbox 360 controller so much, I find it fits naturally to my hand compared to say the PS one, which is fine, though little too small, and I dont like how the R2/L2 buttons press for the PS3 one.
I've honestly heard more people say they prefer the 360 controller. Personally, I like the L/R buttons much more in 360 than PS. Otherwise, I prefer PS out of nostalgia?
I like the Xbox controller over the PS one. It feels more natural. My only problem is that new 360 controller seems like a imposer PS one with the bumper buttons (Right and Left button) reminding me of the shoulder buttons of a PS. Although, I guess they're easier to use then the black and white buttons. Does anyone else think that?

*edit* I love the Wii's numchucks ^^

yes, I do think that.

I don't so much think they're copying PS in any bad way by having them though.

Just to add some spice into this, there are several different 360 controllers. I know of 3, well because i have 3. 1 wireless that has hard plastic, another wireless with a super cheap plastic that came bundled with some thing to make it work for the pc, and the reg. wired cont. All of these feel different to me in both weight and texture so if you here that the 360 cont. is bad just take into account they could have come in contact with a crappy version. and dont let any1 tell you diff. that d pad is bad news all around.

I actually like the original xbox controller. However, I have huge hands, so my opinion is kinda wank I suppose lol.

The 360 controller is just fine, first I've ever heard of any real hatred for it beyond personal preference. I do wish the joystick and d-pad were switched though.

The 360 controller is fab; nice and heavy; solid; feels like you're in control. My favourite since the frankly wondrous N64 controller, for sure. Whenever I pick up my PS3 controller it feels a bit flimsy, somehow weightless in comparison. Plus, let's face it, the PS3 triggers are a design of Lucifer himself.

That's ancient, it was the giant original xbox controllers they complained about.
I don't like the new x-box controllers either. They're clunkily large. Not as stupidly huge as the original, but they're still too big. Too much mass from the bottom to the top and not lengthy enough. It's still very boxish, which is a shame. Every controller ever made has been rectangular in design except for those.

They just don't feel right.

i haven't heard complaints about the 360 controller either. I like it, it is almost as good as that of the gamecube (having a different shape for each button makes up for the not quite so good right analog stick). I haven't tried the ps3 controller, i hated that of the ps2 (way too loose analog sticks). I have yet to come across a recent controller with a decent d-pad, since the snes.

I'm actually fine with the D-pad. What really kills me, literally and figuratively, is the guide button placement, I'm always hitting guide button when I hit the back button to check the scores in online games. I realize that it's probably the best place for it, but still, it bugs me.
